AIBU?

I don't dislike other people's children in general but AIBU to be pissed off when other people let their kids go around with snotty noses, sticky stuff on their hands from eating sweet stuff and unclean mouths after eating?

I just don't understand it. Buy some wipes ffs.

And no, I'm not talking about normal wear and tear of being a child, such as mud, muddy clothes or getting wet in puddles, etc etc

I'm talking about being messy, completely unkept.

Can't stand it.

Dirty hair gets me as well, hate seeing that!

Delancy · 24/05/2018 22:46

Just as gross, long, unclipped fingernails with black dirt underneath. Boak. At least put them in the bath semi-regularly. And cut their nails!!

insomuchpain · 24/05/2018 22:46

My daughter has allergies and constantly has a snotty nose. We wipe it all the time and she gets a sore nose from wiping it to much been the docs nothing can be done. So do us a favour and don't be so judgey Halo

CatchIt · 24/05/2018 22:47

I hate seeing children with crusty snotty noses - and it always seems to be little boys.

My ds is nearly 2 and he's a snot monster but I'm constantly wiping his nose - or he's wiping it on me 😕 🤢 < not envy so I end up with crusty snot rather than ds!

I don't mind filthy children though, I always think a dirty child is a happy child! (As long as they get a bath before bed obviously!)

angryburd · 24/05/2018 22:48

I can handle just about most bodily excretions but seeing snottery childre makes me feel physically sick. Especially when it's running into their mouth... uuurgh!!

Kokapetl · 24/05/2018 22:50

I would have agreed except mine seem to be able to go from completely clean to crusty snotfaced messes in 2 minutes flat. They also object very loudly to being wiped and TBH, if I wiped them every 2 minutes they would get sore noses. I also can't do anything about their faces while at school/nursery.

smithsinarazz · 24/05/2018 22:50

i happened to meet DH on the way out to the park this evening. He said "Ha ha, you look like you've been groped." I had big sticky patches on my boobs. I'd been eating jam scones in a cafe with a friend and DS had marmalised his half, then thought he might like something to wash them down, turned round and grabbed my mammaries with his sticky, crumby, jammy hands. I'm a classy bird, I am. I had to go home and get changed.

PositivelyPERF · 24/05/2018 22:51

Maybe a stupid question, insomuchpain, but have you tried taking her off dairy? My middle lad had a constantly runny nose, but it completely cleared up when he stopped dairy products.

Notcontent · 24/05/2018 22:54

I have to agree! Many times I have had to resist the urge clean them myself!!

evilharpy · 24/05/2018 22:56

YANBU. Mine (3.5) is generally clean, dislikes being dirty and can eat without smearing it all overself, but seems to have hay fever and at the moment has streaming eyes and nose. I thought our days of snot were behind us but no :( at least she's big enough to blow her own nose.

ErictheGuineaPig · 24/05/2018 22:56

My pet dirty child hate is when people don't change their kid's dirty nappy quickly. The smell and the worry about their poor, sore bums really annoys me. Also allowing their kids to walk around Playgroup while eating, dropping food everywhere and smearing it all over the toys.

I do wish someone would invent toddler nose tampons though, I'd pay good money for them!

FreakOrYonique · 24/05/2018 22:57

It is gross, and if your kid is that snotty, keep them home or keep up with them and keep wiping.

Agree with PERF about dairy. It's mucous-forming and actually really bad for us.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 24/05/2018 22:57

One shouldn’t remove milk from child diet were there is no intolerance Given milk provides calcium, vitamin D uptake & absorption, good fat and hydration
A runny nose is no big deal compared to nutritional benefits of milk

TinkyWinky40 · 24/05/2018 22:57

YANBU.

I cannot bear this, no excuses for wiping snotty noses and faces covered in food/dribble. I’ve seen kids with such horrendous snot I actually start gagging, their parents are oblivious to it 🤢🤮

Allabouts · 24/05/2018 23:00

Allergy snot usually isn't thick and green. And you haven't mentioned allowing her to Rome Free with sticky hands and a dirty face so you don't fit the description

Besides, I highly doubt most children fitting the brief of my OP all have allergies

It seems to be primarily little blond boys who are the real snot demons - anyone know why?!

Can't stop laughing at toddler tampons for noses. DD isn't usually snotty, but she had a cold last week that, towards the end when things were drying up, produced bogeys so large that I thought bits of her brain were squidging out of her nose. One got stuck in her hair and it was just... awful Envy - NOT envy!

Rainatnight · 24/05/2018 23:05

I really hate seeing babies and toddlers with unwiped noses. It doesn't make me feel sick or anything, just that it must be so uncomfortable for the poor little one. Sad

My DD, nearly 2, gets covered in what I might call play-dirt, but she herself is pretty basically clean, always.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2018 23:05

Yabu, being too clean us bad for their health, immune systems need dirt for them to build up immunity. I have not hit time to keep running around ds with a snotty nose, when dd who has ASD is being very demanding. If I see it snotty, I clean it. I don't mind sticky hands, but they must wash hands after the toilet.

SunnyLikeThursday · 24/05/2018 23:05

I don't like to see kids with running noses, but when my ds was small he had a running nose all the time, left unwiped, because he cried if I tried to fix it.

Aeroflotgirl · 24/05/2018 23:07

Oh and ds hates his face being touched, so I don't go round constantl wiping it, if it's particularly dirty, it gets wiped with a warm wet flannel.

Chickoletta · 24/05/2018 23:12

Unkempt hair is the one that always got me at nursery. There were several girls who would come every day with bird nest hair or limp straggly hair all over their faces. I’m not the best at hair myself but how hard is it to spend 5 mins with a comb and some clips?

As for wipes, I discovered Cheeky Wipes with DD2 and they were life changing. Eco friendly and so much nicer and more effective than baby wipes. Almost worth having another baby to get to use them again. Almost.

PastaSauceHoarder · 24/05/2018 23:12

I work with a lot of little ones (aged around 4/5) and I feel I'm constantly telling them to go and get a tissue. Theres two in particular that ALWAYS have thick green slime trickling down into their mouths - urgh.
They know how to wipe their noses, they just don't think to because for some reason it doesn't bother them.

LipstickHandbagCoffee · 24/05/2018 23:14

Doesn’t bother me.i pay good Money for my kids to look outdoorsy and scruffy at nursery
I don’t need staff or me chasing my kids to wipe nose,or fix hair
It doesn’t matter.in the least

What a load of rubbish. Plenty of incredibly healthy children don’t drinks cows milk. The clue is in the name cows milk.
