17 year ds has come back miserable and is saying he doesn't want to leave the house or go to college until its grown. He asked for a skin fade back and sides and well its practically bald.

Personally I'd not put much faith in my DS communicating his requirements correctly and if he was mine the hairdress would have to make it up after a few grunts. I'd tell him it looks great, I wouldn't complain to the hairdresser, I'd leave him with no uncertainty that short hair is not a reason to be abscent from college and his backside will be out the door on Monday.

He may well not have been clear how he wanted it done. Those haorcuts can be anythign from almost bald to a simply very short. They can be just round the sides with long on top or high fade with short on top. It really depneds what he actually asked for.

I'd tell him it looks cool and thst anyway it'll grow fast and leave it at that

He's 17, if he has a compliant he should have said it himself when he was there. I know you care, but he's practically an adult, he has to be able to fight his own battles otherwise he won't have the confidence to if you keep doing it for him.
Also, as an almost adult something like his hair simply cannot affect his college, he couldn't tell work he wants coming because he doesn't like his new haircut.
Maybe use this as a learning experience. Not a nice one, but something we all learn at some point.

A skin fade is practically bald, though. Tell him to take a picture next time.
