Just that really. This will benefit pushy middle classes (like me) but not the kids that really need investing in.

Stupid idea.

Oh and no worries about the less desirable parent part, I am 100 percent one of those parents around here I have kind of become accepting of my new title 🤦‍♀️

Metoodear · 11/05/2018 14:54

And those who say you don’t agree with grammars but would put your children in one 😂😂😂straight out of labour play book

I don’t agree with stealing so I don’t do and I wouldn’t do it if you do something then you agree with it

You don’t get to say it’s agaisnt my principles but I doing it any way the fact your doing it means you have none

ILikeMyChickenFried · 11/05/2018 14:55

Most churches don't even mind parents becoming devout for a few years to get the children into school.

The80sweregreat · 11/05/2018 14:58

ihate, i wish you luck actually - it will be a sacrifice but we all do this for our children. Hold your head up, i know i am anti grammar and everything, but why shouldnt your child go there , he has passed his exams and has a place - its the system thats wrong, not you or your child.
The opening post was about allocation of funds, which i think is wrong too, but we have the government we have and not much can be done about them for years, so have to see how it pans out. I can imagine a lot of teachers in 'normal' schools are just as fed up too - it always boils down to cash and its just the fact that there is money for them and not us. the old divide and rule.

Metoodear · 11/05/2018 14:58

Not sure about that chicken
My vicar is very strict you have to have 1 years attendance with child attending Sunday school and one or both parents regular volunteer ing and that’s prior to school starting

BertrandRussell · 11/05/2018 14:59

What do you suggest people who live in selective areas do?

ILikeMyChickenFried · 11/05/2018 15:01

So your church requires parents to be involved before the child is starting which is basically what I said!

Ihatezoflora · 11/05/2018 15:01

The uniform list for local Catholics school )

To think funding new grammar and faith schools is a bad idea.
Ihatezoflora · 11/05/2018 15:02

I actually got the blazer price wrong but still expensive !!
Then add the individual sport uniforms that they need to participate In 2 of them etc

The80sweregreat · 11/05/2018 15:03

Going down the church route cant be easy if your not at all religious, that really is a huge sacrifice. I know i couldnt have done this, but goes to show how determined some people are and most faith schools are always top of the league tables. People converting can also be a winner, but you have to be dedicated!

PatriarchyPersonified · 11/05/2018 15:04

Arguments like yours always remind me of this comic.

I am against Grammar schools, but if it was the best choice for my children, of course I would put them in one (assuming they could pass the tests)

I want to work towards a society where we don't have Grammar schools and an educational selection based on income, but until that point, you have to work within the system that currently exists.

Metoodear · 11/05/2018 15:05

The80sweregreat Your not anti grammer if your happy for your own children to attend a grammer what that makes people is champagne socialists

If your anti something you don’t do it of your anti fur you don’t we’re fur you don’t say well it’s ok for my kids but how awful for others to wear it

The80sweregreat · 11/05/2018 15:06

That list of things they need and cost wouldnt look out of place in a private school prospectus i bet!!

BertrandRussell · 11/05/2018 15:06

What do you think people who live in selective areas should do? Home educate? Let their children run feral?

PixiePixie1 · 11/05/2018 15:08

My grammar school education was the making of me, and I'm very grateful for that. I believe my life would've been different if I'd gone to my local comprehensive (it was failing at the time) My parents didn't pay for tutors either, I took the 11+ just to see if I could get into a grammar school. Fortunately, I did

Metoodear · 11/05/2018 15:08

PatriarchyPersonified Think you have the wrong person I am all for grammers and private schools

I have no issue with them currently me have an education system based of the size of the mortgage you can get so the bigger house your parents can buy determines what shook your child attends

Grammers and drinks based of ability so posh but dim timwon’t be going

PatriarchyPersonified · 11/05/2018 15:09

Metoodear

So to extend your argument on the principle that you shouldn't participate in something if you aren't in support of it.

Some people believe that unchecked capitalism is not the best way to run a modern society.

Should they then have to revert back to a barter system of trade and forgo using money until their goal is reached?

Metoodear · 11/05/2018 15:10

BertrandRussell They have state school even in selective areas don’t you know

Have the courage of your convictions
Or is grammer just good for theirs lots of the liberals like to push this

I know JC adviser Shamus miles kids attends tiffin 😅

Ihatezoflora · 11/05/2018 15:10

The80sweregreat - I was so shocked !!
Then wanted to cry a little when he said he would choose rugby and cricket 😂😂😂😂

arethereanyleftatall · 11/05/2018 15:11

I want my dc to go to grammar school.
In their current primary school there are children who disrupt the class with bad behaviour; they won't pass the 11+.
There are children who are miles behind academically and lessons need to be adjusted/time taken out to accommodate them; they won't pass the 11+.
So, you're left with hard working well behaved kids in my dcs class. Good. I don't care what class/finances they're from, but I do care about how they behave.
I support bright, good hardworking children from less advantaged backgrounds getting help to get in.

BertrandRussell · 11/05/2018 15:12

“BertrandRussell They have state school even in selective areas don’t you know”

That makes no sense.

Bettyfood · 11/05/2018 15:13

A grammar school IS a state school, MeToodear.

Metoodear · 11/05/2018 15:13

PatriarchyPersonified We don’t have a barter system up and running

But we have state schools or grammers or private

But that’s how champagne socialists work they drink the Moët themselves and tell the rest of us how good the muddy stream will be and give reasons why they possibly couldn’t 😀

BertrandRussell · 11/05/2018 15:13

They wouldn’t be in your kid’s sets at a comprehensive either.

Metoodear · 11/05/2018 15:14

Bettyfood Selective schools my bad
