to be pissed off with neighbour mowing grass today

I will probably be shot down for this. First really sunny day for months when we could enjoy our garden. We have grass and were sitting out for first time this year, enjoying late breakfast and the papers - utter bliss. Then next door neighbour started his very noisy ride-on mower. Their garden is much bigger than hours and it took nearly an hour of noise, petrol fumes etc. Then a peaceful break, and just relaxing again this afternoon when he started up again, and then produced another mower for the edges - more noise, more fumes.
For context we have had a really difficult time since last summer, very stressful and this was literally the first day we could really let go and relax without pressures to think about. Neighbour does not know that, but I am annoyed because it is inconsiderate. He works from home a lot of the time, and could have done this on a weekday. Very old fashioned probably, but I was brought up not to create any disturbance on a Sunday which was regarded as a day or rest when your neighbours deserved peace and quiet. For that reason, I never use a mower on a Sunday, or do other noisy building work, etc. Just needed to express my annoyance and regret at the return of tension so soon.

Maybe annoying in your position but yanbu. Its the w/e n a lovely sunny day folks will be out mowing strimming, bbq-ing, paddling pools, kids shrieking!

YANBU my next door neighbour mows or power tools really loud on EVERY nice Sunday. He doesn't bother if it's cloudy or cool but as soon as the sun comes out he's making as much engine noise as possible for most of the day

For goodness sake, you can't mow the lawn when the grass is damp. Of course people mow the lawn when it's hot and sunny. Hmm

YABU. We cut our grass on Sunday too, we also cleared a lot of junk from the garden, did 2 tip runs and the kids ran wild in the street. Yesterday, we filled a paddling pool in the street (we don't live on a road), lit bbqs in our front garden and shared food, drink, music and conversations with our neighbours. A few neighbours came by and shook their heads, but it was a really great day and night.

After working all week, and some weekends, we grab whatever opportunity we are presented with with both hands to get stuff done.......

Think I’m right in saying that it’s illegal to mow your lawn in Switzerland on a Sunday!
My neighbour had one of those power washer things on all weekend. Don’t mind mowing noises. But the drone of those washers makes my teeth grate. Sure I equally annoy in other ways, though. It’s just part of living near people.

Bogmoppit
I was really touched by your kind reply about stress, and sorry you have had to deal with vast amounts of it too in the last ten years. Its great that you have found some ways to alleviate the effects which certainly are devastating. Very wise to do this, I am still searching for how! I was so sorry that your DH and you were not able to both do it, and are now divorcing. DP and I have both individually had a lot to deal with in recent years, but he is better than me at not getting anxious - his baseline of relaxation and positivity is better than mine.
Truly hope for a happy relaxed future for you - you are a wise and kind person so I am sure you will attain that.
Have tried to put bunch of flowers smiley on as thanks, but just can't make it work. Wish I could send them to you.

Thank you for your post @BarefootMe
You've made me feel really good and boosted my self esteemGrin
Keep searching for your moments of peace and you-time in each day. Dog-walking is a daily lifesaver for me.
Good luck ThanksStarSmile
