So fucking fed up with cooking - 28 years and 8,000+ meals!

Just that really. DH and I for supper tonight as DD out. Thinking pork chops with some kind of mushroom sauce. Discovered there are no chops in freezer. Can't be arsed to drive 20 minutes to supermarket just for a couple of pork chops, but what else should I do ....? Out of eggs, don't fancy chicken, had lamb night before last ...

Whilst sitting here and basically avoiding doing anything about it, I have worked out that I've probably cooked upward of 8,500 meals since DH and I have been together - probably more. That's based on eating out or him cooking at least once a week.

I've always done the lion's share of the cooking as DH works v long hours, so if he did it we'd be eating at 9 most nights.

Does ANYONE still love cooking after so long? (Mary Berry, you are not invited to reply.)

God no, I remember when I had a fussy weaning baby and a fussy toddler and a husband and was putting together 9 meals a day. Spoiled me forever.

Now it's just him and me I have discovered that the sky will not fall in if we have egg bacon and chips for supper more than once a week.

Mmmmdanone · 25/05/2018 16:59

I get so bored with planning what everyone eats! Going to McDonald's tonight to give me a break.

franktheskank · 25/05/2018 17:09

I adore cooking and cook proper meals three times a day but even I get annoyed and bored by it every now and again.

When that happens Dh cooks or we eat out, or just have a cheese board! Grin

BrownTurkey · 25/05/2018 17:13

I just cook the same few things I like best ALL the time. Definitely tell your husband the number and go out for an impromtu tea.

Babyroobs · 25/05/2018 17:14

I'd get a take away or eat out.

possumgoddess · 25/05/2018 17:17

Cheese on toast would do me. Yummy.

Goldmonday · 25/05/2018 17:19

Am I the only one who literally only has about 5 meals which I recycle? How do people come up with new meal ideas for every night?!?!

Kpo58 · 25/05/2018 17:20

I hate cooking. After a long day, the last thing I want to do is use my small amount of precious free time cooking.

DepressedAspie · 25/05/2018 17:20

I just go to the petrol station and buy a sandwich and some crisps.

travailtotravel · 25/05/2018 17:21

Even cheese on toast is too much effort sometimes

TheSecondOfHerName · 25/05/2018 17:21

Since 2000 I have planned over 6000 meals. Since 2005 the meal planning has been for 6 people, one of whom is a fussy eater due to ASD and sensory issues.

I stay within a budget (£100 per week for food and drink), take advantage of any offers and take into account what we already have in the fridge/cupboards to reduce food waste.

This all makes me sound like a paragon of domestic organisation, but...

I FUCKING HATE DOING IT!!!!!

DepressedAspie · 25/05/2018 17:23

I’ve had to do cooking since 1983 and I’ve given up now. It’s quite liberating, but nutritionally dubious 😂

HangersOn · 25/05/2018 17:38

Someone did ask me if I enjoyed cooking - family of 6 - several food allergies/ intolerances or just dislikes. I replied ‘I don’t know, but I do a lot of it!’
I honestly don’t know if I like cooking or not. I do like eating nice food and it’s easier if I do it in this family as no one else is as practiced at it.

LifeBeginsAtGin · 25/05/2018 17:38

Amen.

AnneProtheroe · 25/05/2018 17:46

I have to admit that despite loving cooking, if I'm on my own it doesn't seem worth the effort so I'll grab a chunk of cheese for my dinner with a glass of wine occasionally I'll have a dessert of chocolate too 😎

Dobbythesockelf · 25/05/2018 17:49

I get sick to death of cooking as well. Tonight we are having pizza cause I just CBA. Get so sick of meal planning, budgeting, shopping etc and that's before I even began to prepare the actual food.

Bowlofbabelfish · 25/05/2018 17:50

I hate cooking. I hate everything to do with it. I hate being shattered after work and having to whip something up in ten minutes because I have a screaming toddler climbing my legs. I hate having to cook stuff I don’t even like because that’s all the fussy eaters will eat. I’d happily live off toast and never cook another meal agains

Nutrient paste down the Taurian shelter...

junebirthdaygirl · 25/05/2018 17:53

Just said to dh a few mins ago that l am fed up of cooking and thinking of what to have. My dc are mostly away teavelling iver the summer and l cant wait to just have brown bread and cheese for a month!!

hushnowthanks · 25/05/2018 17:54

OP, you are not the only one who wants to fucking weep come tea time - I absolutely DETEST cooking. Now, do not get me wrong, I am absolutely not a princess, but I’m convinced that eating out is my birth right. I will do anything to avoid making a nutritious home made meal for my family.

Thankfully, the man of the house is a very competent chef and will happily take the reins on a weekend which is the only reason I have not yet LTB

My mother always hated it and Mum grandmother can’t cook for shit - must be heredetory Cake

Thewindsofchange · 25/05/2018 17:56

Here too. I HATE shopping and meal planning and then cooking. Trying to get variety and something everyone will eat. Hate it.

Bowlofbabelfish · 25/05/2018 17:59

When my parents retired, my mother laid down her utensils and declared she was never cooking again. DF, who always worked insanely long hours, has taken up the baton and I don’t think she ever has cooked again.Grin so there’s hope.

Idrinkandiknowstuff · 25/05/2018 18:00

I’d eat out, doesn’t have to be expensive, loads of places do 2 for £10 type deals.

franktheskank · 25/05/2018 18:02

I use Pinterest for ideas and have a good board on there, but it's an interest of mine, we all have our thingsSmile I absolutely hate cleaning and I do the bare minimum, Dh and the cleaner do the rest Grin I suppose the cooking is my way of making up for that!

franktheskank · 25/05/2018 18:03

And I do the same thing for everyone, I don't care if someone doesn't like onions and another doesn't like fish, they get what they're given and there's always plenty of choice on the table so no one should go hungry.

LadyMarmyLard · 25/05/2018 18:05

I hate cooking too. Didn't mind before I had fussy toddlers but when I'm sweeping it all off the floor, I just think, what's the bloody point.
