I hate beer so always drink white wine with curry. Pinot or Sauvignon.

duckingfisaster · 03/05/2018 20:36

Try a Pinot Grigio - universally appealing. Riesling nice though. Have fun!

QueenOfMyWorld · 03/05/2018 20:37

I love sauvignon blanc does the dryness work well with spice?

Very unlikely to be available in your local Indian restaurant but highly recommend a Gruner Veltliner

DairyisClosed · 03/05/2018 20:39

Since when do people drink beer with curry? It depends on the curry. For instance a tomatoes based curry would be better with red while coconut milk based would be better with white. As a general rule of thumb I would go for red wine if you are eating Indian and white for Thai.

wfrances · 03/05/2018 20:39

sauvignon blanc

WineAndTiramisu · 03/05/2018 20:41

Pinot noir for red, never tried white with curry so no advice there!

Loonoon · 03/05/2018 20:41

Drink what you enjoy. I know the foodie rule is to avoid wine with curry but if that’s what you prefer go for it. I doubt your local curry house will be serving fine vintages that will be ruined by being drunk with spicy food.

QueenOfMyWorld · 03/05/2018 20:42

Thanks everyone. Its a bring your own alcohol restaurant so doing my homework before I buy.Everyone I know drinks beer with curry

I like a rose with curry.

starzig · 03/05/2018 20:53

I drink red and white but would go for white with a curry. More refreshing. You won't get a whole lot of choice in an Indian restaurant so might have to settle for a sauvignon blanc

starzig · 03/05/2018 20:55

Sorry just seen bring your own. Vinho verde or a white rioja woild be nice.

HundredMilesAnHour · 03/05/2018 20:58

Gewurtztraminer is the classic pairing of a white wine that goes well with spicy food.

And in case you don't believe me:

I hate beer. I always drink wine with curry.

QueenOfMyWorld · 03/05/2018 20:59

Hundred is that a sweet wine?

OP posts:
HundredMilesAnHour · 03/05/2018 21:08

QueenOfMyWorld it can be anything from sweet to dry depending on the winemaker. I prefer dry myself. It's known for being quite aromatic (hence it works so well with curry). One of the wine writers at Decanter once wrote that it "tastes and smells like a tart's boudoir". Wink

Ghostlyfeet · 03/05/2018 21:13

I normally drink beer with curry as I generally find the wine choices in curry houses are a bit rubbish but I recently had rose... it went really well!

MarmiteTermite · 03/05/2018 21:16

I was also going to say guwutztraminer!

goose1964 · 03/05/2018 21:20

Gewürztraminer is dry but always reminds me of elderflower wine

QueenOfMyWorld · 04/05/2018 06:21

Hundred Tarts boudoir? 😁
