Neighbour has had Virgin Media wire installed on our wall

Yes the awful neighbour I wrote about last week.

I wonder what I can do about it? Firstly because they’re making my lives a living hell and don’t see why I should ignore that they’ve put it there without permission and secondly because if we want to amend/change/upkeep that part of the property we cannot because the wire is there

AIBU to just cut the damn thing off?

Agree you should contact Virgin Media directly.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:11

Teas yes this is kind of my thoughts

I cut it, paint the wall and feign ignorance ‘we had no idea why it was there assumed it was an old wire’ etc

The number for VM is 150, you will be passed to correct dept. but I've found them quite helpful. I think it's free call but don't take my word for that.

unfortunateevents · 02/06/2018 17:17

OP,is this the same neighbour as last week? The one who is a carer for a special needs person who spends all day swearing? Or is this a different neighbour? I think this one has children so I am assuming the carer is a different neighbour? You seem to have awful neighbours all round and yet are determined to stay!

e1y1 · 02/06/2018 17:20

Call Virgin media call centre, speak to adviser, if they don’t help, escalate to manager, complaints etc.

Also shame them on social media (Twitter) always guarantees a fast response as its public then.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 02/06/2018 17:24

Do call Virgin Media. They will have to send someone out to remedy it. Yuu obviously didn't sign any Wayleave form for it... Then again, if you don't own the house. maybe someone else did... council? Landlord?

WantingMuchMore · 02/06/2018 17:25

Is your neighbour also a council tenant? Most tenancies require you to seek permission for installations such as these and whilst you may be responsible for the wall - it's still the council's asset until you purchase the property so if they gave your neighbours permission, you might find that included the wire on their wall!

LeggyLinda · 02/06/2018 17:29

0700 052 00800

Don’t bother with their home customer number. Speak to them on business terms. You may even get through quicker usiy”no to 0870” website.

StaplesCorner · 02/06/2018 17:30

Camel can we get a link to your previous thread, so we can read it whilst you accidentally cut things? Wink

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:30

We are buying the house in January so I suppose this will all come out then

OP posts:
CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:31

I don’t know how to link it sorry! I’ve started very few threads though

OP posts:
LeggyLinda · 02/06/2018 17:33

Oh. It’s rented. Sorry I didn’t read properly.
Just cut it.

GladAllOver · 02/06/2018 17:37

That number only works on a VM phone line, which the OP obviously hasn't got.

foreststew · 02/06/2018 17:37

Unfortunateevents - if it is that same poster, I wouldn't be staying!

foreststew · 02/06/2018 17:38

It works from a mobile phone. I don't have a VM phone line and I spoke to them just last week.

Vitalogy · 02/06/2018 17:40

I've just had a look at your other thread:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3264440-To-believe-there-is-nothing-I-can-do-to-change-situation-with-neighbour

As posters advised on there. I wouldn't think of buying until the neighbours are gone. If selling on, you have to declare any neighbour trouble.

SmashedMug · 02/06/2018 17:40

I agree with wanting. The council will have given them permission.

Knittedfairies · 02/06/2018 17:44

Before you get snipping with the scissors it might be wise to give the Council a call..

Sweetpea55 · 02/06/2018 17:46

Virgin Media came and installed all the stuff for us a couple of years ago.
NDN complained to them because the tiny brown box was on part of his drive wall and the engineer had chipped a brick.
VM came out and moved the box and repaired his brick.
So maybe complain straight the VM

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:48

Smashed there is absolutely no way the council will have given them permission to put a wire into my wall. It’s my responsibility the wall, I have to be able to maintain it. The council would be taking on responsibility of maintaining it if they’d given permission for this. Looking online VM have form for not getting permission to do this.

I will wait til we buy and cut the fucker —and really enjoy it —

OP posts:
somewhereitiswinetime · 02/06/2018 17:51

When vm did our install the cable had to go under our neighbours slab and down our shared drive to reach our property. Neighbour had to sign a form agreeing to this - which clearly you have not been asked to do so definitely call them out on it!

LavenderDoll · 02/06/2018 17:52

I would call Virgin and complain

Are you sure you want to buy the house. Problem neighbours can massively affect your health

SmashedMug · 02/06/2018 17:53

I always thought external walls were the responsibility of the landlord (or council/HA). How come you're responsible for it with yours? Making me paranoid about my own now 😂

katseyes7 · 02/06/2018 17:55

l wouldn't cut it, or otherwise disable it - it's technically criminal damage. As someone else suggested, l'd contact VM on social media (twitter always works for me) outlining the circumstances, and ask them to re-site it.

CantankerousCamel · 02/06/2018 17:58

Smashed no idea, just how it is here. Otherwise they would trim my hedge
