Or was the police officer rude

There is a local 10k race in my nearest town, I forgot about this and popped to the shops. It appeared that most people had finished the race and instead of road closures the police were stopping traffic so the runners could pass to get to the end of race - all fine.

On my way home, the police stopped the traffic so one runner could cross. Once she had crossed the road the police officers were talking together and dropped their hands so I assumed I could start to go. I moved my car an inch - literally an inch- before one of the police stood in the middle of the road mouthing 'can you actually not see me, I'm stood here etc' rolling her eyes and waving her arms about. No one else crossed and then she stepped to the side and waved me through.

AIBU to think that she was really rude and there was no need for this?

I read the OP’s initial post of course Fungy - I presumed that’s what we’re all basing OUR PERSONAL opinions on?
You were there weren’t you? Come on, admit it...😂

PlatypusPie · 13/05/2018 14:06

You made a thread to whine because you were embarrassed at being very mildly rebuked by a police officer who didn’t appreciate being driven at ? 🙄

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 14:08

I made no assumption that I knew what the PO was talking about?
Simply relating what the OP told us - that she was standing at the side of the road - hands down - chatting to colleagues.
Are you basing your opinion on what the OP has actually written....or something else?

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 14:09

It’s great to read all these views though - very interesting

OutofSyncGirl · 13/05/2018 14:10

You should always wait but she shouldn’t be chatting when it’s her job to be directing traffic.

felicitythemangyfox · 13/05/2018 14:10

Charolais 😂😂😂

scurryfunge · 13/05/2018 14:11

No wasn't there ( husband might be though, finished a town 10k at about the same time, lol).
Just get a bit fed up with people making big assumptions about what the police might be thinking/ doing without having any knowledge of you know, police work. Police usually have a very good reason to be standing in the middle of the road putting themselves at risk.
I'm retired now though so might turn into a judgey MOP and start calling 101 just to log things Grin

KenDoddsDadsDog · 13/05/2018 14:11

At least you didn’t get told off by Steve Cram like I did at the last Sunderland 10k Blush

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 14:18

Oh you’re a retired Police Officer @Funge? Ah, that explains it 🤗
I’m sure you’ll have witnessed the full spectrum of Police Officer professionalism during your career? As I say, they’re only human.
Hope your husband did well in his run 👍

scurryfunge · 13/05/2018 14:20

Thanks, I have certainly seen the full spectrum! Eye rolling is definitely at the lower end.
He didn't do too bad for an old 'un

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 14:22

Yay! Hope you’re pampering him this afternoon with four/calf massages and the like 😂

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 14:23

Foot not four! Ahahaha

scurryfunge · 13/05/2018 14:26

He’s hobbled into the shower now. Won’t be going anywhere near his feet!

Luisa27 · 13/05/2018 14:29

Ahahaha

agedknees · 13/05/2018 14:30

And I am sure scurry has witnessed the full dickheadedness of bad driving as part of her career too.

WeAllHaveWings · 13/05/2018 14:34

A police officer was in charge of directing traffic and you moved off without being signalled to do so. YABU

I moved my car an inch - literally an inch- before one of the police stood in the middle of the road mouthing 'can you actually not see me, I'm stood here etc' rolling her eyes and waving her arms about.

Hmm even if you weren't minimising your action and maximising hers for effect, YA still BVU.

Scrumptiousbears · 13/05/2018 14:40

OP I bet you were the umpteenth person who got impatient.

Maelstrop · 13/05/2018 15:02

Some drivers seem to think they aren’t obliged to follow P.O. instructions, so go all the way to the cones a P.O. has put out to close a lane then want to ask why the road is closed, then have to reverse causing chaos to other drivers and further delays. Believe me, I’ve heard some horrific tales.
