To tell him the tooth fairy isn't real?

DS aged 7 years has just asked me to answer him honestly about whether the tooth fairy really exists. He wants to know if it is his DD or myself putting the money in the special envelope.

I know if he asks me for the truth I should give it to him but he seems so young!

What are your thoughts?

Have you said "hang on a sec darling mummy needs to frantically ask MN check something" Grin

DS1 is older now but around that age he asked about the TF because he was entirely creeped out at the thought of anyone entering his room while he slept and meddling about under his pillow.

I was honest and said that it was an old tradition that lots of people used to make their child's passage from childhood to adulthood more special. He never once asked about it again (I reckon my answer bored him too much to ever repeat the conversation).

Yes sneaky!! I distracted him and whipped out my phone!

If he's asking he probably already knows the truth. The tooth fairy is not like Santa - I think most kids suspect it's not real from the start.

I have this covered with mine - I played the tooth fairy in a Panto once so yes, I am the tooth fairy! I'd tell them the truth tbh. Better that than they work out you lied.

I told my DD at 6 that Santa wasn’t real because she asked for an honest answer. She has been fine, still lives Xmas and enjoys imagining Santa is coming. We do it all the same as we’d do if she didn’t know as does she.

I said 'oh no not another tooth gone, I'm out of pound coins' Blush.

They DC 7&8yo still get money and a note from the TF, but they know it's me now. It just isn't mentioned Grin.

What- not real? Is the OP the one who doubted the existence of the Wombles?
