...and flossing your teeth on the tube is one of them?

@Lethaldrizzle

'Obviously the more efficient option'? - er No, the more efficient option is to set your alarm for 10/20 min earlier and do it in front of a proper mirror in a room that's not moving

efficient
ɪˈfɪʃ(ə)nt/Submit
adjective
1.
(of a system or machine) achieving maximum productivity with minimum wasted effort or expense.

Waking up 10-20 minutes earlier instead of using free time on your commute isn't efficient.

GrannyHaddock · 11/05/2018 23:36

Just assume the nose hair is perfectly clean. Would you find it distracting? And not everyone's nails will be as clean as yours.

GrannyHaddock · 11/05/2018 23:41

Or suppose the man was dry shaving his head as a PP mentioned? Wouldn't you want to move away?

Evangeline3 · 12/05/2018 00:07

@GrannyHaddock Two different situations, filing a 2cm nail & shaving your head.
If the hair was going everywhere then I would move.

Whitesea · 12/05/2018 01:20

Travel is precious thinking and music time?

Travelling to the capital on a busy commuter train where everyone is pushing to get the last seat is anything but precious time. It is a necessary means to the destination and not enjoyable at all imo. I can think of many many things I’d rather do and if I can use my half hour doing something constructive, I will.

The things I find irritating about fellow passengers are those eatibg sweets, chewing gum, hearing music from other people’s headphones, cigarette smells from oeople’ clothes and breath, smelly breath, phone calls, hearing what people are watching on their phones because they can’t be bothered using headphones, people leaving rubbish after them and people looking away so they don’t have to offer their seats to a pregnant woman. Putting make up on, using a tweezers quietly is nothing in comparison.

Ariesgirl1988 · 12/05/2018 01:40

To those of you who didn't like my comment regarding hairy pits calm down for god sake I am not calling anyone who grows hair abnormal or imposing body/beauty issues so don't jump out your prams, those of you who are jumping on my comments and calling me judgemental are doing the exact same thing that you're accusing me of I am entitled to my opinion and a forest under sweaty arms is disgusting especially on a crowded train if you don't like my opinions no one is forcing you to read them you can simple ignore Hmm

SunshineAfterRain · 12/05/2018 01:51

Just caught up Shock
Some of these stories are horrific!
I don't know who wins the tampon story, the man shaving his head (amusing but vile) or the mum who sucked snot out the babies nose and spat it on the floor. Confused

Ariesgirl1988 · 12/05/2018 01:55

@ikeepaforkinmypurse exactly my point but it seems I have offended everyone and committed a crime against feminism because my opinion "body shames" and I'm a "weird human being with too much time on my hands" because I posted something the majority of the posters don't like disagree with Hmm LOL

Cwenthryth · 12/05/2018 03:01

You know, I have learnt so many wonderful things from MN. Including a lot about how to recognise patterns of behaviour. DARVO (Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim & Offender) is a classic pattern of behaviour by wrong-doers when confronted with their acts.

Deny I am not calling anyone who grows hair abnormal or imposing body/beauty issues

Attack don't jump out your prams

Reverse Victim & Offender those of you who are jumping on my comments and calling me judgemental are doing the exact same thing that you're accusing me of

This is a simple example, but nonetheless, Ariesgirl1988, the pattern is there in your attempts to defend yourself. If you truly believe you are ‘right’, then you shouldn’t need to stoop to these tactics to argue your position.

You are absolutely entitled to your opinion. The rest of us are entitled to our opinion of you. You don’t get to deny what you have said, and it absolutely is body shaming to call someone’s natural body hair disgusting, whilst there is no feminist police (therefore no ‘crimes against feminism’) it is patently not a feminist position you hold.

So, please stop “LOL” and Hmming at people calling you out. Either counter respectfully or go away and have a think about why so many posters disagree with what you have written.

Evangeline3 · 12/05/2018 03:41

@Ariesgirl1988 You haven't offended me. I just don't agree with you and can tell a lot about your character by you dictating how, people you don't know, should trim their hair.
Please trim your tongue.

SamanthaBrique · 12/05/2018 07:16

I've seen them wear face masks in cheap salons with chinese/ Japanese technicians where they don't clean their instruments.
When I got my nails done I'd pay for them to be done properly and they wouldn't wear face masks

Erm no, it's got nothing to do with the cleanliness of their instruments and everything to do with nail dust from when they're removing acrylics or filing. Plus there's the smell of all the nail products.

And they're usually Vietnamese in the salons you refer to, not "Chinese or Japanese".

A girl opposite me eating a Mars bar by spitting each bite into a tissue after she’d chewed rather than swallowing it

Deathraystare · 12/05/2018 07:43

I saw a young woman on the tube plucking hairs out of her chin. Not something i personally would draw attention to!!!!

Candlelight123 · 12/05/2018 08:38

The rule should be any activity or grooming which 'sheds' I.e removing bogies, chin hair, nail clippings and filing, Shouldn't be performed in public.
It's gross and shouldn't be inflicted on others.

Candlelight123 · 12/05/2018 08:42

Oops posted too soon. Aries I don't think it's unreasonable to not want a sweaty pit in your face but a hairy pit is not necessarily a sweaty one - 2 different things.
I didn't shave for a good few months I wasn't a dirty bitch, and no less hygienic than when I do choose to shave.

Unescorted · 12/05/2018 09:08

It is the sound of nails being filed. It has the same effect of nails being drawn down a blackboard. Horrible horrible sound.

Nail varnish and anything that contains organic solvents triggers my migraines. I do ask people to stop and open the windows because I lose my vision quite quickly. When I was more polite I had to walk the 3 miles home from the station... I think that was the day I stopped being a doormat.

GrannyHaddock · 12/05/2018 09:40

Whitesea, not every journey happens in the rush hour. When I was sitting opposite the woman applying mascara and moisturising her legs it was about midday.

GrannyHaddock · 12/05/2018 10:00

We could learn a lot from the Japanese when it comes to behaviour on trains. Their country is so crowded that it can only function if everyone observes maximum respect. Mobile phone conversations are strongly discouraged. I have only once saw a man making a call on a commuter train and he was ultra quiet. On a bigger train he would have gone to the space between the carriages. I never seen anyone filing, powdering, tweezing or shaving, in fact doing anything that might disturb others. Many go to sleep as soon as they sit down. Despite the numbers travelling the experience in the carriage is calm and respectful.

ParisUSM · 12/05/2018 10:35

Would putting cream on your face or hands be acceptable as I do both on the bus regularly. I take it sunscreen is out? I eat an apple on my way home and imagine that's beyond the pale too. So hard to tell what is acceptable on here! It seems I should just feign unconsciousness just in case I offend someone on the bus.

SamanthaBrique · 12/05/2018 10:45

Of course there's a difference between putting hand cream on and flossing your teeth! And eating an apple on the bus is hardly on the same league as scoffing a full MaccyD's meal!

OP posts:
ParisUSM · 12/05/2018 10:53

People have commented on apple eating and putting moisturiser on legs so really hard to tell what would offend some people on here.

You have reminded me of the one thing that does truly rile me up - people bringing on fish suppers and then eating them when I'm starving with an hour and a half to get home!

SerenDippitty · 12/05/2018 10:59

I personally don’t get why people swim in pools without some sort of head covering. Who want’s to swim in a pool full of other people’s hair?

Andrewofgg · 12/05/2018 11:02

I've told this one before but what the hell:

Hot day on the Tube, most but not all seats taken, nobody standing, so good lines of sight.

Young woman gets on, scratching her arms and legs. So far so good. Then she unbuttons her blouse, pulls her left breast out of her bra, has a good scratch, puts it back in her bra, pulls out her right breast, repeats the performance, and buttons up her blouse.

But this is England and nobody bats an eyelid and nobody says a word even after she gets out at the next station.

I can only speak for myself but I thought This is a hidden-camera show and I am not going to be the one who makes a tit of himself on television - and perhaps I was right although I never saw the broadcast if I was. Of course the producer might have decided the clip was a failure and not used it precisely because nobody reacted!

M5tothesouthwest · 12/05/2018 11:14

I had someone clip their nails whilst sat next to me at an airport, then left the clippings on the armrest between our seats 🤢. I was too shocked to say anything.

papayasareyum · 12/05/2018 11:20

I was with a friend, having a meal. After eating, she took out some floss and started flossing her teeth. We were right next to other tables/people and I was a bit grossed out. Is this gross or ok because it was following food and she could’ve had foot trapped between her teeth?
