Ethics regarding Instamums and huns

BurberryIsSo2000 · 24/05/2018 17:14

Homeisthecalm here, I think it's suitable to start a new ethics thread.

Since clearly, the one from yesterday isn't really about ethics but Clemmie.

Thanks all,

Keep it as nice or as stingy as you like Grin

I'll start off by saying things should be clearly marked 'ad' or 'gifted'

Although the term gifted gives me the rage

I personally find mother pukkas post quite passive aggressive with the whole "are we all clear what an ad is". I also feel like she's kinda thrown all her little groupies she picked up on her way up under a bus a bit with this whole transparency thing and has now adopted a holier than thou attitude.

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 14:29

MrTumblesmum. It's exactly the same on IG! I don't watch YouTube, except for 80s music videos Grin

By the way none of them use Method. They use Aesop. And Aesop don't need to pay the little instas cos their product is 👌🏻.

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 14:30

MrTumblesmum Grin I know, MP has totally thrown them under the bus. I like her smarts.

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 14:31

But look back - MP was disclosing ads back in 2016.

mrtumblesmum · 07/06/2018 14:31

And whilst I'm at it...no I dont want a f'in desenio print with 25% off if I quote your name. Go get a proper job.

ConfidentialWaste · 07/06/2018 14:44

I don't think it is passive aggressive, I think it is good to remind people what the policy is now and then. It's the ones without a clear policy that bother me. There is some interesting chat under the post around moderation of comments, which I think is the next topic that a lot of IGers need to grapple with and get on top of (MP again being ahead of the game on this). Steering the conversation has to be the way forward and some IGers are good at this, some, errr, not so.

ConfidentialWaste · 07/06/2018 14:45

I don't want a Desenio print either although I have browsed the site extensively being easily influenced and all

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 07/06/2018 15:24

Never heard of Aesop @Wearelocal Where do I get it?!l I love the smell of Method stuff and it doesn't make me feel like I've been sniffing glue (or any other strong solvent) after cleaning my shower.

The M's are definitely in bed with Neilson. Not transparent at all though what the arrangement is. Even if their friends are there they could still be getting some of their stay paid for or discounted. I would strongly suspect a partial discount at the very least.

They took over the Neilson Instagram on one of their holidays last year. Bet Neilson won't be having that this time. Live tracking of sickness bug spreading through their resort!

jamoncrumpets · 07/06/2018 15:34

I'd expect there's been communication between brand and client about how to manage the sickness situation.

ConfidentialWaste · 07/06/2018 15:45

So I caved in to the pressure and looked at the MrsM IG. I can't believe the comments - people advising on what food to give her children to help them recover, not one querying WTF she is doing letting her children go into the hotel swimming pool!

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 16:25

Spongebob

www.aesop.com/uk?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2fid0-3B2wIVl5EbCh3vywfVEAAYASAAEgKUIPD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds

It's the nicest products ever. Expensive but worth it and good credentials. You'll usually see them lurking in interior pics - y'know in metro tiled showers. (The method stuff also has pretty good credentials to be fair).

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 16:28

Sorry, they're skin products not cleaners. Their handwashes are the products I've seen in instas' bathrooms.

Moonkissedlegs · 07/06/2018 16:36

Just looked at that Aesop website.

11 actual pounds for a stick of lip balm.

😂

its5oclocksomewhere · 07/06/2018 16:50

Well a quick look at ASA rulings thanks to the latest posts here is quite eye opening. I just searched for a few people I follow (and have been on my radar for being less than transparent) and lo and behold, there are a few "informally resolved" cases. It's good to know know that people are reporting and the ASA is responding.

TheLadyhasarrived · 07/06/2018 16:54

The meldrums are not selling Neilsen to me at all really, if that is part of what they are trying to do.
The sickness bug, the apartments look dingy (Mrs m looked like she was speaking from a grubby underground bunker on her stories but it was their patio/terrace!)
It just makes it seems dirty, even though it’s probably not.
Not great for either brand really.

LaminLodge · 07/06/2018 17:04

I will try Adeola, you have influenced me again Local!! Grin Normally I get my wash bits from Boot’s bargain bin Blush

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 17:09

Laminlodge it's like the old days when people just recommended things like actually like Grin

Moonkissed. No to the lipbalm. Yes to the hand wash. But you don't let anybody else use it Grin

LaminLodge · 07/06/2018 17:09

What the shit autocorrect?!! It turned Aesop into Adeola. I type that name many times a day, easy mistake ha ha. Adeola is my son’s name. He is not as sweet smelling as the Aesop products I bet 😂😂

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 17:09
  • ...they actually like'.
Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 17:11

Laminlodge promise that if you hate Anne Tyler and Aesop you won't come on here and troll me Smile

LaminLodge · 07/06/2018 17:13

Ha ha Local I like your style. I will not let Adeola or any of the three hyenas I call my children use my hand wash. Mama’s secret stash Grin My ex the deadbeat dad also had a secret stash but we don’t talk about that [anger]

jamoncrumpets · 07/06/2018 17:29

Interested in these ASA rulings. Whose names come up?

kirinm · 07/06/2018 17:36

@jamoncrumpets looks like brands rather than the individual influencers most of the time. Just google ASA rulings.

Wearelocal · 07/06/2018 17:40

Laminlodge I'm sensing a bit of Angry about the ex. Maybe you need to express this in a AIBU? Smile

LaminLodge · 07/06/2018 17:41

Wearelocal ha ha no no I promise I would not come and troll you. Honest recommendations are welcome always even if they turn out to be crap Grin But you have good taste I can tell.

In return I am giving you a recommendation.I love the Mommy Mormon bloggers on Instagram, such a positive no bullshit outlook! Pink Peonies who goes by the name rachparcell on Instagram is building a new house and doing it up.Her current house is very lovely, very white and fresh. Your style I think? Smile
