Neighbour has had Virgin Media wire installed on our wall

Yes the awful neighbour I wrote about last week.

I wonder what I can do about it? Firstly because they’re making my lives a living hell and don’t see why I should ignore that they’ve put it there without permission and secondly because if we want to amend/change/upkeep that part of the property we cannot because the wire is there

AIBU to just cut the damn thing off?

Do you have wildlife in your garden? Aw shucks, something has bitten through it.

That could be problematic but I think I will simply call VM at the time and get them to reroute it.
They would be within their rights to refuse to move it. And if they did agree you would have to pay, which could be rather expensive.
That is why you need to find out now, whether they have been given valid authorisation by the current freehold owner of the property.

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 09:09

I’ve just messaged the HO to confirm whether or not she’s given permission

I know about this because of a case where someone wanted to build an extension that was blocked by an overhead wire. They had to pay thousands to get it rerouted around their property.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/06/2018 10:06

How long have you lived in your housing association house?
Also if you have a wall I doubt you have a dropped kerb so no driveway will be possible.

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 10:25

glad this is my worry

I’ve been here 6 years (its council not HA)

OP posts:
CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 10:25

My

A driveway is absolutely possible. There is no kerb to drop

OP posts:
MyDcAreMarvel · 04/06/2018 10:33

Sorry read HO as HA, you should’ve gone with the drive then.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/06/2018 10:33

Ahh should be fine I meant.

Frequency · 04/06/2018 10:46

Don't cut it. It belongs to Virgin not you or your neighbours. I had issues connecting my Virgin internet when I moved in, despite Virgin insisting the house was already connected. When they came out the discovered the previous tenant had cut the wire going from his house to under the street and stuffed it back into the little hole in the road, causing thousands of pounds of damage to the cables under the street. Virgin were furious and are currently taking the matter further.

It might on your property but it is not yours to cut. Leave it be and contact Virgin.

KinkyAfro · 04/06/2018 11:14

I love the posters telling OP it's not her wall, she won't have a dropped kerb etc. I'm sure OP knows better than randoms on the internet!

SoupDragon · 04/06/2018 11:38

It’s not her wall until she buys the property though.

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 19:19

Yes it is my wall. You don’t know how council properties work. The wall is my responsibility

OP posts:
BoneyBackJefferson · 04/06/2018 19:20

CantankerousCamel

Do you actually know that they haven't given permission as in :-
Have you spoken to somebody at the council?

Otherwise its just an assumption.

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/06/2018 19:27

It’s bit your wall you do not own it. If you hire a car you have a responsibility to maintain it and not damage it, but it’s not your car!

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 19:28

I emailed the council yesterday.

I know they haven’t got permission as the council wouldn’t give permission for something to be installed on my wall.

Cutty curry cut cut! ✂️

MyDcAreMarvel · 04/06/2018 19:31

It is not your wall

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 19:41

Yes, it is my wall. If it wasn’t my wall I wouldn’t be able to knock it down if I wanted, I wouldn’t be the one responsible for it’s maintenance

I think people are just clueless about social housing

OP posts:
NoIsACompleteAnswerSometimes · 04/06/2018 19:45

It might be better to ask virgin/ council etc about it now, rather than leave it. They might say that you should have spoken about it at the time, and not questioning it might be seen as accepting the situation?

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 19:52

Yes, I’m going to get clear with the council then give Virgin 7 days to move it

OP posts:
Alabasterangel6 · 04/06/2018 19:58

Hello. I can help you OP. I’m going to message you now....

dancingthroughthedark · 04/06/2018 20:13

Do you not need permission from the HA to do major works like knocking down walls?

CantankerousCamel · 04/06/2018 20:15

dancing you need to let them know, but not if you’re replacing like for like. So if I wanted to change the shit concrete wall for a nice brick one, I can do that without permission.
