Not really an aibu but it is a quandry for me so thought I would post here ;)
I have one dc who is almost 2, we have no plan for any more at the moment and I currently work 4 days a week. I am a bit bored at work, it is safe and relatively stress free, but kind of dull. I have seen a couple of opportunities that could be fab for me, more challenging but full time. I had been determined to only work pt when dc is little, for all the obvious sorts of reasons. But now I am wondering is now actually an ideal time to go full time and build up career/reputation at work, and then maybe apply for flexible working when dc goes to school in a few years? Might it be easier to work full time now with full days of childcare available, then with shorter school days and school admin etc that might be the time to cut back? There might be scope for dh to go down to 4 days instead.
I love the extra time I have with dc now so I'm really conflicted about this, but also want to do my best for them long term, up my salary and be a good example to them of work ethic etc. I also had mild pnd and the balance of working too has helped this I think.
I read so much great advice on here, so hoping anyone can share their experience, if this has/hasn't worked for them? I am a bit worried about getting stuck at my level, I am only on a 4 day contract as it is possible when going back post mat leave, not many jobs in my area advertise pt jobs (but plenty of more senior women seem to work flexibly/4 days). However it is a decent solid job, good pay for what I do, and I don't have to take it home with me at the weekend/evenings, so that's in its favour. The prospective jobs are same sector, so not a big change in work culture, but maybe more logging on in the evening/slightly longer days required.
Not the most exciting post, so thanks for any thoughts! :)
