Just that really. A friend IRL and FB is asking for donations to a charity for her birthday. I wouldn't normally giver her a present, so why do I feel bad about not giving to this charity? (still not going to , though)

God no, yanbu. I never give to these. It doesn’t look as if anyone else does either - they never raise much (or maybe it’s just that my friends are all tight with money/skint...)

I got one of these the other day. I’m ignoring it, wouldn’t buy a present so nothing to substitute.

YANBU. I guess you could donate £2 in lieu of a card, but no need to make a present-sized donation if you wouldn't normally give a gift.

I had this come up just before my own birthday - I must admit I didn't quite realise what it was at first, it's only because I'd heard it mentioned on MN before that I realised what it must be and avoided it.
I wonder if people set it up without realising.
