Where was your best ever holiday?

Where did you have your best ever holiday? I think mine would have to be the Canadian Rockies during the summer (weather was amazing and the scenery is like nothing else).

Corfu was probably the best holiday. We hired a speedboat for the whole time and just powered our way around the island, pulling into little harbours for food and wine before anchoring up off the coast for sex and sleep!

Sardinia was also memorable as we hired a car and just toured the island with no prebooked accommodation. We almost had to sleep in the car one night but managed to find a b&b at 11pm a time night. When we woke in the morning we had amazing views over the emerald coast and the best breakfast ever where our host had made her own marmalade and bread.

The only awful holiday we’ve had was Malta. Hated it.

We went from Manchester to Hong Kong by train before we had kids. I'd love to do it again when they're a bit older. Lots of great memories of countries we stopped off at.

isseywithcats · 20/05/2018 13:51

Barbados loved it and wish i could afford to go back

LoniceraJaponica · 20/05/2018 13:54

Wow Nomad. I would love to do that.

My dad used to organise rail trips, and I remember as a teenager doing Scandinavia, and ending up in Leningrad (yes, it was that long ago).

Domino20 · 20/05/2018 13:58

Easy. Mexio, it's got everything I need from a holiday. Ancient cultures, ruins/monuments. Fabulous museums awesome beaches and food, GREAT people and the absolute cherry on the cake? Grey Whales that like to meet people and be stroked and petted. I fucking love Mexico 😁

Tilliebean · 20/05/2018 14:05

Marrakesh and surrounds- amazing place with amazing food!
Three weeks touring New Zealand- hiking, wine tasting and just exploring! Probably my favourite holiday if forced to pick.
Also adore Stockholm!

Lonicera

My DH is a huge train geek so most of our holidays involve trekking around different countries by railway, stopping off wherever looks interesting. He's looking forward to the kids being old enough for sleeper trains. Unfortunately, my DS is turning into a train geek too so I think it'll just get worse!

It's really hard to pick but I'd probably say Sri Lanka. Stunning country and wonderful people. We loved it there

Kenya and Disney world Florida both come a close second. We loved both but for very different reasons! We went to Disney before we had dc's and just loved it. I'd love to go back but it's unfortunate out of our price range now but it's definitely one we'll repeat in the future.

Mine was an Ayia Napa party holiday with my best friend when I was 20 (I know I know! Blush). But it was more a combination of what was going on in my life at the time, what I was coming out of and just about to go into. It was the most carefree, fun, and exciting holiday I have I ever had. I was young, beautiful and loving life. My friend and I reminisce about it occasionally Smile

IHaveBrilloHair · 20/05/2018 14:19

Senggigi/Gili islands, Indonesia.

A Transatlantic Cruise. No WiFi, no phone, in the middle of that huge ocean. Felt like a true adventure.

pandarific · 20/05/2018 14:27

DH and I had a lovely one in Crete last year. Gorgeous all inclusive hotel which had a champagne bar, a creperie, a cocktail bar, waiter service by the pool...

Come 11:30 in the morning we were half-cut, and utterly clattered after lunch, whereupon we spent the whole day a bit pissed, exploring the grounds etc. Was EXCELLENT.

userabcname · 20/05/2018 14:35

Had a lovely holiday with my mum at an all inclusive hotel in Turkey a few years ago - it was fabulous.

A holiday with my friends to Disneyland Paris is also high on the list - we had a great time re-living our childhoods. I'm looking forward to taking DS when he's old enough to understand and enjoy it!

ImogenTubbs · 20/05/2018 14:36

Had a brilliant fortnight doing the Pacific Coast highway in California, but also our honeymoon in Cape Town and Namibia was awesome.

GinUser · 20/05/2018 14:43

Last minute to Tobago, but also loved Kenya and am a repeat visitor to Sri Lanka.

AliasGrape · 20/05/2018 14:43

Travelling round Cuba with my good friend. Amazing. A Greek island with group of friends, don’t want to say name as it’s hugely outing, but think tiny, no vehicles, get water from the well type place. Beautiful and peaceful.

With DP kefalonia was wonderful, hired a car and went all over, hired little boats and went out for days with picnics of bread, feta, olives and mythos beers, just lovely. We’ve had some amazing mini breaks to York too, it’s become a very special place for us.

Currywurstmitpommes · 20/05/2018 15:40

Just floated round the bay on a lilo... aMenorca is now definitely at no. 1 ( post kids)

Mouikey · 20/05/2018 17:12

Many an amazing holiday but the best was in 2015 when we did a Foo Fighters holiday. We followed a couple of songs on the sonic highways album and drove from New Orleans via Natchez, Clarkesdale, Memphis, Nashville, Gatlinburg, Alexandria to Washington DC - culminated with seeing the Foos on their anniversary on 4 July (when Dave premiered the amazing throne!!!).

He broke his leg the day we departed, but it all was good!

Met the most amazing people, saw amazing sites, stayed in wonderful hotels and B&Bs and heard such an eclectic range of music - we came back loving country having been to the Opry.

HellenaHandbasket · 20/05/2018 17:13

Cruising the Ionian bareboat

Pootle40 · 20/05/2018 17:14

Difficult one but think it would have to be our cruise through Alaska

bunce · 20/05/2018 17:19

A working holiday to Curacao was fun - great scuba and fishing. A couple of years ago we rented a villa in San Stefanos Corfu for a couple of weeks with infinity pool. Lazy days some walking and historical sites and evenings sat on the patio looking out to sea.

We have also enjoyed a few static caravan holidays when the kids were smaller.

Tobebythesea · 20/05/2018 17:33

Maldives - the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.

Florida, Disneyworld was the most fun.

Minniemountain · 20/05/2018 18:10

Walking in the Lake District one May. It was the holiday that really got me into walking. Everything was perfect, even down to the first rain all week starting just as we left.

Sleepyblueocean · 20/05/2018 18:27

Rome and the highlands and Islands of Scotland. Since ds was born days out in the Lake District.

namechangedasimaguider · 20/05/2018 18:41

With the dc, camping on the Ross of Mull - right on the beach with views across to Iona. Beach bbqs, fishing from our boat, seal watching ,hiking to Eraid at low tide, seeing an otter playing 10ft away- absolutely wonderful. Kids went completely feral for 3 weeks.

Post kids, caravaning in the Tarn region of France. We spent almost every day geocaching- sometimes a 4 hour walk in wild country to find some of the most spectacular cache locations ever.
With the grandkids- seaside in Brittany, rock pools, paddling, sandcastles.

The simple pleasures are often the best.
