To ask what gifts you give to nursery key workers?

My DS has two weeks left of nursery before he turns 3 and will be moving to a bigger nursery. I was going to fill a small hamper with some nice teas, hot chocolate, coffee, biscuits etc for all the staff to share in the office. I want to get something separate and a bit more special for his key worker but I really don't know what!
If you work in a nursery, what do you love receiving from the kids? Or what have you given to staff that they've really loved? Any ideas much appreciated

A lovely personalised card with maybe a photo of child and keyworker is always the most special gift imo x

At Christmas I got the staff at DS’s nursery cafe Nero vouchers which went down well. Any kind of coffee/food voucher is a good bet I reckon.

When my sons key worker left I gave her vouchers for a spa treatment - thought she deserved it after dealing with 12 under 2s all day at work!

We bought DD’s lovely keyworker a voucher through Buy a Gift for afternoon tea. It came in a gift tin, there were hundreds of places to get it redeemed and with Quidco and voucher codes I got it for about 30% off the value of the voucher.

I always buy them a nice bath bomb from lush at Xmas. Especially the ones that explode glitter on them unexpectedly - like their art does in my car after I've collected DC.

Alcohol makes a less passive aggressive gift to go alongside it.

We are not paid well so vouchers are good

They are paid really badly. I go for a Boots gift card as I figure Boots is good for either luxuries like perfume and nice makeup but also sells a lot of necessities so they can spend according to their needs.

I got a tin of sweets for the staff, but for his key worker we made a personalised card with a big thank you note on the back

At Christmas I've done things that can be shared amongst the six adults in the room as they all look after them all at various times - I've done fentimans drinks twice (one gift wrapped cardboard box with twelve little bottles and one with six larger bottles - they can divvy out which flavours they like) and funky A5 notepads with matching pens once (bought as 3pks on Amazon).

I once gave DS's keyworker a new leather purse. She was really pleased with it.

I think nursery workers are massively undervalued. Pre kids I figured it probably wasn’t a very difficult job but goodness me, two kids later, I now see that society places so little value on skills which IMO are fundamental to the world. I have a “highly skilled” job in finance and there is no way I could do what these nursery staff do. I am so grateful for them. Please do treat them. No amazing suggestions (will be watching for ideas!) but felt the need to share my appreciation anyway!

Oh I do the hamper thing too - always goes down really well.

I was a teacher for well over a decade and I received a gift from exactly three pupils. Why are you gifting teachers for doing their normal job they get paid for? Fair enough if they have gone above and beyond but otherwise no. I would have raked it in if I got a gift from each of the 100-200 pupils I taught each year!

The OP is giving a gift because she wants to show her appreciation Murane. There is nothing wrong with that. The tone of your email maybe explains why you only ever had three gifts...

Murane you would have been paid an awful lot more than nursery staff.

I was a nursery nurse for 12 years. It was always nice to receive the usual wine and chocolates with a card. Don't agree with the photo though of the child though, I've got my own children, I don't particularly want a photo of someone else's. Work is work.

Nice hand cream as they wash their hands a lot, especially those in baby room.

I don't bother much with teachers presents (DD makes a card usually) but always gave nursery presents. They're usually underpaid.

I have got my key workers scented candles, hand cream/pamper stuff and vouchers in the past. And biscuits/chocolates/teas for the room staff. Gifts have always been well received and it doesn't have to be expensive, just a token to show thanks. Agree its an awfully hard job and one that is grossly underpaid. Why not give them something back and show your appreciation for someone who has looked after your child?! Murane is probably just jealous as clearly no one ever liked her enough to buy her anything

Gift card for Boots is a good idea.

Murane - the teachers at our school always have loads of gifts at Xmas and at the end of the year so not sure why you only ever got three gifts...... Op, I'm a nursery nurse - I still have a lovely mug that one children gave me that I use every day. Would also appreciate nice smellies rather than chocs and sweets xx

It's just nice to show a bit of appreciation Murane. I've given doctors/nurses little gifts before even though they just do their job. Some jobs are bloody hard and deserve to be acknowledged.

Otherwise a nice gesture is a decent handcream. The nicest present I got (teacher) was lancome mascara and eye kit! But that is too much and any little thing at all is appreciated

I taught A levels... teenage boys aren't particularly thoughtful (or wealthy) and parents aren't involved at that age. But I still don't understand this culture of gifting people for a job they're paid to do, unless they've truly gone above and beyond...
