So I've begun a course and I want to not end up on crime watch and I'm not sure what's legal or just cheeky fuckery

Bugger. Posted too soon

ShesAYamEater · 13/05/2018 21:16

a course on what?

OvergroundWomblingFree · 13/05/2018 21:16

I want to nick flowers and foliage

What's the etiquette for this?

Do I knock and ask? Snip and run?

MeanTangerine · 13/05/2018 21:19

Do you have to steal it or is it OK with the course if you ask nicely?

Stealing is stealing. I guess you'd have to live in quite a sleepy area for theft of a daffodil to get on Crimewatch, but it's still shit for the poor sod who carefully cultivated the plants...

OvergroundWomblingFree · 13/05/2018 21:21

I believe whether I steal or not isn't part of the course curriculum.

But I am skint.

Do florists chuck out at the end of the day ever? Would befriending one be an option?

Why do you have to steal stuff and not just buy them or grow from seed? It’s beyond CF and just plain theft. Yes it is illegal and yes you could be prosecuted.

FASH84 · 13/05/2018 21:23

Or buy your flowers.. Aldi are very cheap for this and if you ask a friendly member of staff they'll tell you when they put out their daily fresh flower delivery (my local has a few of us regulars). I work really hard on my garden and growing pretty things, it didn't happen by accident and costs money. I'd be super pissed off if someone came along and snipped away at my roses or peonies. If you asked I'd say no and think you're a CF. FWIW I grow flowers so I can look at them and cut them if/when I want to for my own arrangements, I know others with the same hobby who do the same.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/05/2018 21:24

An absolute arsehole stole poppy heads from our garden. All of them so we couldn't regrow them. We would have shared if asked.

Please don't steal.

lilcolibri · 13/05/2018 21:24

I'd just not get caught

maybe wear a hoodie!

UpstartCrow · 13/05/2018 21:26

You are like the anti Womble Grin
If the local florists and supermarkets wont put out, hang around cemeteries at the end of the day.

OvergroundWomblingFree · 13/05/2018 21:27

No garden to grow. Very very skint atm.

I will try to buy some... But food trumps flowers.

If I walk through a park, is that stealing?

Or should I just resign myself to being alternative and creating arrangements from dandelions and nettles?

OP posts:
MeanTangerine · 13/05/2018 21:29

Is there any possibility you could cultivate a relationship with someone with a fairly floral garden, get them to agree to giving you flowers, and in return you give them the arrangement after the class?

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/05/2018 21:31

If I walk through a park, is that stealing?

Of course it is.

Find a local resource. Offer gardening labour to an OAP or someone with disabilities in exchange for flowers, volunteer at the church. Do something that isn't making other people's lives slightly worse.

I'm normally not so joyless but it's pretty crappy to nick things that other people use to make their lives nicer.

OvergroundWomblingFree · 13/05/2018 21:34

@MeanTangerine I'd be quite happy with that arrangement however I don't actually know anyone well enough to ask as most people I know near me live in flats.

I was thinking of knocking on a pretty garden door and suggesting as such but if it's major cheeky fuckery I don't want to suddenly become known as the crazy lady

TinWhistleTunes · 13/05/2018 21:36

I really like the idea of creating things out of "weeds" and things that you find in hedges or by the side of the road. This might also create some interesting discussion. Would it work?

WishTheGroundWouldSwallowMeUp · 13/05/2018 21:36

go to Sainsburys/tesco just before closing or 11ish if 24 hour, look for the discounted flowers or ones that the stems are clearly dry on with maybe one flower wilting, and ask if you can get some money off, they will probably tell you to just take them, because 1. it means fathing about with the till and 2. they get binned later anyway.

Crispbutty · 13/05/2018 21:37

Go to your local crematorium and ask what they do with flowers after a service. Many will just be destroying them.

Namethecat · 13/05/2018 21:37

Parents gardens, friends, ask around at work,in the pub etc. Or suggest a few hours work in a garden for a few flowers. The sneaking around Parks pinching the flowers takes away the enjoyment for others ( I get angry when I see small children with a handful in a park) is not the thing to do.

bellanotte22 · 13/05/2018 21:38

Don't steal other people's flowers. That would be so horrid.

listsandbudgets · 13/05/2018 21:40

Go to a nearby supermarket. Find a friendly member of staff. Explain amd ask of they might be able to let you sometimes have some of the previous days flowers for a low price or free. They may be willing to come to an arrangement to help you.

NameChangeCuzImAHorriblePerson · 13/05/2018 21:40

Wtf is the course you're doing that requires you to steal flowers?!

betterbemoreorganised · 13/05/2018 21:41

Freecycle or freeagle with an explanation about why you need the flowers

SnookieSnooks · 13/05/2018 21:42

You’ll be fine; Crimewatch has been axed.

OvergroundWomblingFree · 13/05/2018 21:43

Some good tips here.

FWIW - I am trying to avoid ruining anyone's happiness. Slightly tongue in cheek when I ask for guidance on stealing

Stealing isn't part of the course curriculum.

I didn't realise signing up that I would need to provide my own flowers. Of course it makes perfect sense but I just hadn't thought that far ahead and have now committed to an extra weekly expense when I'm on the breadline as it is
