That's it really.. not sure if it bothers me. It's not what the trip is for.. but not very romantic at the same time

Just book it. I've stayed in the RLD a couple of times. Legal prostitution is not limited to the red light district so you will see this across Amsterdam wherever you stay, RLD just has more in a certain area.

It's a nice city to walk round so you'll be walking out of your hotel and out of the red light district within 10 minutes!

If it's Amsterdam then book it! The prostitution is not confined to the district at all, you will see red lights in a lot of that very central area not just what is defined as the red light district on the map.

You can be walking along looking at the architecture and you get an eyefull. You can't avoid seeing it unless you don't visit those cebtral canals, which are the oldest and most beautiful.

However, if it were me I would look for a hotel in the Jordaan area which is the nicest part of Amsterdam in my opinion. You don't have to be slap bang in the centre.
