So not quite finished and my first go of making/decorating a large cake. I'm proud of it and know the little boy it's for is going to love it. Can you tell what it will be?

A pie chart?

QuestionableMouse · 26/05/2018 17:34

Hint: it's an animal (or will be when finished)

Looks great so far, well done

QuestionableMouse · 26/05/2018 17:38

Such a range of answers! Thank you, I'm chuffed with it especially as my piping skills are super rusty!

Are you using a bag or syringe? I once madw the mistake of piping a bloody spiderman cake and thought that my hands were broken by the end.

nervousnails · 26/05/2018 17:41

A cow?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 26/05/2018 17:41

Got to be a penguin.
Post another pic when it's done.

ScreamingValenta · 26/05/2018 17:43

I'm guessing a sheep

QuestionableMouse · 26/05/2018 17:49

Gah posted too soon sorry. It will be a sheep. Used a piping bag and yes, my wrist is now killing!

Mollie85 · 26/05/2018 17:57

Although you’ve done most of the piping by now, a tip from me would be to dip the metal tip of the piping bag into some hot water if it’s ever difficult to use or your buttercream has gone hard Grin fab skills op

QuestionableMouse · 26/05/2018 18:03

Thank you! Buttercream was pretty soft but I'll remember that.

Now I just have to make ears and pipe some kind of face.

My enthusiasm for decorating has increased since finding you can get little felt tip pen things for drawing on icing. Now I don't have to do that thing of dividing my batch of icing into separate bits to be coloured differently, then finding I've run out of one of the colours and have to make a new batch. And gold highlights improve all sorts of things.

QuestionableMouse · 26/05/2018 22:26

Thanks. I saw those but I don't think they'd work for this because it's buttercream not fondant.

Mollie85 · 27/05/2018 08:39

Are you ready to show the finished article, OP? Grin

QuestionableMouse · 27/05/2018 10:12

Not quite, heading to the shops to pick up the last few bits.

It looks lovely already. Well done!

GalwayWayfarer · 27/05/2018 10:37

Gorgeous!! Well done OP! And buttercream so much nicer than horrible sugarpaste - it looks delicious!

QuestionableMouse · 27/05/2018 11:31

I may have sampled the buttercream and yes, it's lovely. Lots of proper vanilla yum. I was going to use fondant but it's so tasteless.

QuestionableMouse · 27/05/2018 16:06

So it's done. I think it's a bit less than perfect but I'm still happy with it, especially for a first try. I'm not sure about the eyes and might redo them though.

That is beautiful, very well done indeed. However I would not have it teetering on the edge of the bench, if it fell I would cry :(

QuestionableMouse · 27/05/2018 16:43

Oh wow thank you. It's now safely in its box and back in the fridge. (With its face removed so nothing sweats)
