Or was the police officer rude

There is a local 10k race in my nearest town, I forgot about this and popped to the shops. It appeared that most people had finished the race and instead of road closures the police were stopping traffic so the runners could pass to get to the end of race - all fine.

On my way home, the police stopped the traffic so one runner could cross. Once she had crossed the road the police officers were talking together and dropped their hands so I assumed I could start to go. I moved my car an inch - literally an inch- before one of the police stood in the middle of the road mouthing 'can you actually not see me, I'm stood here etc' rolling her eyes and waving her arms about. No one else crossed and then she stepped to the side and waved me through.

AIBU to think that she was really rude and there was no need for this?

No you were rude, driving at a police officer.

MinnieMul · 13/05/2018 12:04

They were a long way away. Not exactly driving at them.

Its a mountain out of a mole hill.

RunMummyRun68 · 13/05/2018 12:05

That's not rude op

araiwa · 13/05/2018 12:05

You wait for the officer to tell you you can move

Sirzy · 13/05/2018 12:06

So the police officer was stood in the road and hadn’t signaled for you to carry on yet you did anyway?

Angrybird345 · 13/05/2018 12:06

You’re in the wrong, not them!

scurryfunge · 13/05/2018 12:10

If a person ( police officer or otherwise) was standing in the middle of the road I would not advance towards them.

Nicknacky · 13/05/2018 12:11

You wait until the police officer indicate that you can drive onwards. She was annoyed, quite rightly that you were driving toward them.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 13/05/2018 12:13

Yeah I reckon she was rude too tbh. Did she forget she was supposed to be directing traffic? Probably narked that it was pointed out to her.

DamsonOnThisDress · 13/05/2018 12:18

Yeah, she was a bit rude but I wouldn't worry about it. You made a little mistake and she was a little bit rude in response. Forget about it.

I think she was rude too OP - forget about her

pigsDOfly · 13/05/2018 12:38

Not rude exactly as you should have waited until you were waved on but it does sound as if she was just making you wait for the sake of it and wielding a bit of power.

Nicknacky · 13/05/2018 12:40

pigs There is nothing more mundane than directing traffic. It's certainly not a power trip!

scurryfunge · 13/05/2018 12:43

Agree Nicknacky though members of the public driving at you spices things up a bit.

boywiththebrokensmile2 · 13/05/2018 12:45

TBH what you say about law enforcement being rude or going completely ott to the public is not surprising. I have seen it many many times myself, for instance I myself wanted to go for the police in my youth and did an interview but did not make it. Anyway after leaving a bar 1 night I was standing waiting on my mate and started chatting to a policeman[was being very friendly], telling him I wanted to be one and was disappointed I never made it through the interview and thought I would have worked hard at it. He replied something catty like ''well clearly they didn't think you were good enough if you did not get it...'' And I was being just friendly and he was a total dick.

I have seen policeman personally half beat the head over young lads at college who were doing little wrong-all they had to say was 'keep the noise down''. Another arrest I saw of two teenage girls was completely ott and the grown men handled them very roughly when the girls made no resist at arrest and were half the size of the police-members of the public watching were very angered by this. I have more examples of them being needlessly rude and hostile but I'll give them credit in that it can be a very stressful and exhausting job so it's not always personal. I work in a similar type job myself in dealing with the general public and we put up with alot of shit and do long hours so it's pretty impossible to be polite 24/7.

SecretIsland · 13/05/2018 12:48

one of the police stood in the middle of the road mouthing 'can you actually not see me, I'm stood here etc

Mouthing as in no words?

And you lip read 'can you actually not see me, I'm stood here'?

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 13/05/2018 12:48

There is nothing more mundane than directing traffic.

So you have to create of drama whilst doing it Wink

boywiththebrokensmile2 · 13/05/2018 12:48

''You wait until the police officer indicate that you can drive onwards. She was annoyed, quite rightly that you were driving toward them.''

and here comes the moral high pc brigade who have never done anything wrong in their lives...

pigsDOfly · 13/05/2018 12:51

I'm sure directing traffic is very boring, doesn't mean the person doing it would never behave in a petty way.

21jumpstreet · 13/05/2018 12:51

@boy you sound very bitter about not having got in to the Police. I assume you reported all of these things when you witnessed them?

Nicknacky · 13/05/2018 12:52

zibbi Hardly creating drama. You are human and when the public do stupid things you react. I will have said similar.

Directing traffic can bet totally dangerous. At no other time in life will you be standing in the way of cars in the middle of the road!

Nicknacky · 13/05/2018 12:54

boy Pc brigade?! Where did you get from my post that I'm never done anything wrong?

The op assumed, she didn't wait for an instruction and mucked up. That's all that happened.

ittakes2 · 13/05/2018 12:54

No matter how slowly, your car was moving towards a person in middle of the road and you think they are in the wrong?
