So I've begun a course and I want to not end up on crime watch and I'm not sure what's legal or just cheeky fuckery

I'm in South Fulham. 😆

I would ask some old people homes/hospices. Say that you're training to be a florist and you'd like to use their flowers to make displays to go back inside. They can only say no.

For anyone to agree it's almost got to be a trade for a bouquet or similar which means you need the bulk to come from one place.

But I do think there's mileage in posting on local Facebook or Freecycle. I wouldn't give you my precious peonies for example but would have tons of lavender, rosemary, lilac, sweet peas and bags of foilage.

I hope you can get enough. Ignore the carping about whether you should be doing it. Why the hell shouldn't you. Good luck

The course tutor is highly likely to be a florist - they can advise you the most economical way of buying what you need and might be able to provide things at cost price. Plus you can probably buddy up with someone on the course so that you take it in turns to buy or split things between you. Someone on the course probably has a garden and can help provide foliage.

An absolute arsehole stole poppy heads from our garden. All of them so we couldn't regrow them. We would have shared if asked.

Please don't steal.

You know why poppy heads are so attractive to thieves, right?

Alienspaceship · 14/05/2018 12:06

I love gardening, it’s my hobby and relaxation time. It’s also expensive. Fuck off op, fund your own hobby. Stealing is not acceptable.

UpstartCrow · 14/05/2018 13:08

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam Yes because idiots think if they smoke them they'll get high.
Thieves are the reason I no longer have a unique strain of poppies from my great grandmothers garden. As far as I know she bred them herself and they no longer exist.

I have a garden you can plant things in if you're close enough but they'd take a while to grow I assume. We only have bluebells in it atm. DD's just planted some flowering things but they haven't come out yet.

WalkingOnAFlashlightBeam · 14/05/2018 13:52

that's so sad UpstartCrow, I'm really sorry this has happened to you :(

I thought I'd ask as a lot of people just don't realise why their poppies are going missing, and sadly I think in a lot of cases these days if you want to grow poppies you're gonna have to do it in a private area the public can't see/access.

If you asked to take a few cuttings from my garden I would let you.

And tbh if you go to a wood or park, I can't see how taking a few flowers here and there is going to impact other peoples enjoyment. Just be discreet and go to lots of different areas to allow them to grow back.
