To be fair OP you obviously aren't a big proponent of bf today, as I've just seen you on another thread questioning the OP about why she's breast feeding her 2yo.

AmberNectarine · 12/05/2018 15:46

Also, if we're going to start cringing over words... Mumma?

paradyning · 12/05/2018 15:46

Kiddos?

anxiousmumma12 · 12/05/2018 15:50

I only asked why she would bf a two year old over night .
I'd say the same if she was bottle feeding all night long .

Doesn't matter . No two year old needs fed constantly over night

For those saying it's just feeding the baby - actually it's not. We boob our babies for numerous reasons, feeding being one of them

That's true actually, my baby wakes up for "boob" all night but I'm pretty sure it's not hunger but comfort. My friends baby LOVED bottles, not just the milk but the bottle, would still have milk out of a bottle now (aged 3) if he could. Again, a comfort thing.

UserV · 12/05/2018 16:01

Never heard of 'boobing the baby...'

Also hate milky cuddles. VOM

I know someone (who is on my facebook,) who is CONSTANTLY posting pics of herself breastfeeding her kids (5, 3 and 2.) Nothing wrong with B/F (OBVIOUSLY) but why she feels the need to post pics of herself (almost daily) of her B/G her kids just baffles me.

I think some people who B/F their babies/kids are like some vegans.... They just HAVE to let everyone know that they do it, and they act like they are better than people who don't.

Maybe I should post pics (almost daily,) of me feeding my cats. Confused 🐱

MaisyPops · 12/05/2018 16:05

Very true
There's another thread about someone who home educates, but rather than make the right choice for their children and get on with it, they seem to think it's fine to endlessly go on about how their way is right, schools are awful, send links to people who send their children to school etc.

Some people love feeling more enlightened than everyone else.

Goldfishshoals · 12/05/2018 16:08

You're not changing a bum, you're changing a nappy. It sounds so common.

I generally say 'change the baby'. My husband then loves to quip 'what into?', and I make up something ridiculous 'a dragon!' 'a baby that sleeps at night!'etc. And we laugh like drains.

(Disclaimer: niether my husband or I have had a decent night's sleep in a over year. Our sense of humour may be impaired).

NeepNeepNeep · 12/05/2018 16:09

Yea. "Mumma".

SecretIsland · 12/05/2018 16:17

I say I'm going to boob ds3 or give him a boob often.

He's 1. 'Feed the baby' now could mean anything from breastfeeding him to giving him cows milk in a cup to giving him a sandwich. 'Boob the baby' is much more accurate...and like a pp said, breastfeeding a baby isn't necessarily about feeding them anyway.

I've never said 'I'm going to go breastfeed the baby' - it sounds ridiculously pompous.

Goldfishshoals · 12/05/2018 16:17

What's wrong with 'feed the baby'?

I don't use the phrase 'boob the baby' but how can you possibly just use 'feed the baby' without ever specifying?? The length of time/preparations/locations/equipment/clean up etc for giving the baby breast milk Vs feeding them a cooked meal are not even remotely the same.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 12/05/2018 16:18

I really hate the term boob. It is one of those words that just sounds so gross.

I particularly hate it coming from MWs/ bfing counsellors/ HVs. It sounds to me about the same as calling your vagina a growler or minge - just a bit grim.

For the record, I ebf DD1 till weaning then carried on for as long as she wanted, and am now bfing twins so no anti bf agenda here.

@Maisypops

Yeah I agree. Some 'home-ed' people are a bit smug too...

I think 'home-ed' kids can do very well, (if it's done properly,) and learn better faster than some 'school-kids' (as it's more one-to-one type thing,) but not everyone has the opportunity to do it! Like not EVERYone can breastfeed. (I did, but don't judge those that don't.)

'Mumma' makes me vom too!

UserV · 12/05/2018 16:20

@SomeKnobend

You OK hun? Sad

NoYouDontHaveThat · 12/05/2018 16:21

I might vagina my DP later

GeekyBlinders · 12/05/2018 16:22

My inlaws used to say ‘change the baby’s bum’ and I hate it! Though sometimes I wanted to change his bum for a new bum that did less horrendous poos, to be fair.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 12/05/2018 16:23

Bottling the baby sounds like you are about to take it on in a street fight.

UserV · 12/05/2018 16:25

Grin
UserV · 12/05/2018 16:26

LOL @ @johnny too

ScreamingValenta · 12/05/2018 16:29

I'd never heard it before this thread, OP. It's made me laugh.

villainousbroodmare · 12/05/2018 16:37

YANBU, it's sort of smuggy-cutesy but mostly just sounds dumb. You wouldn't say 'I'm breasting the baby,' would you? (I don't mind the word 'boob' though.) It's similar to a few nouns that have recently been hammered into verbs... my pet hates being 'goaled', 'medaled' and 'pointed'.

KimKatCourtney · 12/05/2018 16:38

Never heard the expression and I was surrounded by friends that pretty much all breast fed. We just said we were ‘feeding the baby’ no need to specify how. However my son managed his first sentence last night which was ‘boob please thank you’

ScreamingValenta · 12/05/2018 16:54

I'm just imagining saying this at work, in the KIT day talk I give to returning mat leavers if they mention they are boobing their babies breastfeeding.

' ... and we have a room where you can boob your breast-pump in private ...'

Hatstand · 12/05/2018 17:12

Oh the irony of this coming from people with words like 'mumma' and 'nips' in their usernames.
