Oh God. I'm heavily pregnant and due to go in for an induction this Friday. I've just spent a good solid 3 days of my mat leave prepping meals and putting them in the freezer to try and make post baby life a bit easier. I made 59 portions of food and was really pleased that we'd be set for a good few weeks.

And tonight I discover that my stupid idiot husband has switched the freezer off since Thursday afternoon and all the meals are ruined. All of them.

AIBU to want to kill him. I'm soooooo furious.

aaargh. Are you sure none are salvageable?

Musicalstatues · 26/05/2018 18:13

Tell him he’d better get cooking!

frasier · 26/05/2018 18:13

Why the hell did he do that?

Imaystillbedrunk · 26/05/2018 18:13

Has the door been shut since then? You may be OK

Snipples · 26/05/2018 18:14

I'm just concerned it's been too long since it's been switched off? Maybe it's a bit safer as it's all cooked anyway? Some of it is still really cold and frosted.

I was too angry to even look through it. DH reckons it's fine but I suspect he's trying to avoid me plotting his slow painful death!

Who turns a freezer off? Pillock!

MissMary0fSweden · 26/05/2018 18:15

59 portions?! Do you live in a branch of Iceland?

Aww that's crap. Does house insurance cover this sort of thing maybe?

PanPanPanPing · 26/05/2018 18:16

What on earth possessed him to do that? I don't blame you for being furious - I think I'd be raging!

Get him - and I mean him, not you - to order some nice ready meals from Cook www.cookfood.net.

And, MrSnipples turn that bloody freezer back on, you fool.

tarheelbaby · 26/05/2018 18:16

all post-baby meals are take-aways on him then Grin and in between times he can whip up anything else you fancy.

I stored up a few frozen portions myself so I feel your pain.

BrazzleDazzleDay · 26/05/2018 18:16

He is an utter dick!!!

50shadesofgreyismylaundry · 26/05/2018 18:16

His slow, painful death will come about from having to eat all those foosty meals. No need to plot. Grin

Ruffian · 26/05/2018 18:16

Why oh why?? I'd be Angry Angry Shock after all that prep.

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/05/2018 18:16

How many times has the freezer door been opened since Thursday? If it was full of frozen food when he switched it off, and hasn't been opened much, then a lot of it will be salvageable. If he switched off deliberately because it was empty, then obviously you have a problem. Looks like he's doing a lot of cooking on Sunday (and possibly watching a lot of how-to cookery videos too)

VimFuego101 · 26/05/2018 18:17

I'd make him eat them to test them... why on earth did he switch it off?

MereDintofPandiculation · 26/05/2018 18:17

If things are still frozen, then there isn't a problem with them. It's the thawed out ones you need to think about.

DramaAlpaca · 26/05/2018 18:18

I think if your freezer was full & everything is still cold & frosted you should be fine. It should be OK for around 24 hours but can be longer if the freezer is full & the door hasn't been opened.

xyzandabc · 26/05/2018 18:18

If the doors been shut, and they were properly frozen when it was turned off, most of them will be ok.

If some were only partially frozen when it was turned off (as they hadn't been in long enough) then probably not so good.

The ones that still feel solid and frozen, I'd stick them back in, they'll be fine.

Snipples · 26/05/2018 18:18

We bought a chest freezer purely for this reason and put it in the study out of the way. He thought he was switching the computer off only. He didn't know the freezer was plugged into the extension cable. Bloody twat.

I'm just so annoyed. It took me ages to make all that. The door has been closed the whole time pretty much so maybe it's ok?? Really hope it's not all a complete waste.

PotteringAlong · 26/05/2018 18:18

I agree with everyone else, lots will be salvageable.

SpaSushi · 26/05/2018 18:19

I did that, it did make life easier.

If they are still hard to touch you're ok- but you need to check every single one. Anything with rice in it that is not rock solid should be binned - rice is notorious for food poisoning and that's the Last thing you need is food poisoning with new baby.

If they are not good and are binned id expect him to sort it out through cooking or buying at his expense and time.

gamerchick · 26/05/2018 18:19

Why did he turn it off Confused what a nana. If they're still cold and frosted they should be fine to eat now but you wont be able to refreeze them.

Grenoble124 · 26/05/2018 18:20

Oh no. I did this too and had c 70 meals. I would have been devastated.

I wouldn't risk it I don't think.

Snipples · 26/05/2018 18:20

Totally making him try everything first. And then he can have the shits and not me. Serves him right!!

OP posts:
NotAnotherUserName5 · 26/05/2018 18:20

Well I hope he can cook, because he's got some serious making up to do!
Good luck Friday Smile

gamerchick · 26/05/2018 18:21

As a side note you're not supposed to plug fridges and freezers into an extension cable. They should be plugged straight into the wall.
