Hi

I’ve had a sore throat for just over a week, today just because I’m a bit weird I shone a light into my throat to see if it was still red - I can see these weird white spots in there ... any idea what it is? Does it warrant a visit to the gp tomorrow? I know they don’t like to give antibiotics unless they’re sure it’s bacterial so if it’s likely to be some virus I’ll leave it :/

Tonsil stones? It's hard to know what to do 're antibiotics. Does your Surgery have a phone consultation thing in place so that you could get advice?

Imustbemad00 · 13/05/2018 20:31

Not a doctor but 95% sure it’s tonsiltis. I get it a lot. Almost always have to have antibiotics. It would probably go away on its own eventually but it makes me so ill.

Bravouniformmike · 13/05/2018 20:32

Tonsil stones.
Bits of stuck food basically.. I poke mine out with a cotton bud and the relief is instant. If you are too squeamish for that haves goOd gargle with salty water hope you shift them.
I wouldn’t bother the gp

SoWakeUp · 13/05/2018 20:32

Ooh I'm not a Dr Smile

adaline · 13/05/2018 20:32

Looks like tonsil stones. You can poke them out with a cotton bud or gargle and hope they pop out.

Bravouniformmike · 13/05/2018 20:33

Oh and on first glance . That picture 😂

LadyPenelope68 · 13/05/2018 20:33

Definitely tonsil stones, my son gets them regularly. Just get a cotton bud and press the edge of them (opposite to where they are poking out) and they’ll pop out. Instant relief.

Fairylea · 13/05/2018 20:34

Tonsil stones. Poke them out with a cotton bud.

Tonsillitis tends to be all over and more of it.

madcatsforever · 13/05/2018 20:36

Like most surgeries it’s super hard to get a quick appointment - usually with a nurse practitioner on the day if you’re lucky hence why I don’t want to go if there’s unlikely to be treatment.

Just googled tonsil stones ... never heard of them before and wish I hadn’t looked lol

@bravo ... totally understand your first glance lol - I thought the same 😂😂😂

Mmm not true tonsillitis if you well enough to post as with true tonsillitis you are off your feet like flu.

Poke out with a cotton bud as pps have said

LovelyBranches · 13/05/2018 20:37

Sorry about your pain and/or discomfort but as a sporner this is the only bit of tonsillitis I miss. Popping these smelly little stones out of my tonsils, pure grossness but oh so satisfying

madcatsforever · 13/05/2018 20:39

@ohmydays - I have been off my feet and lost time at work. I’ve only just got up today and will be back in bed after a warm bath 😷

I’ve had severe ear ache and a fever as well but it’s the throat pain which is the worst ... even breathing seems to irritate it :(

Bravouniformmike · 13/05/2018 20:40

@madcat I think it’s because you are lacking in the uvula department . Mines is a dangler...

brittabot · 13/05/2018 20:41

That’s not necessarily true - I get tonsillitis a lot, and though I don’t feel great, sometimes I can’t get to dr immediately so still at work/looking after kids etc. Tonsillitis just means infected tonsils.

Ohmydayslove · 13/05/2018 20:41

Oh poor you op then if you can get to see your GP get some antibiotics. It’s vile isn’t it. Flowers

brittabot · 13/05/2018 20:42

Sorry that was to ohmydays

madcatsforever · 13/05/2018 20:42

Whatever it is I’m bored of it now 😂

I’m meant to be going away on Friday and so far haven’t had the energy to do anything - if I don’t get better fast I won’t be going anywhere :(

Ohmydayslove · 13/05/2018 20:43

Between laud flat and functioning

TestingTestingWonTooFree · 13/05/2018 20:43

If you’re going to poke around in there can you arrange good lighting and for someone to film please?

RatMama · 13/05/2018 20:44

They are tonsil stones. I get them. I use a cotton bud to dislodge them. Gross little things.

Ohmydayslove · 13/05/2018 20:44

Oh you have to smell them! You don’t want to but you have to Wink

Ohmydayslove · 13/05/2018 20:45

Yes please film Grin love a good spot squish

madcatsforever · 13/05/2018 20:47

Smellyjo · 13/05/2018 20:48

Yes looks just like tonsil stones to me. They are grim, I hate them. They wouldn't cause a really sore throat though - but smelly breath. People who are prone to tonsillitis are more prone to tonsil stones as the tonsils get a bit scarred and cratered. Tonsillitis will make your throat go white but doesn't look like that in my experience. Maybe just coincidence that you've gotten a nasty throat infection that's made you notice your tonsil stones. Have you tried tyrozets? They numb the throat pleasingly. Get well soon.
