To think it's bizarre that leisure centres close on bank holidays

Enquired at the leisure centre this morning about opening times on bank holiday Monday, expecting that they might put on some different sessions as kids are off school etc. Instead they're closed completely.

AIBU to find it a bit bizarre that somewhere that provides leisure activities closes on a bank holiday Monday?

Mine isn't

Maybe it’s nice that the staff get time with their families too?

Council run ones? Why wouldn't they be? The staff there have families too you know.
Private ones are usuallys open.

Mine is council run and is OPEN. I quite often leave the kids still in bed during their day off and go and do a class.

I think it's actually a good thing that they're closed.

Not everything revolves around people who a lucky enough to have jobs that are closed on bank holidays.

It's bizzare to me because peak times for leisure activities are weekends and holidays.

I used to work as a lifequard and when we first started we were told not to expect any weekends or holidays off as this was when it was busiest which made sense to me. I thought this was standard for things like restuarants, cinemas, hotels etc. and I put leisure centres into the same category.

If it's a local authority one it's like to be a cost saving exercise.

I work for a LA and used to be expected to work bank holidays. We got time and a half pay + our hours back. Our council has stopped as many bank holiday services as sthey can to save money including the leisure centre.

Our country parks are still opened and staffed though.
