Seems particularly to affect those who are keen on the whole shebang.

Don’t you mean effect, OP...?

halfwitpicker · 19/05/2018 19:29

Say wad?

No, I decidedly don't, RoseWhiteTips.

Effect = noun
Affect = verb

'Affect' can be used in psychology/psychoanalysis as a noun, but is otherwise uncommon. Just in case you wondered.

No, Rose, OP's right with 'affect'.

But I do get very, very tired of the smug SPAG-correctors on here, who respond to a heartfelt post with a gleeful slapping-down. There was someone on a thread today who couldn't wait to correct an OP's spelling of 'cello'. Bad manners, bad form. And I say that as a language professional.

Well my grandma would have loved it. Lots to moan about (she was never happy unless she was moankng about something).

Nanny0gg · 19/05/2018 19:43

I have a feeling Rose was joking...

Nah. You're being too kind there. Any excuse to drag someone down is our Rose.

FirstOfHerName · 19/05/2018 19:46

But she's a teacher isn't she? It varies from week to week it seems.

MongerTruffle · 19/05/2018 19:47

Effect = noun
Affect = verb

The other exception is "The change was effected."

WhatAMessTheBad · 19/05/2018 19:47

Grammar is not a joking matter.

Agree, generally, that it's bad manners to wade in and correct other posters' grammar, though. Even if it is slightly too tempting sometimes...

WhatAMessTheBad · 19/05/2018 19:50

Quite right, MongerTruffle. "The change was affected (which would give rise to further grammatical awfulness) would mean something very different!

Rose is a teacher? No idea. Are you getting her confused with the other direct poster who is a teacher?
