To dislike other people's sticky, unclean children!

AIBU?

I don't dislike other people's children in general but AIBU to be pissed off when other people let their kids go around with snotty noses, sticky stuff on their hands from eating sweet stuff and unclean mouths after eating?

I just don't understand it. Buy some wipes ffs.

And no, I'm not talking about normal wear and tear of being a child, such as mud, muddy clothes or getting wet in puddles, etc etc

I'm talking about being messy, completely unkept.

Can't stand it.

Do you have children yourself?

DeadGood · 24/05/2018 22:07

I hear you OP. In general I kept mine pretty clean, at least to look at (!) it wasn’t that hard.

Allabouts · 24/05/2018 22:09

Yes, I'm a Mum myself.

I don't know why it would be questionable that I am, does letting a child remain and run around snotty and sticky come with being a parent then?

I didn't get the memo Grin

Tiny ones eating a lolly in the pushchair.. How can you lift them out covered in clag and what state is the buggy in?? Grim.

MuddyForestWalks · 24/05/2018 22:10

Wipes are bad for the environment.

I wipe DS with a muslin or flannel approximately a million times a day and he is still snotty. Little bugger pours snot like a tap pours water, its horrifying. Unless there's such a thing as toddler nose tampons then I really can't do more than I am.

Anyway where are you encountering all these sticky snotty children? And how do you know what is going on in their homes?

Chelseajunior · 24/05/2018 22:10

I'm with you!
Can't stand it when i see kids with grubby hands/faces.

Allabouts · 24/05/2018 22:13

Muddy Even if these people feel wipes are bad for the environment and don't want to use them, there are other alternatives otherwise how else would you wipe them at all?

By snotty kids I mean ones who's noses clearly aren't being wiped.

And sticky hands from food. And just giving a quick once over with a small wipe when a child is literally covered in something sticky.

SILs I'm looking at you.

Boak Envy

KimchiLaLa · 24/05/2018 22:13

Yes. I know I need to get over it but I take DD to some classes where the kids have snot all over their faces and I don't get why a quick wipe can't happen. It takes 30 secs.

AwesomeMixTapeVol1 · 24/05/2018 22:14

Toddler nose tampons! Grin

Bea1985 · 24/05/2018 22:16

I hate it too. Can't stand seeing kids with dried snot all over their faces and crusty gunk on third hands,
( I'm a mum! My DD is always relatively clean).
Just wipe them!

Bea1985 · 24/05/2018 22:16

On THEIR hands lol

GinnyWreckin · 24/05/2018 22:19

Wait till they start nursery, then they’ll be whiffy and sticky and snotty.

Sometimes at collection time, I’d reel backwards at the smell in the room with thirty or so sweaty sticky kids cooped up for a rainy afternoon with play doh...
Grim.

But nursery is nothing like the secondary boys’ school classroom in a hot afternoon with BO rising like a noxious miasma from well worn nylon/ poly cotton shirts.
Oh lord, that was some swampy, nasty thing.
Gas masks at the ready.

BlackeyedSusan · 24/05/2018 22:21

other peoples? my own are bad enough.

Mine are muck magnets though. sent to school in clean uniform. whether it is clean when they actually get in the classroom is another matter.

Lifeaback · 24/05/2018 22:22

Couldn’t agree more. ESPECIALLY at soft play when said sticky handed children proceed to make the toys sticky.

FWIW, I have 4 kids and manage to keep them all in states of relative cleanliness so have absolutley no sympathy for parents who argue it’s too hard to keep on top of it!

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 24/05/2018 22:27

Yanbu. It's grim as are grimy, sticky, stained prams and car seats. Envy and yes, I have a few of my own I just don't let them go around looking a state.

adaline · 24/05/2018 22:31

YANBU at all it's disgusting.

My parents insisted on wipes and handwashing and I don't remember any of my friends being grubby and dirty when I was young.

Neato · 24/05/2018 22:32

Agree. I can't bear to have to kiss even my own nieces or nephews when they are drooly, snotty, sticky messes because their mum says it can wait until bathrobe! Noooo ffs- it's grim! They constantly spread that stuff everywhere. Just boak.

Neato · 24/05/2018 22:33

Bathtime not bathrobe !

shakeyourcaboose · 24/05/2018 22:34

@muddyforestwalks Toddler nose tampons yes please! Will buy a glut!!

bellsbuss · 24/05/2018 22:35

When I go to toddler groups and see children with snotty noses i feel like heaving. So gross

hopeful31yrs · 24/05/2018 22:39

I hate my own child being snotty sticky and messy.... but... it happens. As much as I try to control it she makes more snot and secretions and it's a loosing battle. I still try to clean her as much as I can but it's never enough.... just have to accept it to a degree and I don't expect people to love it.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 24/05/2018 22:40

I want some toddler nose tampons!

madmomma · 24/05/2018 22:40

Agree. Unless they're playing outside and are wholesomely muddy. No excuse to be dirty or smelly indoors. I hate it when parents just let snot crusts stick to noses. Soak them off with a warm flannel ffs!

agnurse · 24/05/2018 22:44

As far as the wipes, did you know you can make your own? I'm not kidding! I have a recipe (not to hand, unfortunately). What it amounts to is you take a roll of kitchen towel, cut it in half with a power saw (seriously), pull out the cardboard, and put the towels in a container. You cover them with water and add a little bit of baby soap. (Not sure how much to add; as I said, recipe is not to hand.) I have never used these, but I got the recipe out of a community cookbook created by people who shared their favourite recipes. The woman who submitted this one said she had used homemade wipes with her three babies and liked them better than store-bought. Being made of kitchen towel, they would be biodegradable and you could use gentle soap.

MumofBoysx2 · 24/05/2018 22:45

I must admit I find the snot a bit unnecessary - if they have a cold you chase after them with tissues and wipes, well I do anyway!
