car park wars (with basic diagram)

Nipped to the shops in my lunch hour and parked in a fairly narrow car park, a car came in (marked 'her' on the diagram) and parked in front of my car, took her seatbelt off and just sat there. I waited a minute or so then pulled forward a little so she could see I wanted to get out but she just looked away; I gave a little 'pip' of the horn, not a full on beep and again she ignored me. I gave another little pip and she lifted her arms up in a what I'd call a 'whatdoyouwantmetodo' gesture so I asked her to please move her car a bit so I could get out. Nothing.

I got out of my car and went over and asked again if she could please move forward or backwards to let me out and she said "my fucking mum's disabled, I'm waiting for a space". So I said "there isn't any disabled spaces empty just now so if you could just pull forward I can get out". She then told me to "fuck off you fat cunt" and finally moved her car.

Firstly I was gutted because I've lost a lot of weight over the last year so that really stung, secondly was I out of order asking her to move? How long would you have waited?

YANBU. She was rude, particularly the comment re: your weight.

I could kind of see her point if the person who was parked in the disabled space was just in the process of leaving. (I’m assuming the spaces near the exit are the disabled ones) If someone was just leaving / driving out and she was preparing to move into that space then it would have been a minute or so and your route would be clear. In that situation then it would be reasonable to wait a minute or so for the changeover.

From your post it sounds like she was just hanging around waiting for a space to become free, blocking you in the process.

I'm sure you looked lovely and you've done amazingly well to lose the weight you have, but even if you hadn't lost a single pound, she had no right to call you names.

That said, anybody who can say "My fucking Mum" is a person who probably calls everybody names and so deserves even less space in your head.

Some people just think they can do as they like and their default personality is nasty sod when they get challenged on it.

If there were double spaces and her Mum needed the side space she could have parked in one with a free space to the side to transfer and just pulled the car out to get her back in. I'll say to you what I say to DS. When someone makes personal comments when they're trying to be mean to you, generally what they're actually saying is "I want to be mean. I want to make you feel bad". What they actually say is irrelevant - their main purpose is to hurt you. Therefore you can ignore what they say.

The stuff the bullies say to DS is sometimes pretty surreal tbh! They make random shit up and have a go at him for it. By the time they get to the age the woman in the car was, if they haven't grown out of it, they've refined their arseholery. she was just trying to hurt you, her opinion is worth shit.

Gunpowder is right about that, people do automatically call women fat as part of an insult.

I was threatened at work last year by a man who ran at me screaming "You ugly fat bitch. You fucking fat lebian."

And even though his arm was up like he was going to hit me, that made me laugh because who seriously uses lesbian as an insult?

Plus he was a very overweight and ugly man, and I blurted out "Have you looked in a mirror?" and he was the one who ended up upset.

So perhaps her own insecurities were coming into play.

Either way, there are worse things to be than fat, and better things to be than thin, and you sound lovely while she sounds awful so please don't worry about what some random nasty person said.

She sounds a bit dim, I don’t get why she couldn’t have just pulled into an empty non-disabled space to wait for a disabled one to come free, or parked in front of the run of empty spaces at the back of the car park.
What did she think was going to happen if she blocked in parked cars?

Though one question, probably your diagram is not quite to scale (shame on you! ) but could you not have driven/reversed into the empty space opposite/slightly to the right of you and then driven round her from there? Was she right in the middle of the aisle blocking it both ways?

I have a a response to people who use "fat" as a term of abuse. It goes

The first time it came into my head it was so effective, I've used it many times since. It's especially good when used by a well spoken, presentable, 60+ woman (like me) with some added F & C words. Leaves them like this .

That scene from Fried Green Tomatoes reminds me of the other day when I was leaving a parking space and a friend showed up in their car. The car park was packed. So, obviously I wanted to make sure he got the space.
As I was getting out another car showed up from the opposite direction, so I moved in a way that I blocked them and allowed my friend to park. They looked very annoyed, and it looked like they had expected to steal the space from under my friend's nose.
I was quite pleased to have thwarted their devious intent.

Ignore the weight comment! She has no right to impede or delay another motorist. It's in the highway code that a drivers actions must not inconvenience other road users. You were completely in the right. Don't give her a second thought, she's not worth it.

When my DM was alive and my dad took her out but there were no disabled spaces, he would drop her off at the door of wherever and then go and park where he could. Then do the same in reverse for leaving. Absolutely no reason this woman couldn't have done the same.

"Fat cunt" is the default insult of the total arse who uses it in every situation where they are being called out / asked to do something they don't want to. It has nothing to do with the looks of the person being insulted. Just an indication of the size of the brain that came up with it. Please don't let this arse ruin your day. Although I'm quite fond of the word cunt.
