To want to know why normal wine gets me pisseder than fizzy wine?

I don’t get it? I’ve had one Friday night (large) glass of normal flat wine and I feel a bit tipsy. However when it have the same sized glass of prosecco I’m not so pissed. Yet it’s the same percentage? Also if I’m ever on a night out, I can easily guzzle a bottle —or two— of fizz , yet a bottle of wine would have me spewing like something from a horror film.

Why? What’s the gravy? Surely the difference is just a Sodastream or whatever? Is it feet? Do they still crush he grapes with feet? Am I allergic to feet?

a large glass of wine is usually twice the size of a glass of prosecco.

PassiveAgressivePenguin · 04/05/2018 22:07

Can I just say, I’m not actually that incoherently pissed, I just have a new phone and big fat fingers.

Actually this is a good question, so watching with interest.

I also have much less impact from fizzy than flat wine and I've no idea why.

PassiveAgressivePenguin · 04/05/2018 22:09

I’m using my own measurements! It’s my wine glass at home.

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2018 22:09

Sorry I should also add on a same volume basis. Fizzy has much less impact than flat.

RJnomore1 · 04/05/2018 22:09

Wine is usually a higher alcohol percentage than prosecco. About 12% to 10% is it not

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2018 22:09

Agree, I'm talking a same volume basis also.

JenBarber · 04/05/2018 22:10

Pisseder is my new favourite word!

Going to get drunk just so I can use it!

Pfftlife · 04/05/2018 22:11

Think it's all the air in the bubbles keeping you upright, where as flat doesn't have added air so you fall over

SomeKnobend · 04/05/2018 22:11

Is there just less actual wine, to make room for the bubbles?!

Mightymucks · 04/05/2018 22:13

Bubbles get you pissed faster.

In your case you probably drink wine faster which is why it has this effect.

PassiveAgressivePenguin · 04/05/2018 22:16

I have a bottle of prosecco in the fridge for tomorrow night for a night out, and bought a bottle of wine (which I don’t usually drink!) to open tonight for a glass to share with DH over the weekend. Both of them are 12%. I don’t usually drink normal wine as I favour fizz over it for the fact it makes me feel less yucky! It’s so odd and I’ve never been able to work it out!

Hahaha I want to get pisseder 😂

firefirejugdypantsonfire · 04/05/2018 22:20

Could be the quality of the wine. My top tip is the better quality wines have bigger indents in the bottle base. So a flat bottomed white wine is low quality. Processco is usually better quality.

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 04/05/2018 22:24

Less alcohol in prosecco.

Bluntness100 · 04/05/2018 22:28

Hmmm. Nope, it's not less alcohol, less volume or differing quality..

But fizzy wine or champagne has a much reduced effect on me than flat wine,,,

Queenoftheblitz · 04/05/2018 22:32

I always thought it was more chemicals in white wine - the cheap stuff that got me drunk quicker. Whereas fizz is more natural.

DryIce · 04/05/2018 22:40

Interesting, I too can drink bubbles all day but would be smashed on flat wine.

Perhaps because you have to sip fizz, for gassy burpy reasons, and can guzzle the sav!

meditrina · 04/05/2018 22:41

Red wines can have a way higher ABV.

You might be OK on your red of 12, that's lowish for red. Expect upwards of 13.5 and 15+ is not unusual.

Prosecco is usually 11

Storm4star · 04/05/2018 22:45

I wish I could get pisseder on one glass of wine of any type! It may also be about the environment/atmosphere. I think a lot of us have times where we can drink equal amounts but on some days be drunker than others.

iVampire · 04/05/2018 22:45

I feel worse on red - I put it down to the congeners

How pissed I feel depends on quite a lot of things, some of which make bodily sense (like whether with food) and others which really don’t (like time of day)

RedTulip86 · 04/05/2018 23:11

I can’t drink bubbles- half a glass and my head is throbbing after being tipsy.Wine on the other hand- couldn’t drink a whole bottle, less tipsy and no sore head. I find white lighter than red, any explanation?

Alabasterangel6 · 04/05/2018 23:16

So for the purposes of science someone needs to take two identical glasses/pints/litres (as you choose!) of dry white wine.

Drink one straight and drink the other having processed the same drink through a soda stream (so it’s an identical drink but fizzed up)?
