Have you watched the table read of Greatest Showman that's on YouTube? He's standing behind a music stand, next to Jeremy Jordan, abd delivers an impromptu version of From Now On thats much better than the soundtrack.

He can sing. I'm not claiming he's a world's best or anything but he can.

Tbh I think a part of the problem is both of the filmed musicals ask him to work outside his best range and Greatest Showman in particular has sound recording issues all the way through.

Mookatron · 06/05/2018 11:00

He can sing! Terrible film though. My kids liked it, mind.

wildbhoysmama · 06/05/2018 11:06

Oh Jesus, don't mention Russell Crowe in Les Mis: The most cringe worthy, God awful performance ever. Terrible casting. But I thought Hugh was great. He can come and warble to me anytime, heck J may even join in as I admire his, aherm, scales!

SadieHH · 06/05/2018 11:19

I clearly saw a different film to everyone else. The Greatest showman was pure shite. Absolutely awful!

MoanerLiza · 06/05/2018 11:27

I agree! I think most parts in Les Mis were appallingly miscast, with big names just to make money, but who couldn't sing, Russell Crowe being the worst.

deadringer · 06/05/2018 11:28

I hate musicals but love Hugh Jackman, the man is a God, yabvu.

maddiemookins16mum · 06/05/2018 11:32

I couldn't give a monkeys nuts if can sing or not, (he can but he's no Michael Ball for instance). I just like seeing him in his ringmasters outfit 😊😊

Dixiestampsagain · 06/05/2018 11:36

Bits of ‘From Now On’ are great, but I don’t think he’s the greatest singer. As pp have said, he gets away with it with his charisma.

pigpoglet · 06/05/2018 11:44

He is very very nasal when he sings , I think he has managed to persuade an entire nation he can but I don't like his voice at all... ido however like him very much so I guess I let it go 🤷‍♀️

PinkbicyclesinBerlin · 06/05/2018 11:47

I think you can’t hear OP Grin I love Hugh Jackman.

SilverHairedCat · 06/05/2018 11:50

Love Hugh Jackman. Oklahoma! was fabulous, he can sing, dance and act. Sigh.

Anyway, the problems with The Greatest Showman are:
A) use of auto tune
B) overuse of auto tune
C) Hugh singing pop songs, not musical songs
D) it's not a musical, it's pop songs stuck into a story

mzcracker · 06/05/2018 12:01

He doesn't have the greatest voice in the world no but he can hold a tune and he can act.
I loved the greatest showman and I'm not a massive hugh jackman fan but I thoroughly enjoy it.

IronMansIronButt · 06/05/2018 12:02

Of course he can sing. He opens his mouth and sounds come out and he's vaguely in tune, he can sing.
You may not personally like his singing but thats not the same thing.

MeOldBamboo · 06/05/2018 12:02

You need to see Oklahoma. He is fabulous in that!

SaucyJack · 06/05/2018 12:06

I kind of agree Aunt Jobiska, but I think Hugh's problem in TGS is that he's been cast in the lead role with several supporting actors who can and do sing, dance and act all at once. Keala Settle is fantastic- and even Zac Efron shows him up in the dual scenes.

I love the film tho, and I love his acting in it. It's just a shame he can't really carry off some of the songs.

gabsdot · 06/05/2018 12:21

You take that back immediately. Hugh is totally wonderful in everything.
