Where was your best ever holiday?

Where did you have your best ever holiday? I think mine would have to be the Canadian Rockies during the summer (weather was amazing and the scenery is like nothing else).

A week in our caravan in the lake district, we go away all the time in it but that week was amazing, great weather, lovely walks, long evening's with a bbq and wine.

It's the only holiday that's had me in tears as we left, it's also the only holiday without tv or Wi-Fi.

Hawaii, specifically Kauai and the Big Island. We went last June, with what’s happening on the Big Island now I’m glad it’s not this June! We’d go back to Kauai in an instant.

Melbourne, Australia in 1997. I was 26 and met my dad who'd moved back out when I was 3, for the first time. Magical, the country and the special time. Even now long after his death, I'd move there like a shot (if it worked for everyone else of course!).

Barry island 1974, have travelled around the world to all sorts of exotic locations since but that week was still the best ...george McGrae at no1 with rock your baby, Lulu covering David bowies the man who sold the world, nixon getting impeached, happy days!

Just remembered another couple. The Isle of Wight in the glorious summer of 1976, camping with 7 other 17 year olds. We had an absolute ball.

The island of Sark. So unspoilt. We loved it so much the first time we went back twice after that.

Three weeks in Québec during the winter with the absolute highlight being the Winter Carnaval in Québec City.

It was like being in a fairytale. It looked so magical. The beautiful sculptures. It was like another world.

Cuba. 4 days in Havana, 6 on the beach. Wish I'd done it the other way round and done 6 days in Havana.

Also Capri. It was a very short few days at the end of a trip to sorrento but at night, when all the day trippers go home, the island is magical.

Pangkor laut

I can't pick just one, so have chosen 2: last year we went to Thailand and travelled round for 3 weeks with our 2 DS (both 15 then). Camped in the jungle, went to an ethical elephant camp, lazed on the beach, stayed some amazing places and best of all... hired long tail boat lots of times to take us out on the sea for snorkelling. We organised it ourselves as didn't want anyone with us. Amazing.

Three years ago we went to rural Southern China for 3 weeks and did a really long hike with mules through Tiger Leaping Gorge (on our own not organised). Went to ShangriLa, Dali, loads of other places. Our 2DS were 13 and absolutely loved it although we had some scary moments.

Don't remind me of Japan... highly recommended!

Mid Wales a few years ago.

Safari in the Masai Mara during the great migration. Heart rending to see the survival of the fittest but memories of big skies, rainbows of butterflies and life in the raw. Followed by a week in Zanzibar, then a few days in a desert resort in Dubai.

Walking on the wild wall, the non-tourist bits of the Great Wall for China, for three days with four friends and 2 DS, 12 and 13. Stayed in a farmhouse in a Han village. I've been to 50+ countries and this was the best. Mind blowing....
