Aibu to have not picked up my dogs poo?

Today I took my dog out for a walk on the beach, it's a lovely beach and majority of owners including myself pick up their dogs mess.

My dog loves to run out far and swim in the sea, she was ahead of me but in the distance I could see she was crouching down to go to the toilet. I hurried up to catch her however by the time I had got there I realised she had gone to the toilet at the edge of the sea and it was being washed away. I had a look to see if there was anything there but nothing was left.

A man with three large dogs approached me telling me 'your dog has just done a massive shit aren't you going to clean it?!'. I responded that I would have however it's been washed away. He pointed to something floating which wasn't a dog poo and said I should go in and get it.

Aibu to have not gone in? He spoke to me in a really threatening manner and said that it's people like you that make the world a disgusting place. I now don't want to go to the beach for a while as I've seen him there before and he speaks to a lot of other dog walkers, it was very intimidating as there wasn't many around that end of the beach and he was raising his voice and swearing.

Filth.

I so wish there were no dogs around (except for assistance/working dogs)...spreading their shit everywhere. Just disgusting.

Cath2907 · 08/05/2018 11:30

I'll let me dog know his shitting habits need to be more regular!!!!!!! I've never any idea when he is going to go :)

Armchairanachist · 08/05/2018 11:46

This is the reason my dog is banned from the beach where we live.

Appletreecorner · 08/05/2018 12:01

I'm at the beach with my dog. Look at it! And posters think dogs should be banned! 😠

Exactly Appletree. It's us that should be banned, we're the worst of all the animals on this planet.

sophieannie · 08/05/2018 12:36

This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve read in a while. So pp think it makes more sense to pick up dog crap and put it in a plastic bag that will go into landfill and decompose over millennia, than harmfully wash out to sea? Do people actually think the sea is sterile, filtered water? Every time you enter the sea you’re swimming through another organism’s excrement. Utterly baffling.

HoldingTheLineWinston · 08/05/2018 13:45

Dog poo is disgusting. Why should any non dog owner be subjected to it anywhere, whether on land or floating in the sea? If you are a dog owner you might not realise how repulsive it is to those of us who aren't.

greenteaplease · 08/05/2018 13:46

Thanks for the responses I've read them all.

Just to clear up she does come back when called, she also comes back for her lead when I clap three times.

Maybe in distance wasn't the best word to use as it's very subjective, she was ahead of me, she wasn't a dot in the distance. I could clearly see what she was doing.

But again it's a dog friendly beach and doesn't say anything about them being kept on leads, obviously I will take much more care to ensure this doesn't happen again. There are parts of our coast that have restrictions on dogs, but not this particular area.

Of course I realise that dog poo is disgusting, that doesn't change because I own a dog.

I worked out I've probably picked up close to 1400 dog poos in the last 4 years but this is the only one I've missed. Yes I realise they're disgusting which is why I've picked them all up.

My comment wasn't aimed at you greentea, but at those suggesting it's ridiculous to not want to be exposed to it...if you read back you will see that I asserted you shouldn't have to wade into the sea to retrieve the poo.

Oh I see my mistake, sorry about that.

Op ignore the self righteous ones, those that live such saintly lives they never ever step a foot out of line, and you are certainty not a "disgusting human being", what an appalling thing to say. I'm sure that out of 4 years picking up after your dig, your one mistake can be forgiven, well by any normal people anyway.

Celebelly · 08/05/2018 14:53

This is cracking me up. Anyway, at least it'll give the kids with fishing nets something to catch.

Chickenagain · 08/05/2018 15:34

@Appletreecorner

I know - makes me laugh (in an ironic way). Those of us lucky enough to own dogs AND live on the coast by a real beach (not your 'attached to a town wiv donkeees 'n 'otdogs beach' are far more pragmatic.
Then the pearl clutching burbanites visit, tell us how wrong it all is - dogs on leads, dont drive in flip flops, don't miss a poo crumb etc. Then they tidy all their waste into a neat pile (if we are lucky) and leave it there for the litter fairies to clear up while they fuck off back to the burbs!

The angriest ones park by the path, walk 100m along it, plonk themselves down at the edge of the beach and are seriously upset when several hundred other people have to negotiate the edge of their picnic blanket, while the dogs rummage through their Tupperware. Idiots! Grin

Earlier, someone mentioned the sea was "self-cleaning" Hmm yeah, course it is love. So is the beach, and the verges, the forests and the pavements........

Something for the NO DOGS ON THE BEACH brigade....

None of these dogs left that pile of rubbish....

IrianOfW · 08/05/2018 15:46

Wow! Well done for finding a beach where you can take your dog OP. They are getting rarer than hen's teeth once May has started.

IrianOfW · 08/05/2018 15:50

Sorry, I realise i was missing the point.

However I tend to agree that it's the human beings that are the real culprits when it comes to pollution. Fuss about dog shit seems absurd in comparison with the other stuff we pump/spill/leak into the sea.

LakieLady · 08/05/2018 15:59

Dogs shouldn't be allowed on beaches.

We live on an island with beaches aplenty. Dogs are banned from a lot of them. It's really not hard to find a dog-free beach.

Appletreecorner · 08/05/2018 16:00

Dog owners walk the beach all through the year, in all winds and weather's. But come a nice, sunny day and suddenly those that want the beach to themselves demand that dogs shouldn't be allowed on the beach. Get over yourselves - and take your stinking rubbish home with you.

I'll be glad when the sun is no longer shining and dog walkers can have their beach back and dogs are free to have a good run around with other dogs without miserable people moaning and kids whinging.

Bring on Autumn 🤗

InspMorse · 08/05/2018 16:00

chicken
Whilst images of your dogs frolicking happily on the beach may be delightful to some, they are the reason many people stay away.

On a different point - not everyone leaves trails of rubbish behind them. Although you wouldn't think it if you counted up the hundreds of little plastic bags full of shit I see dropped on paths in the countryside.

LakieLady · 08/05/2018 16:09

The amount of people who stop and stare when my female dog has a wee (because it looks like she's pooing) is ridiculous. I've had to say, "that's how bitches wee" on more than one occasion.

You're more polite than me. I once asked some bullnecked moron to show me how to pick up piss, on being told to "pick that up" when my dog had a pee on a grass verge.

LakieLady · 08/05/2018 16:12

In next week's Daily Mail: Woman swept out to sea while trying to pick up poo ...

BabiesComeWithHats · 08/05/2018 16:24

Oh OP, bad luck. Bad luck that this happened and you posted on the first sunny weekend of the year. The frothing hordes come out every year about now to decree how all the beaches and parks should be dog free, and then they'll ignore them for the next 51 weekends without ever stopping to think why those beaches and parks are open to the public, and have bins for their rubbish, and are safe spaces for their children to play.

I am particularly enjoying all the 'But won't anyone think of the surfers!' pearl clutching. How, precisely, do they think surfers go when they need a wee deliberately to keep warm in the sea. Grin

Aridane · 08/05/2018 16:29

I,don’t think surfers shit in their wet suits Grin

NotCisImaWoman · 08/05/2018 16:29

Nah yanbu op, and i agree with Babies above.

And my dog would never shit while on their lead in a million years. Some dogs just won't regardless of training.
