Influencer ethics on Instagram

MadameGrizzly · 09/05/2018 21:56

Continuing the discussion on whether influencing on Instagram is an ethical business model, particularly around the disclosure of advertising and the over exposure of children.

AIBU to think it isn't a sustainable career unless the influencer is scrupulously ethical?

Messybun, DMBL40 has tagged hers as #gift.

MessyBun247 · 14/05/2018 17:49

Not sure who DMBL40 is. Must be quite a few of them on the ship!

Goingovertosusanshouse · 14/05/2018 17:51

Now this new information has come to light, that mumsnet offered to remove the thread completely, is this ‘campaign’ going to stop? Is there going to be an apology from Natasha? I doubt it.

@goingover there won’t be. There should be. It makes a mockery of it all really.

BinG0wings123 · 14/05/2018 17:56

I mean, to say that mumsnet didn’t respond, or didn’t respond in the way they wanted is a joke now. They asked Clemmie.

So I’d love to know if Clemmie told Natasha that? Because if she did, it was incredibly daft to start this when a solution had already been offered.

MarshaBradyo · 14/05/2018 17:56

Grin Flying yes I like it

I now know the secret to clearing a room of instamums, perhaps at one of those events it could come in handy - ask about privacy

NeverWas · 14/05/2018 18:00

FlyingBird 😂

You're very articulate. We are all probably typing quickly to keep up with thread, hence the mistakes (that's my excuse...)

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 14/05/2018 18:01

I may start a #dearnatasha campaign to ask all of these very pertinent questions. I cant work out whose behaviour had been the least ethical, TBH.

Reboot · 14/05/2018 18:02

Alison Perry's latest IG post talks about child privacy and the comments are really balanced, quite a few from other bloggers which I found interesting to read as it is good to hear their perspective.

My mind is still boggling that Clemmie thinks the potty picture was out of order but still lets it stay up.

Cobrider · 14/05/2018 18:05

I started following DMBL40 again after she started being more clear about what was gifted and paid for. Yes it’s still vacuous but I don’t mind that, sometimes it’s what I want.

mastershelp · 14/05/2018 18:08

This revelation has made the whole hissyfit campaign even worse and on false premise. MN offered to take thread down, so how can someone then say MN need to do more to stop trolls/haterz?

BinG0wings123 · 14/05/2018 18:12

@masters even more laughable than before. I’d still love to know if clemmie told Natasha what they had said. I’m sure Natasha is reading it would be good if she spoke up and clarified her campaign.

MadameGrizzly · 14/05/2018 18:12

@underestimation

I think we are interested in all the ethics of all the influencers. Why limit ourselves to children and ethics?

It's all relevant.

I'm personally considering a #dearnatasha on insta and screen shotting some revelations.

jamoncrumpets · 14/05/2018 18:17

I think NB would prob still think this is all mean tbh, she doesn't really get it

BinG0wings123 · 14/05/2018 18:20

(And I say ‘campaign’ loosely - the latest #dearmumsnet is someone calling them out for being middle class).

PavlovaPrincess · 14/05/2018 18:21

I'm not sure MOD gets it either Confused If MN had offered to take the thread down, what actually was the point of reposting the #dearmumsnet post? What were they aiming to achieve?

No answer again to the HF article (and I wasn't asking to be mean just to point out that MN isn't the only place that has issues with the Instamums and child privacy).

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 14/05/2018 18:22

If we are talking about unpleasant behaviour and unkindness, where does sitting silently whilst someone else runs a campaign essentially defaming someone else's business and the moderators who work there which you know is based on an entirely false premise fall to be judged in the wonderful world of instgram?

I think MOD and NB are actually very lucky that Justine took such a dignified approach to this and basically ignored them. It's contemptable.

PavlovaPrincess · 14/05/2018 18:23

Also, I feel like we're getting on at MOD because she's come onto the thread, when really I'd like NB to come and clarify (although I don't think it was wise for Clemmie to get involved with that 'campaign' without knowing what it was about).

MadameGrizzly · 14/05/2018 18:24

Natasha has gained approximately 5000 followers since starting her ill conceived campaign on the first day of the bank holiday weekend. Some of these followers are probably due to the Manchester event, but overall the #dearmumsnet campaign has a lot in common with the potty photo.

It served no purpose other than attention seeking.

I think she achieved the underlying aim of her campaign.

I have NC for this, because it's outing, and NB will def know who I am from it. And I wasn't going to post it because it would out me. But I think it's pertinent. I DID message NB on instagram about her 'campaign', respectfully and reasonably. And I received a pretty vague response. No attempt at engaging, no conversation, just...

Flying bird, funny you should say that, as it was mentioned and a large percentage of influencers didn't want the "MN Gang" to join the table.

Do you remember back when Clemmie mentioned previously she had been asked into MNHQ? It was then.
