I'm calorie counting to lose weight and generally managing fine except that I feel hungry all the time until I've had my evening meal, and it's eroding my willpower!

I think I need better low calorie snacks to fill me up - does anyone have any suggestions for something satisfying and filling that's not more than about 120 calories?

Thank you!

Quark with a little bit of sweetener and loads of frozen berries (defrosted).

halfwitpicker · 30/05/2018 20:58

Bit of an odd one but cold baked /boiled potatoes is also one of my faves

Titty-foods all sound things I like. Thanks for sharing.

Think I'll look ok into the blood sugar diet. My husbands mentioned it being good too Smile

TheShapeOfEwe · 30/05/2018 21:01

Thank you so much for the helpful suggestions! I'll be snacking like a king on these!

And thank you especially WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam for such an eloquent response to that unhelpful lecture 😘

Little graze packs are good. I find they keep me going

Pinkroses18 · 30/05/2018 21:24

I went on the blood sugar diet and thought I’d starve on 800 cals a day. I was so wrong! Unfortunately, I got back on the carbs again and eat loads of calories and still feel very hungry. Sugar stimulates your appetite. Going back on the low carb / 800 cals diet - it’s the only thing that’s ever worked for me!

TittyGolightly · 30/05/2018 21:25

Because science. ;)

Whatshallidonowpeople · 30/05/2018 21:49

I'm laughing a lot at some of your blatant attempts to sabotage op. Cheese sticks lol

lljkk · 30/05/2018 22:03

Titty: you should post your curry recipe.

I've done some 800 kcal days.
Pretty much the exact same foods each time, either chicken or tofu for main protein. And milk in tea. Huge portions of steamed savory veg. Few other things.
The least difficult day was a tofu day, almost an 'easy' day, so will try that again.

Once I went to bed struggling to stop thinking about food (that was the hardest evening, although fine in the morning.. such a pleasure next day, could cry at being able to eat a small banana). Another 800 kcal day I kept drooling, was very annoying. I can put food out of my mind but I don't know how to stop the drooling.

If I ate obvious fatty food on 800 kcal days, the other portions would become miniscule, that wouldn't make anything easier.

TittyGolightly · 30/05/2018 22:11

Curry recipe.

Should say cauli rice, not coconut.

Yes to Quorn Scotch eggs - 40 cals each. As are M&S stuffed vine leaves....

RachelTeeth · 30/05/2018 22:13

I ‘snack’ because my body doesn’t do well on 3 full meals a day, it upsets my stomach and then I’m starving an hour later, so grazing is better for my gut and blood sugar.
(Vegetarian+ibs, so I can’t eat certain stuff)
-Raw carrots are filling
-Mange tout/sugar snap peas
-An apple eaten at the same time as a baby bel-sweet and salty
-French Fries crisps are 70calories and nice, but not so nice that you want 6more bags. Lidl do their own version of them, and monster munch which are 90calories
-dairylea dunkers 118 calories
-cucumber and cream cheese/cottage cheese on ryvita
-make your own airpopped popcorn and put salt/paprika/grated Parmesan on it

TheShapeOfEwe · 30/05/2018 22:16

@RachelTeeth I'm a veggie with IBS too! It can be really difficult, can't it? I'm the same about meals - a normal portion can really cause me issues. I'm much better on 3 small meals and couple of snacks than 3 bigger meals. Thank you for the suggestions!

I'm a veggie with IBS

Nothing like a drip feed....... 🙄

RachelTeeth · 30/05/2018 22:22

titty it would just eliminate the meat aspects of people’s suggestions, every IBS is different, although I think I can safely say beans and brocolli/cauliflower is grim for all of us.
Like, I can’t eat liquid food-no soup, smoothies, chocolate, nothing with a skin, no big portions or greasy or spicy food, etc. Well I could, but would suffer.
I’d love to have a big breakfast and normal lunch etc but my body goes mental if I dare to try, my ‘safe’ foods are built on hours of pain.

Grasias · 30/05/2018 22:25

GinUser I'm also 60 and never snack, I grew up eating 3 meals a day and just drinks in between. It does mean I struggle if meals are not at regular times but I have never gained weight or been on a diet. I agree with the idea that you need to learn to accept bring properly hungry. I think when you have grown up being used to snacking you lose the ability to distinguish between hunger and thirst.

Katedotness1963 · 30/05/2018 22:27

Green tea with lemon kills my appetite.
Crispbread with a small slice of ham torn up over it and topped with sliced cherry tomato, but then I add salt...
Vegetable sticks
Fat free jelly
Red pepper slices, they taste sweet to me.
A small apple sliced and then some tiny cubes of cheddar.
Watermelon
Raspberries or strawberries.
Sugar free ice lollies
