Nope, I think IANBU, but I would still love your recipes.

Our kids love slightly spiced chilli in a potato with cheese on top. Another would be to make loaded potato skins where you scoop the potato out of the jacket, mash it with cheese, spring onion & bacon pop back into the empty skins and grill with a small bit of cheese on top :)

blueskyinmarch · 15/05/2018 21:49

No - don't go away. This is intriguing and may open up a lot of new baked potato possibilities.

Ginkypig · 15/05/2018 21:51

Ooh this sounds like a new way to have a baked potato!

Confusedwife don't be embarrassed!

Post your typical recipe and others will then post theirs ok.

ProseccoPoppy · 15/05/2018 21:51

Ooh I’d now like to try a jacket potato with dip - reckon my toddler DD would be a big fan (she loves dips). What do you find works best OP? I can imagine guacamole working. Or a curried mayo like in coronation chicken perhaps.

theycallmebabydriver · 15/05/2018 21:51

Enquiring on behalf of this native English speaker - What's wrong with the word kiddies?! My dad referred to us as kiddies or kiddiwinkies as far back as I can remember and I was born in 1982

BeBesideTheSea · 15/05/2018 21:52

One of the recipes I found on google had baby potato’s that were baked - looks delicious

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 15/05/2018 21:52

@ConfusedWife1234 How many of us are posting in our non-native language about a different culinary habit? Not many Wink So you'd better come back out of hiding to even things up a bit!

Quite interested about the idea of jacket potatoes with dips - it's just not how we eat them over here at all! A jp is one of those dishes you just generally mash all of it together before you start eating (or maybe that's just my DC).

I stand by my seasoning technique, however.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2018 21:53

I love them topped with baked beans and corned beef. Delicious. I love baked potatoes. Never thought of having a dip (and I live in Germany!) - I think that would go well when having the potatoes as a side dish.

BertieBotts · 15/05/2018 21:53

I struggle to find large potatoes to bake here.

Rainydaydog · 15/05/2018 21:54

By the way OP a lot of English people do say Kiddies for little children. Only on MN we are not allowed any slightly twee slang.

mummabearfoyrbabybears · 15/05/2018 21:54

Wasn't a weird question to me then realised you're German. Spent 10 wonderful years there as an army wife. I'm still annoyed I can't buy chip salt (pommes frites salz?) here. My kids love sour cream and chive dip with their baked potatoes Grin

ConfusedWife1234 · 15/05/2018 21:55

besides the sea My favorite recipe:

Baked potatoe with Salmon and spring dip

One needs:

A baked potatoe, cooked salmon

And for the dip:
Curd cheese
Spring onions
Radish
Oil
And cold eggs

Chop spring onions, radish and eggs, mix with rest of the indigrients. Enjoy.

How funny - I lived a long time in France and Belgium and it’s not a thing there at all!

I make a Greek dip for my son for pita bread strips that he loves called Htipiti, which is roasted peppers, feta cheese, chilli flakes and olive oil. I bet that would be nice with baked potato?

ConfusedWife1234 · 15/05/2018 21:56

Mummybear Oh, you can make your own CjipsSalt by the way. Want a recipe?

PurpleDaisies · 15/05/2018 21:57

Yes yes yes to chipsalt recipe!

Joinourclub · 15/05/2018 21:58

theycallmebabydriver some people of mumsnet find 'kiddies' makes them shudder and sniff because it's 'common'. "A goat has kids, a woman has children".

EnglishGirlApproximately · 15/05/2018 22:01

Well I came on wondering what a baked potato with dip was all about and now I’m loving the sound of that recipe. I only ever really have cheese on mine so they’re boring but I’m well up for trying to make them more interesting! Off to google baked potato dip recipes...

nursy1 · 15/05/2018 22:03

Just butter and marmite, melted in. Mmmmmm

ConfusedWife1234 · 15/05/2018 22:03

Chips Salt

One needs:

10 Spoons of Salt
3 Spoons of Sugar, Germans say everything that has ask needs a little sugar and everything that has sugar needs a little salt
3 spoons of mild bell pepper powder
1 spoon of hot bell pepper powder
1 spoon of Indian curry powder

Mix

I’m going to try that out with my kids

ScrubTheDecks · 15/05/2018 22:05

Oooh, thank you, I have googled bakkartoffel mit dip (images) and Germany certainly does delicious things with a spud!

Smoked mackerel mashed with sour cream and horseradish?

MumofBoysx2 · 15/05/2018 22:06

What's wrong with 'kiddies' I use that too, what about sour cream and chive, or paprika mayonnaise?

MumofBoysx2 · 15/05/2018 22:06

OMG the smoked mackerel sounds delish! Definitely going to try that myself!

Minisoksmakehardwork · 15/05/2018 22:08

I love a jacket potato with bbq chicken or bbq pulled pork. Both meats cooked in bbq sauce, large blob of butter on potato and meat/sauce on top. Yummmm

LRDtheFeministDragon · 15/05/2018 22:08

Oh, this thread is making me hungry!

I usually have mine with beans and cheese because I'm a traditionalist, but a friend of mine would do this. Children love it; your arteries don't:

Bake the potato, then split in half, spoon out the fluffy insides, and put in a bowl. Mix with equal parts grated cheddar and soft cheese, finely chopped spring onions, and a spoon of double cream. Scoop back into the potato skins and re-bake for 20 minutes.

She served it with melted butter and bacon bits, but I am not Texan not hardcore enough for that much fat, and I like it as it is.
