10 minutes late for hairdressers...

I had an appointment booked for 10 and I didn’t arrive till 10.10.
I rang at 10.05 to say I would be there at 10.05.
She had a massive attitude saying well you know you should be here on time etc we are fully booked
Surely 10 mins wouldn’t harm anyone?

When I got stuck in traffic and was late for a cut and blow, I was offered the choice of make another appointment or just have a dry trim, which I thought was fair enough as she had people booked in after me.

PuppyMonkey · 04/05/2018 12:35

Perhaps they could make the time up by leaving OP’s hair in a right old state. Grin

Ginkypig · 04/05/2018 12:38

Yes the time can be made up probably by not having lunch because all her appointments after you have been late, so she's spent the morning apologising to other clients who are rightfully pissed off with her then missing out on lunch to keep her afternoon appointments on time.

So hopefully in future you'll realise that it's not just ten minutes it's the whole day!

You don't even seem apologetic.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 04/05/2018 12:38

It wouldn't have hurt her to be a lot more polite. However the point she makes is correct

Atthebottomofthesea · 04/05/2018 12:42

I got caught in traffic once, I rang and rang again and again and then canceled when we realised I wouldn't get there.

I could be 10 minutes late, my hair only takes 10 minutes if that to do.

GinSoakedItchyPony · 04/05/2018 12:43

Grin Souffle

adaline · 04/05/2018 12:46

You're ten minutes late, so your appointment starts late and overruns by ten minutes, making the next person's appointment late by default, meaning at the end of the day, she has to work late for no extra pay.

Ten minutes in isolation might not be a huge problem, but if everyone is ten minutes late, her whole day's timetable goes out the window.

Bramble71 · 04/05/2018 12:46

I think you're being very unreasonable, OP. Time can't be made up in a hair salon. Would you want your hair to be rushed? I know I want my stylist to spend the necessary time getting my cut right. We ladies spend a lot of money on our hair and we have the right to expect the stylist's full time, attention and care, not a rush job.

I'd have offered to reschedule once I knew I was going to be that late.

TheStoic · 04/05/2018 12:48

Not sure about where you are, but where I am we have a glut of hairdressers. It seems like every second store is a hairdressers.

They would no more complain about a customer’s lateness than they would fly to the moon. They’re not stupid.

Saying that, I’m never late...

Chattymummyhere · 04/05/2018 12:49

You should of rang before you where late. I will always ring 5-10 minutes before my appointment time if it looks like I will be late. That way they know I’m on my way and if they want to move my appointment they can or like with the vets if someone is in early they can pop them in and I’m happy to wait for them to finish up and me to go in.

Colonelpopcorn · 04/05/2018 12:49

Grrr I hate people that do this. I work on appointment basis and when somebody runs late it’s makes the whole day late. 5 mins makes all the difference when you have a busy day!
It’s rude and disrespectful.

halfwitpicker · 04/05/2018 12:50

I'd just find another hairdresser.

EleanorHooverbelt · 04/05/2018 12:53

There are hairdressers everywhere, it's true, but I think a good hairdresser is hard to find.

yestheyhavethesamedad · 04/05/2018 12:55

the last time I went to the hairsdressers, the person before me was 10 mins late so by the time they had finished seen the finished hair in the mirror decided they wanted slightly more off ,paid ect it meant I wasn't seen until 15mins after my appointment time so had to change what I originally wanted done as meant I would have been late for plans after the hairdressers so yabu.

CoverYourEarsTeam · 04/05/2018 12:58

I can't count the number of times I've sat in a chair while the hairdresser rushed between clients, while I was waiting for my colour, cut, blow dry, whatever, easily wasting 5-15 mins.
I'm happy to do that if the hairdresser is under the pump, why shouldn't he/she give me the same courtesy?
I'm with you OP. Yep, you knew you'd be a few minutes late and made every effort let them know. It's the give and take of a busy schedule.

Poopooweewee · 04/05/2018 12:58

Just leave earlier. If you're going ANYWHERE by car, you should know that you have to leave extra time for traffic.

Why should the person following your hair appointment have their schedule messed up by your lack of organisation. Your lateness has a domino effect, the next person would then be 10 mins late for their next appointment, through no fault of their own.

Lateness is just rude and entitled behaviour.

MrsLaurac · 04/05/2018 12:58

Sorry, I understand her frustration but honestly there is no need to be so rude especially in an accident when it really wasn't your fault. I would find myself questioning whether to find a new hairdresser? Makes me love mine all the more books me right the end of the day tells me not to rush out of work and be there when I get there and she's always waiting with wine!

PorkyPortia · 04/05/2018 12:58

it is if they are booked back to back OP
that's why you make an appointment

Loveshinealight332 · 04/05/2018 13:00

Can’t ring if I’m driving

OP posts:
Loveshinealight332 · 04/05/2018 13:01

I did leave earlier but didn’t see myself sat on slip road for 30 mins to get on the motorway !!

Smeddum · 04/05/2018 13:02

Why are your excuses to be accepted but their reasons (being busy and not having the time to juggle because other people are late) are unreasonable?

It affects people’s jobs when someone is late.

TheStoic · 04/05/2018 13:02

It’s a hair cut, not open heart surgery. Do your best to be on time, but if they can’t cope with lateness, they’re in the wrong job.

corcaithecat · 04/05/2018 13:06

How do they 'make up the time'? Cut only one half of the haircut? Busy hairdressers struggle to take any kind of break to grab food and a drink so do it whilst clients are processing.
What were you having done?
If it was a cut/blow dry, hairdressers generally allocate 45 mins or less particularly if you're sandwiched between a colour appointment so with 10 minutes less time, they wouldn't be able to complete your service.
Sorry, but YABU.

ikeepaforkinmypurse · 04/05/2018 13:06

but if they can’t cope with lateness, they’re in the wrong job.

what's your suggestion then?
Lose clients because a consistently late hairdresser will not keep them.
Schedule longer appointments and charge a lot more to cover the fact they are seeing fewer people?

The OP was wrong, and is now making things up. She couldn't call whilst driving (fair enough), but was now sat on a slip road for 30 minutes.

TheStoic · 04/05/2018 13:07

what's your suggestion then?

Use their iniative. They take the next client. If you’re late, you lose your spot and you wait. It’s not complicated.
