Looking for inspiration!

We always keep the following:

Pasta/couscous/rice
Bag of chargrilled veg in freezer
Pesto in freezer
Part baked bread
Halloumi
Tinned tomatoes
Frozen onions

And a load of batch cooked meals! What do you keep and what do you cook with them?

Frozen onions - because I can't cope with streaming eyes.
Also got bag of chargrilled veg in the freezer too.

Tinned chickpeas - versatile enough to add extra protein to a sauce, make houmous (I haven't done that yet) or roast with paprika and cumin and lemon juice.
Tinned tomatoes
Pasta

I only really did a lot of batch cooking just before I had a baby. Lots of spag Bol and chilli but I also do like freezer dump bags for slow cookers. Now I'm feeling inspired, shame I've already done the meal plan and list!

Passportto · 18/05/2018 18:12

Ooh, what a dump bag fora slower cooker?

My go to quick and easy is "Carbonara" (not authenic at all) pasta mixed with whatever veg we have and ham or tinned salmon and creme fraiche

Passportto · 18/05/2018 18:13

*creme fraiche and parmesan

Mammalamb · 18/05/2018 18:13

What are freezer dump bags? We got a slow cooker as an engagement present 15 years ago and still haven’t used it!!

Miso paste and straight to wok noodles for a quick chicken noodle dish.
Ikea meatballs to add to pasta/cous cous/scoff on their own if it's just me

Mammalamb · 18/05/2018 18:24

Do they do veggie meatballs? I’ve never used miso paste!

Joinourclub · 18/05/2018 18:25

Red lentils for dal

Almondio · 18/05/2018 18:30

Frozen fish fillets, stick some pesto and breadcrumbs on top and bake for a short time. Serve with veg or rice.

Or put fish in a shallow dish with a dollop of creme fraiche/cream cheese, some mash or sweet potato mash on top, plenty of ground pepper and some frozen peas/sweetcorn for a very quick fish pie type thing.

FairyPenguin · 18/05/2018 18:30

We also have prawns in the freezer as they defrost really quickly in cold water. Can use those to go with pasta or rice or noodles. Or fajitas.

We always have wraps - can make fajitas or quesadillas. Always have cheese in the fridge.

Also eggs, plain flour and milk. For pancakes.

I also have miso paste and tinned tomatoes.

Ooh I do a nice pasta recipe with anchovies, capers, olives and tinned tomatoes. All store cupboard ingredients and really tasty.

Pancetta keeps ages in the fridge. With onion, eggs and Parmesan to make a carbonara.

FairyPenguin · 18/05/2018 18:31

Miso paste and dried noodles, with salmon or prawns or tofu makes a lovely noodle soup.

unicorn56 · 18/05/2018 18:34

Risotto Rice (as long as you have stock cubes you can just make risotto with any leftovers you have, one of my go to is cheese and pea). Also in the freezer I keep these salmon encroute style pastry things (can be found in the freezer section of the supermarket near the fishcakes).

Mammalamb · 18/05/2018 18:35

Are frozen prawns as good as fresh prawns? I’ve never tried them!

Mammalamb · 18/05/2018 18:35

Almondio; that fish pie sounds good

Gnocchi, frozen peas, pesto and mozzarella. Dinner done in fifteen minutes Grin

Ollivander84 · 18/05/2018 18:40

Eggs - omelettes!
Merchant gourmet mixed grains - for with fish and veg or a salad
Cheese - well.. it tastes nice Grin
Frozen jacket potatoes
Creme fraiche - fry off pancetta, add garlic if you want, dump creme fraiche and grated cheese in, stir. Makes pasta sauce
Tinned tomatoes - for pasta sauce, or for with scrambled eggs or on toast
Tinned fruit

MrsFezziwig · 18/05/2018 18:42

IKEA will sell you their meatballs? Shock

MsVestibule · 18/05/2018 18:43

Can you freeze fresh pesto, then? I make my own and keep it in the fridge for a couple of weeks, but didn't realise you could freeze it.

We bulk buy tortellini and arrabiatta sauce and feeeze that. Takes a few minutes to defrost and a few minutes to cook. Delicious with a load of parmesan cheese and garlic bread!

RosaRosaRose · 18/05/2018 18:50

Store cupboard: rice, pasta, corn, chick peas, pulses, tuna, anchovies, dried chilli.
Freezer: raw or frozen prawns, batch cooked meals, fish fillets, raspberries, sliced sour dough bread Grin for fancy cheese on toast or plain tomatoes. (love tomatoes on toast.
Not a single idea what I'm cooking tonight!
Out of ideas, so any suggestion welcome!

MikeUniformMike · 18/05/2018 18:51

Takeaway menu.

snickledon · 18/05/2018 18:56

@MrsFezziwig yup in giant bags in the freezer section and they are microwaveable 😀 their frozen rostis aren't bad either for when I'm too lazy to make them myself

You’re all dead posh! Mine is muesli and crunchy nut cornflakes 😭😂 I only cook proper food when DH comes out to see me so to save waste I practically live off cheese sandwiches and cereal.
