re this woman in dentist's waiting room

I was waiting in the dentist's waiting room yesterday to have a rather complicated dental procedure. I was a bit nervous and was trying to relax, think of something else, the room was nice and quiet with some easy music playing and another woman sitting there reading a magazine.

Then another patient came in talking loudly into her phone and continued on for the next ten minutes yammering to her house mate about how much some new curtains cost, she could transfer money into house mate's account, don't forget they also had to settle up for the wine glasses they bought next week and so on and so on.

AIBU to think that in a doctor or dentist's waiting room people should be reasonably quiet and not talking loudly into their phones?

Yanbu. People moan about children making noise well I can't stand adults making too much noise.

I work in a dentist surgery and it’s the bane of our lives
So rude

We have signs saying ‘no phones’ but people ignore them
On one occasion I went to fetch at patient in to my surgery only to be ‘shusshed’ by said patient as she was chatting loudly on her phone
It did not go down well

Sounds like she gave you something else to think about.

Heather I assume you mean calls by "no phones"? I am sat on my phone usually but it's been on silent for years and I don't make calls, just text Blush

Zibbidoo her murder Grin

I think she helped you "think of something else" so you should have thanked her. 😁😁😁

YANBU she was selfish and I'll never understand why people think they are so important that they shouldn't consider others

Zibbidoo her murder

Whatever works! Grin

We had this once in a GP's waiting room. The woman stood up and turned her back on us all, as if she thought that would mean we couldn't hear her! We were all looking at each other in disbelief.
When she'd finally been called into the surgery, an elderly man who'd been waiting suggested "Now shall I tell everyone about my operation?" Grin

In a quiet but crowded waiting room once we all had to listen as a man spoke loudly on his phone about his father's funeral. "My sister hasn't seen the body yet, can she come down tomorrow?" He was entirely oblivious to everyone else and how crass he was being in not delaying that call until he was somewhere private.

Glad it wasn't just me. I thought maybe I was being grumpy due to nerves.

Sneaky gremlins
Texting is ok in the waiting room
You’re allowed to have your phone on you - it’s true that some people do need their phone near them for emergencies that’s fine-
But when we call you in the expectation is that you put your phone on silent
Very few things are so important that they can’t wait for 30 mins or so

Not long back I had a man who’s 20 min appointment was 8.40. He was outside chatting away until 8.55!

i didn’t see him
