To think it's not fluffy 90s pop, but creepy asf?

So, 'You're Gorgeous" (Babybird) was on the radio today in the car. Naturally, I turned it up.
Was singing along, (dc in back) and it struck me that it's actually a very creepy song and not a happy 90s pop tune.. got me thinking, what other songs that were acceptable back in the day probably wouldn't make the cut today?

The 80s song, 'I touch myself', comes to mind... lol

AIBU Or what other old songs do you think are, in retrospect, creepy asf? 🤔🤣

lastnamefirst I'm the same when J. Geils Band - "Centrefold" comes on the radio. Can't.stand.it.

woodhill · 21/05/2018 21:03

It's on car share now - I touch myself yuck

user7469322 · 21/05/2018 21:07

"Freak Me" by Another Level 🤢. Always hated that song.

Wellthisunexpected · 21/05/2018 21:08

I always hated that song, even as a teenager. My friends thought I was nuts!

WittyJack · 21/05/2018 21:08

What's that awful song - "hang on in there baby"? It goes:

"Now that we've caressed
A kiss so warm and tender
I can't wait til we reach
That sweet moment of surrender"...

Even at about 11 when I heard that on the radio I knew it was Wrong?

daffodillament · 21/05/2018 21:11

Love it !

Seafoodeatit · 21/05/2018 21:11

Bobby vee - take good care of my baby

I always find it creepy when women are referred to as little girls, the tone of it has always creeped me out a bit too.

Loopytiles · 21/05/2018 21:11

Nothing like having DC in the car to make sleazy lyrics obvious.

A recent catchy one went something like “wanna get under your sexy body”. The teachers reportedly got pissed off about DC singing that one.

And the similar Ed Sheeran one - bleugh.

Keeptellingmyselfitsaphase · 21/05/2018 21:13

When i was 13 and loving 2 become 1 by Spice Girls only for my mum to remind me of the actual lyrics Shock

WindDoesNotBreakTheBendyTree · 21/05/2018 21:16

Recent-ish but Shape of You by Ed Sheeran is about the creepiest thing I have ever heard.

IsMyUserNameRubbish · 21/05/2018 21:17

Relax, don't do it
When you wanna suck it, do it

I'm pretty sure Frankie want talking about sitting on the sofa with a Chuppa (that's a lolly pop for all you kids out there with dirty minds) tee hee.

GabsAlot · 21/05/2018 21:18

i love i touch myself self explanatory

only song that creeps me out is thank heaven for little girls-yuck

Puffycat · 21/05/2018 21:19

AztecBanana is you dissing Neil Sedaka?! 😳

Username9876547 · 21/05/2018 21:21

Another vote for chantilly lace - I think Jerry lee Lewis actually married his 13 year old cousin. So yeah, pretty fuckin creepy

robotcartrainhat · 21/05/2018 21:21

oh and Peaches by the Stranglers..... 'why dont you come on and lap me up'... no thanks.

DeathByMascara · 21/05/2018 21:22

I work with an Eastern European who I swear thought I was joking when I said ‘I touch myself’ meant exactly what I said on the tin.

VioletCharlotte · 21/05/2018 21:23

I hate Nick Jonas - Jealous

"Its my right to be hellish, I still get jealous."

No. No it's not your right!

LonelyOversharer · 21/05/2018 21:29

I know it's not 90's but Little Mix's Secret Potion sounds so very wrong when sung along to in the car by my dd's. At least it's from the female perspective.

I loved Heart back in the day, I must not have listened or understood very well. Found the cd (remember those) a few years ago and promptly binned it! Every breath you take has always made me wince. soooo romantic. Really?

FlirtyRomanticToast · 21/05/2018 21:30

@Seafood I always thought that song was literally about a baby

Singlenotsingle · 21/05/2018 21:31

"I drove all night" by Roy Orbison. I love and adore the Big O, and I love the song but the words are a bit creepy. "I drove all night, crept in your room, woke you up to make love to you". It's a bit creepy/stalkerish. Makes me uneasy...

mnahmnah · 21/05/2018 21:32

lastname and kitten

It is often on radio 2 when me and me lift share are driving home from work. It’s become a running joke how creepy Steve Wright loves it. We find ourselves repeating the lyrics after she sings them in a disgusted voice and ‘urgh’ 😂

babybythesea · 21/05/2018 21:36

Young girl, get out of my mind.
My love for you is way out of line.
Better run, girl.
You're much too young girl.

Yuck.

VioletCharlotte · 21/05/2018 21:38

@FlirtyRomanticToast
No I don't think so, I'm pretty sure he's singing to an ex's new boyfriend.

Are you thinking of 'Kisses for me'? That was about a baby/ child

babybythesea · 21/05/2018 21:38

Bruce Springsteen.

Hey little girl is your Daddy home?
Did he go and leave you all alone?
I got a bad desire.
I'm on fire.
Tell me now baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do?
Oh no. I can take you higher.
I'm on fire.

Loved the tune as a kid, and still love Springsteen but don't listen to this one any more.

stellenbosch · 21/05/2018 21:39

Ed Sheeran? 🤔
