10 minutes late for hairdressers...

Loveshinealight332 · 04/05/2018 12:09

I had an appointment booked for 10 and I didn’t arrive till 10.10.
I rang at 10.05 to say I would be there at 10.05.
She had a massive attitude saying well you know you should be here on time etc we are fully booked
Surely 10 mins wouldn’t harm anyone?

People calling when they're already late to tell me they're going to be late is maybe more annoying than people being late in the first place.

Yabu.

Nanny0gg · 04/05/2018 14:54

Not all salons have juniors or receptionists, btw.

WomanEqualsAdultHumanFemale · 04/05/2018 14:56

Surely 10 mins can be made up?

Yeah, probably out of the hairdressers lunch break?? Have some respect.

lhastingsmua · 04/05/2018 14:57

At hair salons, being late definitely has a knock on effect for other customers.

Last week, I was about 15 minutes early for my appointment but my stylist was running late with his current client. He was the most senior colourist/manager of the salon so his colour work couldn’t really be completed by anyone else. They were super nice and tried to alleviate my wait time (getting someone else to wash my hair etc) but in reality my appointment went 30 minutes over and was still incredibly rushed. I felt like he was forced to rush through my colour, I didn’t really get the chance to have a proper consultation and then he had to rush through my blow dry and dry my hair on highest/fastest setting which was uncomfortable. All whilst attending to another 2 other clients colour too. This was a high end salon and a very experienced colourist, and I could tell he was stressed out.

So unfortunately, being ‘just 10 minutes late’ is where it all starts, I can see why the receptionist was annoyed as it will lead then into having a stressful/rushed day through no fault of their own.

And you paid for that level of service Ihastings and feel the blame lies with fellow customers rather than salon mismanagement? Shock

No wonder customer service is so terrible in the UK if people put up with this. Otoh my DH turns up whenever he likes at the barber and either gets seen immediately, reads the paper and takes part in the banter in the queue or decides to come back another day if it is busy. He also pays a fraction of the price. I doubt they would be in business with a male clientele behaving the way the average ladies salon does.

sheldonesque · 04/05/2018 15:21

I'm always amazed that some folk think their time is more important than the time of everyone else.

I always seem to have to wait because someone else has been late.

lhastingsmua · 04/05/2018 15:36

howabout

Actually they gave me a discount, and no I don’t blame the salon. I have been there for years and this was the first time that this had happened, and was the result of him running behind from a late client. I also needed my hair done that specific day, hence booking the appointment at that specific time, so I wasn’t going to leave.

Of course barbers are different from women’s salons. And frankly, you’ll find with high end salons you have to book in advance rather than ‘walk in.’ My salon doesn’t take ‘walk in’ clients, it’s all booked in advance

There's been this exact thread before
*
I thought this too.*

Well, there are over 12 million users now registered to Mumsnet globally. I imagine more than one has been late for a hairdresser appointment and had sarky treatment.

I'm beginning to get really fed up of people saying "I've seen this before ..." This site is MASSIVE. Of course there will be repetitive threads.

Rant over. Wink

DrEustaciaBenson · 04/05/2018 15:52

They take the next client.

If the op' s appointment was at, say, 2.00, the next client was probably booked in for 2.45. She's not likely to be there waiting at 2.10, is she?

Twilight456 · 04/05/2018 15:55

Used to work in a hairdressers and ten minutes would throw the day right off, often 45 minutes of given for a cut and blowdry and thats your consultation and shampooing time gone in that ten minutes. Hairdressers don't get to stop for lunch but to you its 'just ten minutes'. However she should have been more polite on the phone.

KungFuPandaWorks · 04/05/2018 15:56

I'm a hairdresser and something as little as ten minutes has a massive knock back on the rest of the appointments. Yes, she might not have been the most tactful in saying it but she had a point.

You rang actually after your appointment informing her you'd still be another 5 minutes. (I'm guessing you meant to put you rang at 10.05 to say you'd be there at 10.10)

I know stuff happens that is out of our control but always set off that bit earlier incase of stuff happening.

Midthreademergencynamechange · 04/05/2018 16:04

@Rednailsandnaeknickers

You are completely wrong about the number of users on Mumsnet. I'd be surprised if it is many more than 1 million.

Rednailsandnaeknickers · 04/05/2018 16:40

That figure came from Mumsnet Towers.

Smeddum · 04/05/2018 17:00

Well, there are over 12 million users now registered to Mumsnet globally

You misread. According to MNHQ there are 12 million visitors, not users, per month.

ForalltheSaints · 04/05/2018 18:06

Lateness is in most cases avoidable. I just wish doctors appointments were structured such that they were not habitually late.

The only thing wrong with the salon's response was the tone.

Glumglowworm · 04/05/2018 18:27

YABU

it is your fault you were late because you didn’t allow enough time for delays.

It’s also your fault you didn’t even bother to call until you were already late.

Pinkprincess1978 · 05/05/2018 07:59

Yabu! People in the service industry make their money through time. They don't have a tangible product to sell so can't make up lost income but selling two of something to make up for someone not turning up.

That ten minuets is her time that if a few customers were late throughout the day could mean loss of income - perhaps a drop in later the day she can't now fit in for example.

If you are unavoidably late again don't be a douche and apologise profusely and tip her well.

Queenofthestress · 05/05/2018 08:26

In all honesty, you would have been turned away at the salon I go to. You're either on time, early or don't get seen at all,
no if's, and's or buts

AGreatBigPonk · 05/05/2018 08:33

YABU and entitled.

Biologifemini · 05/05/2018 08:36

I was late once and asked them to skip the blow dry and head massage so everyone was happy.

Saz1995 · 05/05/2018 08:36

I’m a hairdresser, if one person is late it does make you late for the rest of the morning. However I wouldn’t have got an attiude and got funny with you .

EleanorHooverbelt · 05/05/2018 08:37

God forbid you raise a Zombie Grin

Panda81 · 05/05/2018 09:01

If you were stuck for 30 minutes but only 10 minutes late then that shows you set off 20 mins early. Which is reasonable assuming hairdresser is local to you.

Obviously not your fault about the traffic, but the salon can't pick up the lost time either. She shouldn't have been rude to you but they shouldn't have to see you either. Probably both a bit unreasonable.

NC650 · 05/05/2018 09:36

YABU, sounds like you didn't apologise for being late when you rang if you think "ten minutes won't harm anyone"...you set her and her next appointment/lunch break back ten mins, I'd be peed off if I was her!
