King Charles and Queen Camilla

AIBU to wonder why so many people seem to think this will not happen?

I can understand why a lot of people abroad seem to think it’s likely that Prince Charles will just hand over the crown straight to William because he’s younger and more popular. Most countries don’t have royal families, and in some European monarchies routine abdication is something that actually happens.

But I was reading some of the completely mental royal wedding threads on here and was surprised by the number of similar comments. I particularly enjoyed one Daily Express reader’s person’s comment about how the public would never accept Camilla as queen.

I don’t think most people give a shiny shit whether Camilla is Queen or not, but those that do have an issue with it will have to get used to the idea. Prince Charles didn’t have to give up his place in the line of succession when he married her, therefore unless the Queen outlives Charles, he will be king and Camilla will be queen!

I care if Camilla is lazy. She represents us at home and abroad. She couldn't even do the full visit to Australia recently
She loves the jewels that go with the job though.
I'm a royalist but I get why people are turning against them.

TheCriminalMind · 16/05/2018 12:41

I have no problem with Camilla (in fact, I like her and her work) and I think Charles would make a good king.
I don’t think William would want the crown yet actually, I feel like him and Catherine quite like their life as it is.

TossDaily · 16/05/2018 12:42

Lazy?

Camilla's 71 this year! I bloody hope I'm a lazy cow by then, as well!

Sunnymeg · 16/05/2018 12:46

@BalloonSlayer It was believed that Camilla wasn't a virgin, that was the reason she was unsuitable. The future King had to marry a virgin bride, it was a prerequisite.

CanIBuffalo · 16/05/2018 12:46

I don't think he'll pass in favour of William. Why put that burden/privilege on someone you love while they're a father to young kids? He'd be kinder to his son to take that on for as long as he can.

Your taxes are providing well for this lazy mare. Hasn't worked a day in her life. Her job was ingratiating herself with Charles and great blowjobs.
The fags and booze will kill her off soon anyway.

diddl · 16/05/2018 12:49

" The future King had to marry a virgin bride, it was a prerequisite."

Said who, I wonder?

Hard to believe that were talking about the 20th century, isn't it?

crunchymint · 16/05/2018 12:50

Princess Diana had a medical check up to confirm she was a virgin.

LaurieMarlow · 16/05/2018 12:51

Diana broke the rules. She knew what they were.

Oh yes, 'the rules' whereby your spoiled royal husband can shag who he likes while you're supposed to turn a blind eye, smile for the cameras and push out the babies.

What a bitch she was for not playing along with that. Hmm

She gave interviews & aired their dirty linen in public.

Only after the marriage had broken down completely. And why should she protect Charles indiscretions? The royals always seem to think they're the only ones who matter.

QueenoftheBlitz

Anyone who's had Charles' cock in their mouth deserves all the compo they can get, imo.

Yuk.

LoveInTokyo · 16/05/2018 12:54

Oh Jesus, TossDaily, no one needed to read that!

Shock

" Hasn't worked a day in her life."

Probably not the only one of her generation & upbringing.

It's pretty applicable to Kate also.

Butterymuffin · 16/05/2018 12:55

Toss Don't post things like that at lunchtime!

Queenoftheblitz · 16/05/2018 12:56

Agree Laurie. Charles was the first to go public about his affair. He didn't warn either woman what he was going to say. Another example of his selfishness.

SerenDippitty · 16/05/2018 12:56

Prince Charles should step aside & let William be King, I don’t think he will, he comes across as a very selfish man & his wife should never be called Queen, just my opinion, not that it matters to anyone
So wanting to do his duty is selfish?

William is nowhere near ready to be king if you ask me

Queenoftheblitz · 16/05/2018 12:57

Ha ha yeah I guess she's earned those gems.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 16/05/2018 12:59

Charles is far better equipped for the role.

Queen will be her title regardless of her choosing to use it but to be honest I think she should.

thecatsthecats · 16/05/2018 13:05

I find it hard to square the conflicting idea that:

  1. Some people wholeheartedly accept the institution of the Monarchy as valid - i.e. inherited divine/whatever right.
  2. The same people thinking that their personal opinions of the relationship between the heir to the throne and his lawfully wedded wife and his previous wife should have any influence on the former.

I mean, those two positions can't logically coexist, right?

Then I have a little giggle internally at how the fuck these people would have coped under the reign of Henry VIII.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 16/05/2018 13:11

Kate has a degree, has worked for her family business and worked as a fashion buyer for clothing company Jogsaw. I'm going to stake a month's mortgage that she has worked at least one day in her life, possibly a whole week. Grin

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 16/05/2018 13:11

*Jigsaw.

Jogsaw is prob a sportswear company!

diddl · 16/05/2018 13:13

If PC wanted to marry Camilla & she was set on APB, chances are whoever he had married it wouldn't have worked/been happy-unless they were willing for him to have mistress/es.

Perhaps he should have stayed single?

Problem there being it would have put Andrew next after him.

They can. It happened with Edward 8th who was forced to abdicate. The government said the public wouldn't accept the marriage although thats debateable.
The royals are no longer a total power, they evolve and are more accountable to the public.
I am not campaigning the government to block Camilla. My view is a moral one and I won't be waving a flag when she is crowned.
I think C and C will be on the throne a max of 10 years before Charles dies and William will reignite interest in the throne.

ILikeMyChickenFried · 16/05/2018 13:18

If by "reignite interest" you mean further campaigning for a republic then I agree with you!

SenecaFalls · 16/05/2018 13:21

The title King/Queen of England technically disappeared with the Act of Union as did the title King of Scots.

It's actually unusual for a monarch to choose a regnal name different from the one he or she was known by prior to accession. George VI did it to create continuity with his father's reign after the abdication. Edward VII changed his slightly (he had been Albert Edward). Supposedly Charles did once float the idea of being George to please his grandmother, but I think when the day comes, he will be Charles III.

JamieVardysHavingAParty · 16/05/2018 13:25

What a delicious thought.
