Vapers, dog owners and breastfeeders are all offensive in public

Anyone else listening to radio two? I'm not the mortally offended type but I'm pretty astounded at what I've heard

OP posts:
ethelfleda · 25/05/2018 15:41

I'm breastfeeding currently and was all set to shout about my rights to any twats who dared question me. It hasn't happened

Same. I don't think anyone has ever actually even noticed! And I don't scurry off in to a corner to be discreet Hmm

ElMarineroBaila · 25/05/2018 15:46

I'll go back to smoking instead then since vaping is so offensive Hmm if you think vaping is offensive then you need to get a grip.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/05/2018 15:49

Sure, but people wearing perfume or hairspray etc aren't actively blowing/wafting it towards you Nor do smokers and vapers. They aren't aiming their smoke or vapour AT anyone!

Don't be so silly! Or so unreasonable. Or so demanding that the world revolves around you!

Carboholic · 25/05/2018 15:54

But I've seen women breastfeed then the baby lets go and she just sits there with a bare boob casually hanging out for ten minutes.

I have similarly never ever seen this in my entire life. And I have spent many many hours in places where women hang out with small children (softplays, cafes near parks, community centres, baby groups). Are you sure you did not only hear about it from someone on the radio, and imagined this happened to you? And women - you mean to imply you have seen multiple people do this?

ethelfleda · 25/05/2018 15:55

Oh I don't find vaping or dog owners offensive either. Stephen Fry's quote about being offended rings true here!

FlyingDandelionSeed · 25/05/2018 15:57

And the word discreet should be banned in relation to breast feeding. All it does is make nervous feeders more self conscious.

This. Breastfeeding can be hard enough to master, let alone the psychological hurdle of doing it in public, without adding in the pressure of having to do it so no one notices...

It's really not that hard to not look at someone's breasts if you are worried about seeing something.

SomeAreMoreEqualThanOthers · 25/05/2018 16:38

Don't be so silly! Or so unreasonable. Or so demanding that the world revolves around you!

If I wanted to taste/smell cigarette smoke or vape cloud I would be a smoker or vaper myself. I'm not because I actively hate those things. It's therefore not unreasonable or demanding to not want to breathe those things in in shared public spaces.

TheBogWitchIsBack · 25/05/2018 16:53

I really don't get the defensiveness over vaping. No one is saying they want you to smoke again ..but you've substituted one smelly thing for another smelly thing.
Just as you'd be considerate and not blow cig smoke round people the same should apply with vaping.
Some of it is pretty unpleasant smelling.

Roomba · 25/05/2018 17:06

Not bothered in the slightest by vaping or breastfeeding in public. In fact, I'm very in favour of both - vaping much better than smoking and breastfeeding is great for babies and perfectly natural.

Dogs on those thin extendable leads should be put straight in Room 101 though! I've got tangled in them before and poor DS fell over one last year, damaging his wrist and ripping his entire fingernail right off Shock

Mousefunky · 25/05/2018 17:11

I hate vaping almost as much as I hate smoking. There’s a bigger cloud from vaping which is incredibly obnoxious. It’s the ‘I don’t care who this cloud of sickly smelling shit enshrouds’ that annoys me.

Dog owners that don’t pick up the shit are cunts of the highest order.

Anyone who is peed off by breastfeeding mums are also cunts of the highest order.

GothMummy · 25/05/2018 17:17

How can anyone be offended by breastfeeding these days? If people are offended they are the ones at fault not the poor nursing mother.

Agree that some dog owners are not responsible, and I have no feelings either way about vaping!

MrsBobDylan · 25/05/2018 17:32

The key is to enjoy offending people. I find it increasing satisfying the older I get and regret not offending people enough when I was younger.

eggsandchips · 25/05/2018 17:59

Well I heard that too. I can't understand the breastfeeding woman the one who was making out public breastfeeding inconsiderate because quite frankly when I am out and about and I see a woman breastfeeding I'm quite honestly delighted! Why? Well anyone knows what the case would be if the baby didn't get fed - she/he would scream the cafe , shop, wherever down. Therefore everyone in the vicinity gets peace. Can't see what's inconsiderate about that.

Also I can't understand why people would get offended over the sight of it occurring in the first place. Very odd. Never ever understood the issue some folk have with public breastfeeding.

Although I don't care about vaping either. It's noisy adults and people bellowing down their phones that annoy me.

Bowlofbabelfish · 25/05/2018 18:06

Vaping can potentially impact others - the smell is a bit odd and unpleasant. If in an enclosed space then it could have an impact
Dog owners - depends entirely on the type. Some are fantastic and have well controlled dogs, some shouldn’t be allowed to have them. So there’s a potential impact, but not
Breastfeeding doesn’t impact anyone. It’s doesnt hurt or harm anyone and I have NEVER seen anyone sit with their tits out. Ever. Generally you don’t even realise someone is feeding - it just looks like someone holding a baby.

Now if you were giving the baby a vape while breastfeeding the dog, then Ok ...

ibblebibbledibble · 25/05/2018 18:47

Can’t stand vaping. It stinks and looks common! Might as well stand there flashing your tramp stamp! Grin

FASH84 · 25/05/2018 18:49

Vaping without consideration is bad form. I'm pregnant and don't want to inhale your sickly sweet nicotine clouds nor does my baby. I have no issue with dogs as long as they don't jump all over me and ladies breast feed wherever the hell you want.

Ollivander84 · 25/05/2018 18:49

ibble- if you don't like smoking either then you should support vaping. For a lot of people it's one or the other
More vapers = less smokers and less people dying from smoking related diseases
But it looks "common" so nah, lets insult it rather than support the quitting smoking...

Lockheart · 25/05/2018 18:55

Are dog owners offensive all the time or just when they’ve got their dog with them? I don’t tend to take my dog down the shops or into town (unless making a specific trip to the vets).

Would also hate to hear what that caller thinks of blind people with their guide dogs...

Skiiltan · 25/05/2018 18:55

I can’t see how vaping could be that offensive to anyone. It doesn’t even smell!?

It smells absolutely vile. Can you really not smell it?

No problem with the majority of dog-walkers.

Absolutely no problem with breast-feeding. Major anger at people who object to breast-feeding in public.

Skiiltan · 25/05/2018 18:58

But I've seen women breastfeed then the baby lets go and she just sits there with a bare boob casually hanging out for ten minutes.
I have literally never seen this in my entire life.

Because it doesn't happen. Someone just has an over-active imagination.

Ohmydayslove · 25/05/2018 19:02

Ah but was she traumatised!! Everyone is traumatised now!

I bf all of my children and am still cross no one complained to me. I have s bitchy resting face though so look intimidating.

Vaping great. Anyone else old enough to remember when anyone could smoke cigarettes and pipes anywhere including school
Classrooms just see it as a massive improvement.

And I love dogs.

She sounds s miserable bitch

Ohmydayslove · 25/05/2018 19:04

People can’t object to breastfeeding its now protected by the law.

Murane · 25/05/2018 19:30

But I've seen women breastfeed then the baby lets go and she just sits there with a bare boob casually hanging out for ten minutes.

My SIL did it every single time we went out anywhere. Hence my post. She would sit with her boob uncovered, burping and holding the baby for a good ten minutes after unlatching, because apparently it was too much hassle to pull up her top when the baby might want some more shortly. It was so awkward that I stopped going out with her.

Dogs on those thin extendable leads should be put straight in Room 101 though!
Extendable leads can be retracted and have a button you press to stop them extending. A courteous dog owner would retract and hold the dog on a short lead when passing a person or another dog, then let the lead out when it's safe to do so. Imo the lead itself isn't a problem, it's the pillock holding it who can't be bothered to behave respectfully around others.

Ethylred · 25/05/2018 19:44

Visible bum crack grinds my gears.

AgentCooper · 25/05/2018 21:32

I've never had a negative word or look (that I'm aware of) breastfeeding DS in public. I always wondered why some mothers would feel they had to hide in toilets to do it BUT today I was in the city centre and DS needed a feed. Everywhere was so exposed and, to be honest, full of teenagers who I would imagine would not want to see it, mainly because DS can't last a feed without pulling off, looking around and exposing my nipple to the world. This doesn't feel like a big deal in cafes or libraries which are quiet during the week but it definitely felt different today! So I snuck off to a toilet and it was grim Sad
