To swim whilst menstruating?

So funny light hearted conversation with sister and friend Friday and totally random.
I swim every Friday evening with my other half and my dc.
My sister told me it was vile for me to swim whilst bleeding. My friend disagrees and said it fine.
I did go swimming as my period was pretty much over (day 5). Would I swim whilst heavy? I would say no I wouldn’t. Would you?
Sister says it’s not fair on others swimming and friend says she’s wouldn’t care. Are there actually any rules about it? Would you? Would a tamping be suitable if you did want to swim? I’m not sure about others but if I bath whilst using a tampon it will eventually fill up with water and expand rapidly! Confused or is it just me?? Would you swim during your period?

Bloody hell I hope no female swims whilst ovulating!! That’s the most active time for the vagina to discharge fluid that is not menstruated! All those swimming please refrain from ovulation Grin

I was completely under the impression that its not safe to wear a tampon when you're in that irritating bit where you've all but stopped but there's a slight brown tinge to your discharge. I don't even wear a pantyliner on those days, complete waste of plastic.

It's probably more gross for a woman to go swimming in the middle of her cycle when she's leaking gooey discharge. There's no way that doesn't get in the pool if discharge with a tinge of blood does!

OhNoes · 20/05/2018 22:04

Swimming pools are just gross anyway. Old blokes blowing their noses into their hands, kids peeing, women leaking various bodily fluids. Pubes and scabs floating around. I can't understand why anyone would want to swim in all that.

LardLizard · 20/05/2018 22:12

I bet all the people saying this is gross don’t shower before going in the pool

Just think how many toxins etc are on your skin !

Cannockcanring · 20/05/2018 22:18

I don’t like that the top couple of inches is mostly skin cells and oil!
What a strange thing to state as fact! I'm guessing you don't have any references for that....If there was a thick layer of oil, it would be clearly visible, wouldn't it? Likewise if there was a slurry of skin cells or any other solid floating at the top, or at any level, the water wouldn't be clear.
Your post has actually helped me see that the quantities of other stuff in the pool must be really very small (probably being filtered out effectively), or it would be visible.

LardLizard · 20/05/2018 22:22

How many of you also blow your children’s noses before they go in the pool or your own

Pools must also be full of boggies !!

Curiousaboutchoices · 20/05/2018 22:27

Yep bath tampon thing perfectly normal. Stretched birthing vag, it was one of the most horrifying things about childbirth to be honest.

Yes swim, change tsmpon before, change after. Can’t imagine anyone thinking it’s acceptable to swim whilst bleeding withoit a tampon though, that would be very weird.

Some people are funny with periods or have horrifically heavy ones so I guess it’s a personal choice.

awomensworkisneverdone · 20/05/2018 22:32

I have to agree with the personal choice thing. And using your own judgment.

I do but only at end of period after a shower. No worse than sweat or poo crumbs imo

awomensworkisneverdone · 20/05/2018 22:32

So what’s the purpose of chlorine in a pool if all this so called mess is gathering in the pool? I like to think chlorine has a purpose.

OP posts:
OhNoes · 20/05/2018 22:35

Chlorine kills germs, yes. But it doesn't do anything about all the stringy, snotty bits that are getting sucked towards the filters.

awomensworkisneverdone · 20/05/2018 22:36

Ah right ok.

If you are still bleeding wear a cocking tampon if you are not bleeding then you have finished your period.

Out of interest, how does slightly brown discharge fit into the above? I have one day of very very light bleeding (not nearly enough for a tampon, use a pantliner) and then a few days of very light brown spotting. Is the last day of my period the first day, or is it when any tinge of brown is gone?

LardLizard · 20/05/2018 22:44

Yes the snot just floats on the tooof the water usually after small children get in there jump around and a gallon of snot comes out of there noses

chavtasticfirebanger · 20/05/2018 22:47

A cocking tampon.
Mmmmm.......not sure what one of them's likeShock

chavtasticfirebanger · 20/05/2018 22:50

Just demonstrates that menstruation is still seen as dirty. Snotty noses, sweat, urine and faeces particles on unwashed undercarriages, atheletes feet, crusty toenails earwax and saliva.
Just periods seen as rank though.

FissionChips · 20/05/2018 22:50

I’m actually suprised there are not cock shaped tampons, theyd be a welcome novelty during the blob .

CountFosco · 20/05/2018 22:52

I swim with a fresh tampon when it's my period. Don't swim with a mooncup because water gets in it and after a 'mooncup runneth over' situation in the changing room I never swam with a mooncup again. I have had blood dripping down my legs after swimming with a tampon in which was mortifying (very heavy period due to peri-menopause filled the tampon during my 30 min swim). Accidents happen sometimes and at least blood is less offensive than pee or poo IMHO.

QueenCity · 20/05/2018 22:53

I don't swim when I have my period as they are very heavy and I fill a mooncup in about thirty minutes for the first couple of days. We are off to Florida in a fortnight and my period is due to arrive on the day we get there so I won't be swimming in the pool ☹️ I always get my period when we are away!

awomensworkisneverdone · 20/05/2018 23:02

And your a skank if you think otherwise Grin

I bleed in the bath if I forget a tampon

Londonbum · 20/05/2018 23:04

Out of probably misplaced interest, what do people think will actually happen to them if they swim into some menstrual blood?

chavtasticfirebanger · 20/05/2018 23:11

Dunno london might get AIDS or summat

FissionChips · 20/05/2018 23:11

Googled and there are no penis shaped tampons Sad. There is , however, a phallus shaped mansion. Here are the floor plans ..
