To think this is a puppy farm ?

I have been looking for a puppy for my mum today she doesn't go online (she hasn't worked it out yet Wink) so I said I would have a look around for her.
I found this person on pets 4 homes who had some puppies available in the breed my mum would like and has had before.
The details said the puppies were 14 weeks old. I messaged the seller to ask questions and said can I just check they have had all their injections. As far as I can tell the first ones should be done around 8-10 weeks and then 12 weeks ish.
She said they hadn't and she didn't get them done because when people take the dogs for their second injections they might be a different brand Hmm. I thought fair enough but surely by 14 weeks she should have had them fully vaccinated anyway.
She got very snotty about this and said she has been a breeder for 10 years.
The thing is the puppies won't have been socialised because they won't have been able to leave the house. They are surely open to diseases as-well. I can understand when they are 8 weeks the breeder leaving the new owners to get the injections but to me this is just a way for her to save money.
On further digging she is also selling a litter of completely different breed puppies ! Which is also a massive red flag.
I just hate things like this ! Her profile on pets 4 homes doesn't give anything away apart from the area she lives and that she doesn't have a breeders licence so I don't think there is any way of reporting this.
I know I will be told I'm being unreasonable just ignore it non of my business etc but it's just so sad for the puppies Angry

Don't let her fall for the charms of a "pomsky" though, I can't think of two more unsuitable breeds to cross Smile

ToadOfSadness · 06/05/2018 10:29

A crossbreed is essentially a mongrel, you may well find one in a rescue. Giving them a fancy name doesn't make them a breed which may be why you can't find one other than from a dodgy 'breeder'.

Yes that's very true in fact to me Ben looks like a yorkie but apparently his brother was a chihuahua look alike. She did say we never called him a chorkie in my day (she actually said in my day which made me laugh Grin) they called him a a Heinz 57 which I suppose means different varieties 😉.

Oooh what's a Pomsky I've not heard of them although it sounds like a huskie cross Pomeranian which can't even be possible surely Hmm

Oh yes after a google it is exactly that ! I don't even want to think how that is possible Shock no she won't be falling in love with one of them a Great Dane looks more like Ben than they do Wink
Anyway we have had a chat and she is deffo up for a yorkie so now to do more research Smile

Can you report it?

sleeplesswonderer · 06/05/2018 11:38

Reported it to pets 4 homes

I don't know too much about this but I imagine Pets 4 Homes are self-policing. Do you think it might also be worth calling the RSPCA?

ShmooBooMoo · 06/05/2018 11:48

By self-policing I meant they probably won't do much...

You've had a lot of good advice OP (and a bit of a lynching, but ignore that). I think the best thing to do is talk to your mum. Everyone who has had a beloved dog would like, in some way, to recreate that experience, but even buying the same breed from the same lines does not guarantee that because each dog is very different and they are all individuals. In your mum's case I think she's an ideal candidate for a rescue dog (I have rescues and pedigrees myself). Can you convince her to visit a rescue centre and see if she bonds with a particular dog? I think for her it will be the link to that dog that will move her rather than trying to get a puppy that somehow matches a random mix.

If you do go for a puppy then 8-9 weeks are the ideal time to bring them home to ensure as long as possible for socialisation and you want a breeder who has done all health screening tests on the parents and has a clear and realistic vision of what they want to achieve with their breeding programme.

sleeplesswonderer · 06/05/2018 12:13

Yes I have sent a link to the rspca to the advert not heard anything as yet but I am sure they are busy.
Yes I can take her to a rescue she might come home with 4 though 🙈.
She knows she won't recreate him I think it's just one of those things, if you have always wanted a labrador I suppose that is what you will get despite anyone trying to talk you out of it.
I think rescues are fabulous just speaking from my own experience though my two didn't come without complications, learnt behaviour and health issues some of which weren't picked up by the rescue. At the end of the day the aim is to get them a loving home as quickly as possible so some things do go unnoticed.
I think what we really need is much more stringent regulation. I don't believe that a dog has to be a pedigree to be a healthy and happy little dog. What I do think we are missing is regulation needing to be vetted and licensed to breed even if it is a one off. They made selling puppies in pet shops illegal years ago so it is doable. I don't think we need less breeders just more of the good ones

People need to know how to identify puppy farms and report them - but what are you reporting? There's nothing illegal about puppy farming as long as they have a council licence. ( and yes, the law needs to change)

Op most breed rescues will also have crosses - so a chihuahua or yorkie rescue may well have a dog to suit your mum.
