Dissertation Hell

AIBU to want to crawl under a rock and hide? I am 43 and have 4 days left to finish my dissertation (management), I've written 10,000 words which don't seem to make sense, things are all over the place and I have had the world's worst tutor.

I knew it would be a hard slog, but working all day, studying all night (I am averaging 5/6 hours a night) and finishing Friday seems like a pipe dream, the thing is I am not academic, I have kind of reached my peak thought process, no matter what I read, I still don't understand what I am doing half the time....I don't even know lots of big long fancy words which would made me look more intelligent on paper!

Any mature students want to give me some advice, or perhaps just a thumbs up, tell me they felt like this to, made it to the end and got a decent result? It's undergraduate level.

Feeling desperate here and facing many more hours ahead of staring a screen thinking WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well done op! Now time to relax and celebrate Gin

I wrote my dissertation in 3 days after my supervisor turned around to me at the final draft and said "this isn't actually a suitable title" Angry. I still get palpations at the panic I had trying to get it in, thought I'd written total and utter shite but got a 2.1, the feeling of relief after I submitted It!

Depending on the course you are on @ilovechocolatebuttons you may find it worth submitting an application for special consideration by the exam board due to being employed through the course, if the rest of your cohort are focussed on being students and you are a "widening participation" target e. G. Mature student, caring responsibility, or holding down a ft job whilst studying, it might make a difference if you're borderline between classification.

It was so strange I had felt I was alone in this bubble and then posting here really gave me a good kick, there were so many posts and I went through them one by one, taking on board the comments, especially around stepping back, linking a to b and making sure everything I wrote was backed up! Still in a daze and can’t wait for graduation!

A huge, huge well done. I've been where you were and regrettably let the panic set in and absolutely bombed it (no Mumsnet for me then). I found a different career path and am very happy where I am now but you should be so proud of all you've achieved. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!

DeriArms · 16/06/2018 20:22

Congratulations, that’s an amazing achievement!
