I am fed up with being made to feel like I am a real cow because I buy clothes from Boden, it isn't as if I am stealing the food from a child is it????????

it's not bad but I can't find much that fits well and then you always bump into people wearing the same thing ... at my dd's nativity the photographer and nursery owner had matching boden coats, my dp couldn't keep quiet about it he snorted and and commented on the consumer clones .. it was quite a public meeting of boden coats at the altar

rebelmum1 · 16/05/2008 13:16

you can get all the clothes less than half price on ebay unworn and with tags too which makes it a bit of a sad mugs game to me

climbanymountain · 16/05/2008 13:29

Boden's gone downhill. Used to really like it but now it's so samey and dull. Do still love mini boden though.

Tortington · 16/05/2008 13:33

Vachfolle" don't see how 'Boden' can be aimed at yummy mummies (i.e young looking, slim, glamorous, you couldn't tell they'd had kids)as they seem to want to dress you as middle aged provincial tories ."

indeed i agree.

the people may not all be horrible - its a generalisation the same as burberry wearers are generally pidgeon holed

a rational anwer would be that i judge a person on how they treat me regardless of what they are wearing.

However this is mumsnet with MC bodenites abound - its kinda askin' fer it

VacheFolle · 16/05/2008 13:45

Yes Custardo, I agree...You can't judge people on what they wear, I just had issue with the 'yummy mummy ' business as it seems rather 'un-yummy' IMO. Although 'Yummy Mummy' as a description has become a bit annoying now and over-used me-thinks

sitdownpleasegeorge · 16/05/2008 13:48

Boden clad ladies annoy me in as much as I'd like to be able to fit my industrial sized norks into boden ladies wear tops and I'd like enough free-time to get sufficient wear out of their casual clothes.

Boden childrens clothes are silly priced but Johnnie knows by now that I only shop in his end of season sales. The clothes then get worn by 2 boys and it looks as if I'll be able to sell them on ebay for half what I paid for them or pass them on in fairly good condition because they are good quality.

They are lovely boys clothes, very little grungy coloured stuff or vulgar slogans or skulls on t-shirts.

Tortington · 16/05/2008 13:50

i hate yummy mummies

all thin and toned

ProfYaffle · 16/05/2008 13:52

Cupcakes on a Boden thread - there's a surprise!

I've been eager to return to the Suffolk Heritage Coast since buying my Boden coat to see if I'm accepted this time.

They don't need a label riven. All Bodenistas can recognise a Boden item at 200 yds. Same with mini boden. Everywhere I go (the Cotswolds so what can you expect?) I spot things my boys have got in their cupboard.

shouldbeworking · 16/05/2008 18:03

I'm with riven ...I just had a quick look at Boden website and the day when I would buy a plain t-shirt for £19 when I can buy one that looks just the same from high street for a fiver will never arrive. I've had some from Matalan for about 4 years and they look just as good as they did when I bought them and cost me £3 each. Unless the label is on the outside how would you possibly know?

Also it all looks a bit frumpy to me ...the kids clothes are cute but nothing much different than I've seen in Next and other high street chains and these are a fraction of the price.

shouldbeworking · 16/05/2008 18:17

I'm missing those female genes too ..I've recently looked in the mirror and realised I haven't brushed my hair today..I've been to do the weekly shop too

scottishmummy · 16/05/2008 18:37

this thread is risible lots of withdrawn deleted messages accusations of being white middle class affluent

christ if you all bellyache about a clothes shop can not imagine what non-clothes related serious matters get you in a fankle

and i still have never heard of boden

climbanymountain · 16/05/2008 18:43

Have to disagree. The kids clothes are miles nicer than Next. Much better quality after a million washes. Agree you can't tell a T shirt apart but the skirts, tops and coats scream Boden. I have to fess up that I'm wearing a Boden skirt now that's three seasons old and still good as new! BTW where is Matalan, I've never seen one?

SilentTerror · 16/05/2008 22:18

Boden=
Middle Class
Affluent(got to be to afford it)
3+ children(preferably 4)
Dorset Cereals
Waitrose
Holiday in Suffolk,Norfolk, cornwall. Brittany/tuscany if abroad.
Children do piano,ballet,rugby.
Bedlinen from White Company/John Lewis.
Listen to Radio Four news, read Telegraph.
Would like to marry David Cameron.

climbanymountain · 16/05/2008 22:26

All of the above except I hate the Telegraph and can't stand that slimy Cameron.

climbanymountain · 16/05/2008 22:27

Oh and I've got two not three or God forbid four (missed that rather pertinent point!!)

northernrefugee39 · 17/05/2008 08:20

Love this thread...

SilentTerror- spot on!
I'm sure some people wear it to make a satement about the kind of person they are.
You can spot Boden patterned stuff a mile off..

Fun spot, sassy, Johnny, flippy, swishy, funky, slinky- those words get me, and the descriptions of the stuff.
And when you ring up( yep have bought children's pj's there) the answerphone has Johnny on it- eugh!

The patterns are very LOUD and NOTICEABLE like some of the people who wear them.

If i could aspire to any catalogue "look" it would be the understated stuff from Toast.
I got a top on ebay by them and it's gorgeous.

Crunchie · 17/05/2008 09:02

missed this thread 1st time around!!!

if you get here you are damn well gonna to spot another at 200 yrds!!!

Actually I'll tell you a secret, my kids wear these

Now yes they are HUGELY expensive but they have had them since they were 3 and 5 (now 7 and 9) and are still wearing teh same ones They wear them camping and beaching all summer and as a nightie for half teh winter !! TBH I need to get new ones as they are actually wearing out

SilentTerror · 17/05/2008 10:43

Trouble is,that list is almost a description of myself!!(will leave you all to guess which points do not apply)
And I devour the Boden catalogue

Cammelia · 17/05/2008 10:54

Funny you should mention Dave Cameron, Johnny Boden is also Old Etonian

northernrefugee39 · 17/05/2008 13:54

Silent, obviously you want to marry David Cameron and rea the Telegraph, why not just fess up?

SilentTerror · 18/05/2008 10:05

Northern,you are spot on!!
