...that hairdressers/barbers should wash tools in between customers?

I’m taking about things in contact with skin, like clipper attachments. I’m sure that barbers and hairdressers used to do this, but I’ve noticed that they don’t seem to bother anymore. Why doesn’t anyone seem to care about this? Do people not care about the risk of sharing skin infections? Confused

Weird

everywhere I have been wash them between customers. Strange that yours appear not too

Bookaboo · 26/05/2018 10:37

Have you seen them actually wash or sterilise the equipment though? Rather than just brushing it off and shoving it back in a drawer?

No, but I do see them grab them Out of the wash thingy, dry them off, then do my hair

MrsHathaway · 26/05/2018 10:47

I can't think what ours do with clipper attachments but they have things like combs in a vase-sized tank(?) of blue liquid with BARBICIDE on the side. They remove them from there on to a small towel on the side and work from there.

Tbh for myself I don't care as my hair is so long no blade comes within a foot of my scalp.

Soubriquet · 26/05/2018 10:49

Ours get brand new brushes between customers and will dettol all combs and scissors too

Bookaboo · 26/05/2018 13:19

I’m not so bothered for me, as nothing really touches my scalp. More bothered for DS.
How can I check with the barbers without seeming like a mad woman or offending them?

My barber has some kind of sterilising wipe that he uses between doing the hair of the bloke in front of me and mine.

londonrach · 26/05/2018 13:25

Everywhere ive gone to washes between

This never happened in the salon I worked in. Stylists have their own scissors, combs, clips etc, which don't leave their side. Brushes get shoved in a drawer. Penny pinching bastards even reused uneaten biscuits for the next client. And they were raking it in at £150 for cut and colour on short hair.
The only things that got washed were the bowls for hair colours. And we had to collect all the leftover dye from the bowls to show the boss so she could bollock people for mixing too much.

UnicornRainbowColours · 26/05/2018 13:40

They do, every hairdresser has apprentices and they are always washing and sweeping between hair washes.

Soubriquet · 26/05/2018 17:11

Yeah well morning considering my salon charges £50 for a cut and colour I would expect star treatment Grin

MorningsEleven · 26/05/2018 20:36

Soubriquet

I'm being ripped off! I pay £60 😁

Soubriquet · 26/05/2018 20:47

Just realised I put cut and colour Blush

Cut and blow dry is £50

Cut and colour is £120

missmouse101 · 26/05/2018 20:50

I think this about the foot file thing they use during a pedicure. I’m sure it isn’t cleaned between clients Confused Yuk!

Bookaboo · 03/06/2018 10:21

So I thought I’d give the barbers a chance...
The clipper attachment they were using was not cleaned in any way between customers and what’s more they were using the same brush on everyone’s neck and faces to sweep away little hairs .

That’s it, I’m going to learn how to cut hair and I’m never going to the barbers again!
