To think I could write an actual book out if one surreal night?

based on true events. Two professional women go for a night out. It ends with mass riots, a mental breakdown, both of them getting arrested, no memory of what the hell happened other than what everyone else tells them.

I realise it sounds like the film The Hangover but this actually happened and was anything but funny.

I'm a writer and was needing new material. AIBU to think I could actually make a book out of the bizarre events of one night out?

Sounds interesting I'd give it a read.

wellBeehivedWoman · 09/05/2018 17:33

We need more details!

CaesarsMrs · 09/05/2018 17:38

Can't really give many details as it would be a bit identifying but so much happened in the space of a few hours that we joked we could write a book about it. Then I realised I actually could. The arrests were for totally different events after the pair had gone their separate ways which makes it even more bizarre as neither had ever been trouble with the law before

Do it and let us know!

LaurieFairyCake · 09/05/2018 17:42

I had a poo in an alleyway once after a night out

Probably not worth writing about ....

Arrested for what?!

CaesarsMrs · 09/05/2018 17:54

Thanks Laurie, I'll factor that into the story. I mean some of it is going to need to be exagurated and completely made up obviously but the foundations is actually true. Weeks later consequences of that night are still occurring. It's so surreal.

Both were arrested for assault / on different people in two completely different and separate events and both completely out of character

More of a script... a good one.
A book might be tough.

ReggaetonLente · 09/05/2018 17:57

Blimey. It sounds like the kind of thing that makes people think about going along to an AA meeting.

I don’t know if it would work as a book OP. Using The Hangover as an example, so much of what makes that funny hinges on visual gags.

A book might have read like a sad, alcoholic diary.

iklboo · 09/05/2018 17:59

I once fell down a ravine going for a wee behind a tree and had to be rescued by two lads from Nottingham. I was completely sober too.

speakout · 09/05/2018 18:02

Sounds like the kind of night I would rather forget- and I have had wilder ones than the one you describe OP.

I wouldn't buy your book- sorry.

PS A good proofreader may be worth the investment.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/05/2018 18:02

Can't really give any details as it's too identifying How will you write a book then? Confused

I agree that it doesn't sound that humorous or surreal, more like a glimpse into the dark side of alcoholism and violence.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/05/2018 18:04

Yes and stick Spell Check on Grin

I once set my boss's suit sleeves on fire with a flaming Sambucca on a drunken night out. He took it fairly well although the suit was ruined.

speakout · 09/05/2018 18:07

Sorry OP I am struggling to believe you are a writer

"I'm a writer and was needing new material. "

So you did need new material, but not now?

Mixing tenses in a sentence like this is very clumsy.

PoisonousSmurf · 09/05/2018 18:15

You'll need to brush up on your grammar for a start Grin

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 09/05/2018 18:29

You could approach Take A Break magazine. This sounds just up their street and they pay up to £250 a story.

Your friends will have to agree to photos re enacting parts of the evening though; one of them lying on the pavement holding a bottle of Cava, one of them looking outraged with the caption "I was handcuffed".
