to wonder if bank staff can access your accounts?

Of their own accord (not assisting you in any capacity)?

My ex now works at my main bank, as far as I know at a customer call centre and not in branch. He’s quite obsessive and knows I bank with this company. I’m concerned that he could search for my account and bring up my details, including my new contact information/address alongside my financial information (which would also show him where I now work and my salary.)

Please tell me I’m being silly and he cannot simply access my account without my authorisation?

Question:

If you were told that a family member who worked for a bank had accessed one of your accounts, and your mother's account, without permission, what would you do? I have been struggling with this question for 18 months. My privacy feels violated but if I complain to the bank then she will know it was me.

Butterymuffin · 14/05/2018 13:21

twitter I'd complain. As pp have said, it's made very clear that staff should not do this. They have got themselves into trouble, not you.

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 14/05/2018 13:51

I would absolutely complain twitterflitter! Even if she finds out it was you, so what? She is the one in the wrong for doing something so wrong.

It's not easy to check & normal bank staff don't have access to audits but not difficult for IT to pull the information

Melliegrantfirstlady · 14/05/2018 21:10

More responses needed on what to do if you believe employees are checking on your account when it is a family member?!

Helpmeplan · 14/05/2018 21:13

Complain and move your account

ny20005 · 14/05/2018 21:36

@Melliegrantfirstlady

You'd have to work out if the risk of family member finding out (& accessing complaint) was worth it

Same as customers who are victims of fraud due to a family member - bank only hells if they prosecute them. It's rock & hard place stuff

Melliegrantfirstlady · 14/05/2018 21:45

So I couldn’t ring them and ask them if a certain employee had accessed my account?

I strongly suspect this person is. Well 80% certain! I’d hate to start a family war though

Blondebombsite83 · 14/05/2018 21:55

I worked at said bank. He can access any account at any time and it would only be noticed if you complained. They access hundreds of accounts a day-no one is keeping track.

Helpmeplan · 15/05/2018 06:35

If a complaint was made the family member would be suspended until the investigation was complete, their work colleagues foot prints on the account checked as they would be under suspician too. The family member would not have access to the complaint.

stopfuckingshoutingatme · 15/05/2018 06:40

I would change bank accounts given what PP said . You don’t want him sacked presumably (I refer to money not his well-being !)

stressedoutpa · 15/05/2018 06:43

Yes, XP's friend did this then told him. He was more than pissed off.

I would change banks.
