Ethics regarding Instamums and huns

BurberryIsSo2000 · 24/05/2018 17:14

Homeisthecalm here, I think it's suitable to start a new ethics thread.

Since clearly, the one from yesterday isn't really about ethics but Clemmie.

Thanks all,

Keep it as nice or as stingy as you like Grin

I'll start off by saying things should be clearly marked 'ad' or 'gifted'

Although the term gifted gives me the rage

Passes for an article
I’m sure it’s all insufferable going by that

Either follow the arguments properly or not at all

YourLookieLikey · 05/06/2018 17:35

LaminLodge perhaps a Grazia article written from a mumsnetter's perspective could be your first commissioned piece? We can proof read it for you before you submit Wink

Wearelocal · 05/06/2018 17:38

I thought several pp on the threads said he should be the one to close his account? He's the one featuring the kids. Her mistake was the to do with Laura.

YourLookieLikey · 05/06/2018 17:38

Exactly! It's like writing an essay after skim reading the text books to "get the gist"

Wearelocal · 05/06/2018 17:52

mrtumblesmum she isn't, by anyone normal. It's just standard tabloid writing.

LaminLodge · 05/06/2018 18:07

Haha @YourLookieLikey I definitely need proofreaders. Not interested in writing for Grazia. It’s novels for me Smile

PavlovaPrincess · 05/06/2018 18:32

Lots and lots of projection going on in that Grazia article along with not a lot of research.

As a PP (jam?) has said, no one is going to let this drop when she eventually returns.

mrtumblesmum · 05/06/2018 18:38

I'm already cringing at her inevitable "comeback"

mrtumblesmum · 05/06/2018 18:40

I like to think of the grazia journo asking mod what she does other than being a midwife...
"Well I'm a mother" and err "a grafter".

LaminLodge · 05/06/2018 18:45

“Return of The MOD” Sing with me ladies Grin

YourLookieLikey · 05/06/2018 18:47

Grifter springs to mind more than grafter when I think of influencer marketing tactics.

YourLookieLikey · 05/06/2018 18:59

That last comment wasn't directed at MOD by the way! Just influencer marketing tactics in general (the lack of transparency mainly, which I take real issue with - MOD was very transparent compared to many before her account went)

finks100 · 05/06/2018 19:56

That article is terrible, really doesn’t inspire me to buy Grazia!
The sad thing is that these influencers are taking over the journalists jobs. Magazines are closing down because we can get our image/aspiration fix on instagram.
I read something about it the other day...will try and find it.
In the mean time if that is the quality of article kicking around in magazines then I am not surprised.

(The Face- 80’s/90’s reference for those who remember- it isn’t!

bawbles · 05/06/2018 19:58

I follow a random bunch (when I first joined I followed every account instagram suggested) and enjoy some of instamums posts particularly the Fletchers (who are slebs in their own right) but also share a lot of parenting stuff

Gi’s brother Mario is very opaque with his ads. Pretty much every post was an outfit tagged to an account, watches with a personalised discount code, recommendations for a ‘trader/investment guru’ to make £100s per week just using your phone Hmm

Not one post is marked as sponsored/gifted/ad

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 05/06/2018 20:11

Is he a reality star bawbles? Mario something, isn't it?

The reality stars are a whole different league from instamums when it comes to hawking stuff. It's pretty much all they do and it's often a bit dodgy so clearly they say yes to anything. The ones who're being managed well probably get told to make the most of it whilst they have their 5 minutes of fame. But I can't see why anyone would want to follow them. Unless they have an insatiable interest in slimming pills and whitening toothpastes.

SpongeBobGrannyPants · 05/06/2018 20:12

Sorry, just noticed you said it was Mario.

ConfidentialWaste · 05/06/2018 20:28

It's not the Mario guy from TOWIE is it? I think most of the towie crew went on to flog various things. I don't follow any of them on IG though for that very reason (well also the fact I'm not quite in that age bracket any more - I do remember The Face in fact I have a bag of old copies under my sofa - sadly, I can't say I'll be keeping any old copies of Grazia Grin)

I ended looking at Sam Faiers IG for some reason a while ago (I do have a secret soft spot for TOWIE) and ended down a IG rabbit hole and on her partner Paul's IG page which creeped me out for one specific reason - see if anyone else can spot it Wink

bawbles · 05/06/2018 21:07

Yeah from TOWIE. He’s full on peddling snake oil. Apart from being handsome I can’t see what his ‘talent’ is? I like the Fletchers as they are clearly very talented - I used to love their singing vids pre kids plus the songwriting/books/ play etc they seem hardworking and genuine

Babbas · 05/06/2018 21:34

The problem with Insta people discussing metal health is that because they hawk and commodotise every aspect of theirs and their children's lives it's difficult to take them seriously. For me when they talk about metal health it feels like another way they are trying to keep themselves relevant and it leads to a host of event invites, book deals etc. It's disingenuous.

Babbas · 05/06/2018 21:35

Mental health, not metal!

Boredandtired · 05/06/2018 21:44

Babbas I agree with that. When FOD did his male mental health bit I just couldn't buy it. It seemed fake. And the sad thing was I'm sure he was actually trying to be genuine but because of the way he presents and how his account works it seemed completely unreal.

Bakingnovice · 05/06/2018 22:55

Urghhh everyone seems to be getting the same freebies relating to fathers day. Some of the stuff they are hawking must cost a few pounds (cake toppers, razors etc). I wonder why they do it? It's cheap and discredits them. I mean, who wants to see someone advertising cheap cake toppers from their massive country pile??! This is the same account that was advertising the teepee earlier this week.

TireSwing · 06/06/2018 06:23

@ConfidentialWaste - I've had a look and can't see it! I'm intrigued!

Moonkissedlegs · 06/06/2018 07:32

Just looked at Mario Falcone's account. He and Giovanna are so different are they?! And how does he get away with not tagging any of that stuff as #ad, he must be getting paid for at least some of it? Does he just think he is special and doesn't have to bother or something?

Wearelocal · 06/06/2018 08:12

Moonkissedlegs aren't they! He's more Craaaaaig David Grin
